Is that album and single sales together? Also, if anyone knows how many records it takes for albums to go gold, platinum, etc can you post it?

If I'm not mistaken the best-selling solo artist in the US is Garth Brooks, believe it or not. You can always check riaa.com for more complete info on gold, platinum, multi-platinum and diamond certifications.

Before Soundscan, the only numbers available were those from the record companies themselves. Soundscan only exists in the USA, so worldwide sales charts are almost a guess. Too bad their Platinum and Multi-Platinum certifications are all messed up, I'm sure they'd have several certs. And their worldwide sales are aprox. 85 million records. Not too bad, huh? Long live KISS.
