Crispin Glover on Letterman

I love watching Dave having to deal with messed up situations, you can just watch his brain start shutting down and go 'this is fucked up, I'm not dealing with it.' He'll do everything but address the problem at hand. The way Glover was acting, I'm guessing he was hopped up on herion.

I love how he looks over to Paul and says something to the extent of "Paul, you ever see anyone bomb this bad before?"

And then when Paul asks, "Him or you?", it seems almost like Dave covered up and was like, "No, me."

Priceless. Assuming that's the actual thought process.

That was great.

Dave's expression when Glover challenges him to an arm wrestling contest is priceless.

No, dude, he was totally wigged out. It's pretty easy to tell. Look at his eyes and his body language, he was obviously on something and I'm still sticking by heroin.

Funny -- I lived his lopsided haircut.

What was it that some chicks yelled out from the audience? I couldn't make it out...

NICE SHOES!

Crispin was wearing a wig. He is a naturally oddball person, so it wouldn't be beyond him to do something like that as a joke. He appeared on Letterman a few weeks later and apologised for his behavior, if for nothing more than to save his career (everybody assumed he was on drugs).

I've heard on several occasions that, as an actor, Crispin Glover gets a kick out of making people uncomfortable in an Andy Kaufman sort of way, so this very well could have been an act...but...yeah. That man be fucked up.

Apparently the things in the case were models of rotted eyeballs, or something along those lines. Do a Google search for "crispin glover letterman" and you'll find more about this than you ever needed to know.

"In 1995, Glover began shooting his directorial debut, What Is It? (2000), a surreal film populated entirely by actors with Down's Syndrome." (from filmmonthly.com)

this scares me.

If you're a fan of off-the-wall genius/lunatic antics, check out his 1989 album. I used to play track #4 "Auto-Manipulator" on my college radio show all the time. Great stuff.

I too agree with the comparisons to Andy Kaufmann. Definitely left-of-center comedy genius.

Wow.. thanks, I always wanted to see this. This was great.

I love Letterman finally throwing in the towel after Glover nearly kicks his head off "I"m gonna go check on the Top Ten"

If he were on heroin, he probably wouldn't have been able to get off the green room floor. If he was on drugs, it was probably a psychadellic, or some sort of speed. Either way, like it's already been said, Glover is a nut a la Kaufman. He was obviously doing it all on purpose.
