I want to get into Motorhead. Are they any good? What songs/albums should I start with?

Lemmy's voice DOES take some getting used to, I'll admit. But once you do...you realize the awesomeness of the band.

ALBUMS

Start with a live album, or a greatest hits. I'd say go for No Sleep Till Hammersmith '82, a live album. Then go for All The Aces, a "best of" compilation. Both albums pretty much have the essential Motörhead songs to know.

As for studio albums, get Hammered (since it's their newest, and one of their worse, so it helps you appreciate their older/better work), Sacrifice, and the legendary Ace Of Spades.

SINGLES

"Ace Of Spades," "We Are The Road Crew," "Brave New World" (AWESOME lyrics), "Orgasmatron" (my personal favorite, although try to find the version WITHOUT the drum intro), "Metropolis," "Killed By Death," "Sacrifice," and "The Game" (HHH's theme, so you already know it).

Killed By Death is one of the greatest things ever.

My other Motorhead favorites: "Steal Your Face", "Jailbait", and their cover of "Louie Louie."

I can't believe I forgot the cover of "Louie, Louie"!

Also, for familiarity issues, check out their cover of "Enter Sandman."

I'm a wishy-washy Motorhead listener...

Just curious to ask the MH marks here...

Where does The Game Stand with the rest? and Was there any reaction/uproar for them to a do theme song for HHH?

Not really. Because at the time the HHHate hadn't really started.

I like the songs Overkill and Stone Dead Forever.

Them doing HHH's theme really didn't cause any hate to the band...HHH even contributed a spoken part on their last album.

My friend who's a serious metal listener actually though that it was kind of good that Motorhead played at WM XVII...he pointed out that that was propably the largest stateside audiences that they played to.

It is, it is. Well, since the early 80's at least, when REAL metal was still popular Stateside, anyways.

Excuse me, it's "Motörhead" ;)

Anyway, "No Remorse" is a great introduction to the band, containing 22 of their best songs, including some live renditions.

Get "Ace of Spades," "Overkill," "No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith (live)," and "1916."

Yes, Motörhead rules.

Edit: Why does my winking smiley face look like a confused smiley face?

The two best-of compilations are good places to start, and of course, the classic songs already mentioned rule the school. Of their more recent album work, I'm a fan of "1916," "March or Die," and "Bastards." After that was "Snake Bite Love," which is adequate but nothing special, and I haven't yet heard their newest.

Their newest one was pretty good, not groundbreaking, but typical Motörhead.
