Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted July 19, 2003 WHAT?!?! *thinks of the GP w/out Quadros* NO NO NO NO NO NO! This can't be fuckin happenining!
Guest Jesse Report post Posted July 19, 2003 I know I'm in the minority, but I couldn't stand Quadros' announcing. He damn near ruined quite a few Pride shows for me. I actually have most of the old Prides in Japanese just so I don't have to listen to him.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted July 19, 2003 Quadros is a dick, who used to talk crap. Rutten was the star of the team.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted July 19, 2003 I think Quadros was overrated too.. but.. FIRED?! Where did that come from??

Guest Jimmy Saint Report post Posted July 19, 2003 Rutten was always the main guy if they had lost him it would worse but I liked the commentry team. Anyone know the reason why he was sacked yet ? I have Pride 24 with original Jap commentery and you can actually hear Quadros in the background shouting stuff over the Japanese commentators half the time. Guest ManKinnd Report post Posted July 20, 2003 Yea, Quadros is an idiot. Glad to see him go.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 20, 2003 You Quadros haters need to expand here. I was just watchin Pride 25 and his commentary is top notch.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 21, 2003 What's with the Quadros hate? Quadros knew his shit and knew quite a bit about MMA and what was going on. He blows away any of UFC's announcers IMO. This is devastating to me because as a team, he and Rutten 0wned. They 0wned your face and this is going to hurt Pride more than help if you ask me.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted July 21, 2003 He does blow away UFC"s guys, I agree there. They better have somebody very good signed up to justify this move. Breaking up the Quadros/Rutten team which clearly had chemistry.. I don't know, gotta be something else going on here.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 21, 2003 I have the Observer issue where it was reported. It said something about new management or higher ups wanting someone else instead of Quadros or something. I'll see if I can post more about it tommorrow, I dont' have the issue with me here at work. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Here's a recent interview with The Fighter Professor.... http://www.man-magazine.com/MAN2.1/?showne...s=215&limit=521 Let me pop the BIG Q...WHY? I honestly don't know. I wasn't given a "reason" when I got 'the call'. It isn't because of job performance because anyone with half a brain knows I am the best, maybe in the whole world. It wasn't because I was some newcomer who kissed a little ass and backstabbed to get into my position. I've been around since when UFC's headquarters were in Torrance, before there even was a Pride event. I've been the editor of 2 different magazines, I am known and respected throughout the whole freaking professional fight world! It wasn't because I didn't get along with Bas. We are like brothers. I've got his back and he's got mine. If anything I should have gotten a promotion within the company because I have done so much to help it in the 3 years I worked for it. But that's not exactly what I got...LOL!!! Which finally brings us to the cute little subject of politics. The previous producer Michael Braverman left before the last show, Pride 26, Bad To The Bone. I did that one show with the new producer, Jerry Millen and then I was told several weeks after I returned to the US that they were "going to try a different commentator". Hmm... Quite honestly, I was relieved when I got that call. There was so much infighting going on and now it was finally over. I really don't think they realized what a marketable tool they had with me. But all that is moot now. I'm actually much calmer now that it has happened. It will prove to be a blessing in disguise for me. Do they realize at PRIDE what influence you have? Apparently not. Did you see this coming or was it a surprise for you as well? I knew certain people in the organization were constantly trying to block me. It wasn't too nice. But I just smiled and did my job to the best of my ability. I thought each show would be my last one, for the last year and a half. Frightening, huh? I am so relieved this feeling has come to an end. I am now a free agent and I look to work with another dynamic fight organization like K-1 or UFC. I am open to talks. Did UFC contacted you allready? Not yet, but I welcome discussions from them. I think I could REALLY help the show in more ways than just being part of their broadcast team. I'm a bit of a strategist (smiles). What does Bas (Rutten) say about this? He is VERY unhappy about this. Besides