Guest GameCop Report post Posted July 18, 2003 This is shocking. I think it's fair to say that Kobe Bryant's career is ruined regardless of the trial's outcome. Discuss.

Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Ruined like all the other's who have been arrested and continue to arrested and continue to sign huge contracts? If you got skills, you will continue to get paid regardless. His image will definately be tarnished, but that is all. And to some $$$ is much more important. Guest GameCop Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Kobe Bryant has been accused of forced sexual penetration; in other words, he's been accused of RAPE. I apologize for not mentioning this earlier.
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Well no matter what this will not be resolved by the time the NBA season starts and it will be interesting to see how the NBA handles this. I'm already dreading the wall-to-wall endless coverage by ESPN of this.

Guest ErekT2k Report post Posted July 18, 2003 From NBCSports.com THE 24-YEAR-OLD BRYANT faces four years to life in prison if convicted on the single felony count, Hurlbert told reporters during a news conference. The Vail Daily News said Hurlbert talked to the alleged victim’s family Thursday night and told them of his decision then. Georgetown attorney Rob Wheeler, a former prosecutor with the District Attorney’s Office, told the Vail Daily Thursday night that he had been retained by the alleged victim’s family. He made his first appearance at Thursday’s hearing at which the Vail Daily argued for dispatch records to the alleged victim’s house. Bryant’s attorney, Pamela Mackey, has scheduled a news conference at 9 p.m. EDT at Staples Center in Los Angeles. It was not known whether Bryant will attend. Bryant, a three-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, surrendered to authorities July 4 on allegations he attacked a 19-year-old woman at the exclusive mountain resort Lodge & Spa at Cordillera in nearby Edwards on June 30. Sheriff Joe Hoy, elected in November, decided there was enough evidence to arrest Bryant on July 4, even though Hurlbert hadn’t made a decision then. Hurlbert, a former assistant district attorney promoted by the governor in December, has been reviewing the results of tests from the state crime laboratory. Both Bryant and his female accuser underwent unspecified medical tests. The five-time All-Star was in Colorado for knee surgery at a Vail clinic. In his only public comments on the case, Bryant told the Los Angeles Times he “would never do something like that.” Bryant attended the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday, but he avoided the media in his first public appearance since his arrest. He sat in the audience smiling and laughing with his wife. Kobe faces the possibility of life in prison, but I agree, no matter what the outcome, Kobe's image is ruined. Guest GameCop Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Kobe Bryant, according to MSNBC, has admitted that he DID cheat on his wife.
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Well one thing to remember his clean cut image is hurt just by the simple of fact of that he did cheat on his wife. Not that its uncommon and almost expected in pro sports but Kobe is held to a higher standard. I absolutely hate Kobe Bryant but I can't really take any joy in this. Bored 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Kobe Bryant, according to MSNBC, has admitted that he DID cheat on his wife. Yes there is a statement out by his wife saying that he is guilty of adultry. Oh and a statement out just now from Kobe saying he did cheat on his wife.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted July 18, 2003 I absolutely hate Kobe Bryant but I can't really take any joy in this. If he didn't cheat on his wife, then he probably wouldn't be in this situation.
Guest GameCop Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Kobe's wife, Vanessa Bryant, also issued a statement which also acknowledges the adultery, but stresses that her husband didn't assault the 19-year-old. She also mentions that she intends to stand behind her husband no matter what...
Guest Vyce Report post Posted July 18, 2003 I'm really going to enjoy watching people (not necessarily people here on this board - people in the media, fans, etc.) defend someone who could quite possibly be a rapist. Innocent until proven guilty, I know, but there's something about him sitting there grinning at the ESPYs that pisses me off.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted July 18, 2003 here's what I got from espn... EAGLE, Colo. -- Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant has been charged with one count of felony sexual assault, Eagle County prosecutor Mark Hurlbert announced today after two weeks of deliberation. Bryant will face four years to life in prison, if convicted. Bryant's Denver-based attorney, Pamela Mackey, has scheduled a news conference at 9 p.m. ET time tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, but there is no word whether Bryant will be there. Bryant, 24, turned himself in to authorities July 4 and was released on $25,000 bond. The woman claims he attacked her at the Lodge & Spa at Cordillera in nearby Edwards on June 30. His attorney has said the five-time NBA All-Star is innocent and was in Colorado for knee surgery at a Vail clinic. In a brief interview with the Los Angeles Times last week, Bryant said he "would never do something like that.'' Bryant attended the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, but avoided the media in his first public appearance since his arrest. He sat in the audience smiling and laughing with his wife, Vanessa. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Innocent until proven guilty, I know, but there's something about him sitting there grinning at the ESPYs that pisses me off. Of course you have to defend him until he's proven guilty. Saying shit like that only fuels the fire to people who will defend the guy no matter what even if he is proven guilty. Just see O.J. and Mike Tyson. Yeah okay O.J. didn't get convicted but we all know that story.
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2003 will this become oj 2003? i think it will Errr its not quite murder but I'm dreading this turning into another white people all think he's guilty and black people all think he's innocent thing. Let's hope Cochran doesn't get involved.

Guest cartman Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Ya know, what's with these women who "stick by their man" after finding out that "Their Man" has cheated on them, and now has possibly raped another woman? I don't get it. Your husband is an unfaithful piece of garbage, and obviously doesn't love you enough to JUST be with you. Why stay?
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2003 But then again, why the fuck would you Cheat on your fine ass wife? I mean, were you mad at those stupid ass sports radio staion's saying you don't have street cred? Well the old saying, well not be that old, is that no matter how hot a woman you see there is a guy out there who is tired of fucking her. That holds especially true to famous guys who can have any woman they want. Let's be honest Kobe was stupid to get married so young.

Guest GameCop Report post Posted July 18, 2003 This is really a shame. Kobe was on his way to becoming, arguably, one of the best players of all time. By cheating on his wife, he has profaned his image in the eyes of the public and NBA personnel. However, nobody is at fault except Kobe Bryant. How can a man who recently married and just had a child, cheat on his wife? That is despicable. Kobe is not the model citizen we've all been led to believe, that's for sure. Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Take this for what it's worth. what is it, I get an error or something.. Kobe is gettin some street cred! His new shoes should be flying off the shelves. www.freekobe.com
Guest GameCop Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Street cred my ass. Rape doesn't fall into the category of street cred. I wouldn't be surprised if Nike, Spalding and Sprite drop him. Rape is a very serious issue. How can a man accused of rape be marketed to the younger demographic of America?
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted July 18, 2003 "I am innocent of the charges filed today,” Bryant said in a statement released by his attorney. “I did not assault the woman who is accusing me. “I made the mistake of adultery. I have to answer to my wife and my God for my actions that night and I pray that both will forgive me. “Nothing that happened June 30 was against the will of the woman who now falsely accuses me.” __ I think his wife is waiting to divorce him after he signs a lucrative deal next season, unless he is serving time. If Kobe hired Johnny Cochran, is that a sign of his guilt?
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Who exactly are the witnesses? Was someone in the room, or did people see Bryant and the girl enter the hotel room together?
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Who exactly are the witnesses? Was someone in the room, or did people see Bryant and the girl enter the hotel room together? There was some blurb about hearing loud noises coming from the room which could mean many things of course. Oh and no need for a witness when it comes to seeing them go into the room together because Kobe already admitted to having sex with her.
Guest GameCop Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Yeah, when I heard the blurb about "loud noises" I was pretty sure it indicated sexual relations between Kobe and the accuser. I wouldn't be surprised if this is settled "out of court," either. I'm sure the accuser will drop the charge if Kobe gives her 15-20 million dollars.
