Guest BlackLight Report post Posted March 31, 2002 I linked to a porn site one night, and it triggered an auto-download of a bunch of crap onto my PC. It added a bunch of new bookmarks to my favorites list (I use IE), and a bunch of shortcuts to my desktop. That stuff's easy enough to delete, but it also managed to hook up with my browser's Search Feature, so whenever I try to do a Search on IE, I get shuttled to this porn site, and everything I deleted shows up on my computer again. Any ideas about how to handle this? I'm going to try Ad-Aware, this spyware solution program I found on C-Net, but barring that, does anyone have any suggestions about how to fix the Search feature on Internet Explorer? Guest areacode212 Report post Posted March 31, 2002 Hm, I never use IE's search feature, unless I'm using it to search for stuff in my IE history. If you do a lot of searches, I suggest downloading the Google Toolbar, which is REALLY useful. That way, you can ignore whatever the porn site did to IE's built-in search file, and still do good searches.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted March 31, 2002 IE has a search feature? <<looks up>> Oh, I guess it does. Go with Google.
Guest BlackLight Report post Posted March 31, 2002 Yeah, I can find some other way to do searches, but I'm worried about if someone is using my PC and tries to do a Search IE, and all this crap pops up. I need to eliminate it somehow.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted March 31, 2002 There is an option to restore IE's default home page and search settings. It's under Tools->Internet Options->Programs. I use IE 6, but I'm pretty sure I remember the option in the 5.X series, as well.