being friends we really enjoyed working together. And I feel this made the broadcast better than normal. People can feel the back and forth banter and jokes and mutual creativity. We have phenomenal chemistry. Plus he and I have the same SICK sense of humor. When we are together it's pretty damn funny. He is an awesome individual and one of my idols. I won't miss the politics but I will miss Bas a lot. And of course the fights. Pride has some GREAT fights. Are you playing a roll in this new action movie with Bas as well? Not in the one he just finished in Florida. I will be working with him on others though. This definitely isn't the last time you will see the dream team of El Gupo and The Fight Professor working together. It's only the beginning... You also quit your magazine, how does the future looks like? The magazine was a pain in the ass. More politics. I didn't get along with the publisher, who got fired a few months after I exited. Funny, huh? If he would have gotten axed WHILE I was there who knows WHAT would have happened of how high I would have gone with the magazine. I wasn't trying to compete with other martial arts magazines. I was trying to complete with GQ or Maxim or Time. Plus I am more of a 'leader' rather than a 'follower', which is what it seemd like they wanted. The thory obviously is: it's much easier to keep control if things stay small. Hell, just look at mixed martial arts... (hee hee) But realisically, I am not in L.A. to be a journalist, even though I have established myself as one of the most influential ones in the small fishbowl known as 'the martial arts'. I am here on Earth to be involved in making movies, starring in TV dramas, hosting TV shows, commentating on big fight shows and chasing hot looking women (until I get married again, then I'll be a good boy!). Recently I have been cast in a feature film called "The Last Run". It's a comedy and I play a drug dealer whose ex-girlfriend is a stripper. I'm kind of a violent guy in the movie. After that I will be working doing all the fight choreography for a martial arts fight film. I'll be in it as well. That one is going to rock! I am waiting for a few other REALLY BIG projects to come through. I have been blessed so far to have worked with some very big name people: Jet Li, Chuck Norris, DMX, Cuba Gooding Jr) and on some big movies (Cradle 2 The Grave, Exit Wounds). I am happy with the way things are going right now... Kevin Chin asks: So you have time to come over to host 2H2H in The Netherlands? Hell YES! I LOVE Holland and I LOVE 2H2H. I'm there! I want Bas Rutten there too! What about the rumour i heard; do you have any ambitions to become a drummer again? I am playing in a band now. We just got together and play old hard rock like Aerosmith and Ted Nugent. The singer is a working actor and the guitar player is an Academt Award nominated director. We ROCK! I used to be one of the world's greatest rock drummers. Ask Bas. He's seen me play live. http://www.petitiononline.com/quadros/petition.html ...is a very nice and warm action, taken by a fan. Do you have any comment? I recieved this petition via e-mail yesterday. Wow. I was floored. It is a VERY nice and genuine gesture. I would like to take this time to thank Andreas Ohrfeldt, the guy who wrote the petition, and all the fans who have supported me. Thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart! And I can assure everyone, the BEST is yet to come!
Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Small correction from the new Observer: "A correction, Jerry Millen is replacing Michael Braveman as producer of the show. Millen chose a guy named Damon, who is a sportscaster from Detroit to be the new lead announcer in place of Steven Quadros". This is disappointing news. I've only seen one Pride show (the last one) but I greatly enjoyed Steve's announcing. He did a good job of explaining things so even a new viewer wasn't lost, and had that JR vibe where you could tell he was legitemately into the fights. I wonder why they would fire him. I guess Kevin Dunn didn't think he was attractive enough...
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Jerry is a goddamn putz! After Smackdown on Thursdays my UPN 10 pm news would give about 10 minutes of time for a wrap up and interviews and whatnot. Steve Lombardi was in studio just about every week...Jerry sucks though, very annoying.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 31, 2003 I signed the petition, but I know it will mean nothing in the end. Quadros not being there will take some of the luster off of the greatest MMA match lineup on paper. It's a shame that politics are going to dictate the quality of the product. Pride might as well be no better than WWE in regards to this situation.
