Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted July 18, 2003 I heard the other day that Whitney Houston has sold over 170 million records and other artist like Marriah Carey and Bon Jovi have sold over 100 million. Is that album and single sales together? Also, if anyone knows how many records it takes for albums to go gold, platinum, etc can you post it?

Guest pochorenella Report post Posted July 21, 2003 Those figures are likely worldwide sales. If I'm not mistaken the best-selling solo artist in the US is Garth Brooks, believe it or not. You can always check riaa.com for more complete info on gold, platinum, multi-platinum and diamond certifications.

Guest Doyo Report post Posted July 22, 2003 It is hard to know the accuracy of any of these lists. Before Soundscan, the only numbers available were those from the record companies themselves. Soundscan only exists in the USA, so worldwide sales charts are almost a guess. Anyway, here are some lists: RIAA most albums sold in USA in millions as of 2003 1- BEATLES, THE 164.5 2- BROOKS, GARTH 105.0 3- LED ZEPPELIN 105.0 4- PRESLEY, ELVIS 103.0 5- EAGLES 86.0 6- JOEL, BILLY 77.5 7- PINK FLOYD 73.5 8- STREISAND, BARBRA 70.0 9- JOHN, ELTON 67.5 10- AEROSMITH 63.5 11- ROLLING STONES, THE 63.5 12- AC/DC 63.0 13- MADONNA 59.0 14- SPRINGSTEEN, BRUCE 58.5 15- JACKSON, MICHAEL 58.0 16- CAREY, MARIAH 57.0 17- HOUSTON, WHITNEY 54.0 18- METALLICA 54.0 19- STRAIT, GEORGE 52.5 20- VAN HALEN 50.5 scaruffi.com Worldwide album sales as of 1999 1- Pink Floyd (180 million) 2- Celine Dion (155 million) 3- Beatles (150 million) 4- Led Zeppelin (125 million) 5- Mariah Carey (105 million) 6- Elvis Presley (100 million) 7- Michael Jackson (100 million) 8- Elton John (100 million)

Guest pochorenella Report post Posted July 22, 2003 Just so you guys know, Kiss have the most Gold records out of every American band, according to the RIAA. Too bad their Platinum and Multi-Platinum certifications are all messed up, I'm sure they'd have several certs. And their worldwide sales are aprox. 85 million records. Not too bad, huh? Long live KISS.
