News from the law radio show

I just got done listening to the live audio wrestling audio show and they had a couple of interesting news items. They say the plan for Eddy Guerrero is to go to Raw and feud with RVD over the IC title and for Heat to become a cruiserweight tv show where the cruiserweights would get to showcase their skills. The RVD vs Eddy Guerrero feud is going to be awesome if they let it last for a couple of months or more. I also like the idea of Heat becoming a cruiserweight show. Smackdown is too stacked with main eventers for the cruisers to get a chance, so they will have a better chance to shine on Heat with their own storylines. The LAW guys are usually right when it comes to news.

Are the Cruiserweight's going to be their own "Branch Extension"?  Otherwise whose side are they on?  It would be cool if Dean Malenko asked the board of directors for Heat and they allow him to control it.  That would mix up the storylines a little bit.

I hope not. I don't get heat.

Although MTV are meant to be getting it. In which case

I hope so.

That would be so sweet. I would have a reason to watch MTV. I do watch Tough Enough though, so it would give me another reason to watch MTV.

Maybe then people (marks) will realize the talent that the cruiserweights trully do have. Although, I'm sure the ratings will stay the same, and we will still have to sit through the Hogan & Rock replays.

I would love for Dean Malenko to have an on-camera role involving himself in the cruiserweight division.

Who do we have though?

Yoshihiro Taijiri

Christian

Billy Kidman

"The Hurricane" Shane Helms

Rey Mysterio Jr.

Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Hopefully, X-pac, Spike & Crash will all be left out of the division. I really don't want to watch them. I would rather the WWF just sign some more cruiserweights like Little Guido, Christopher Daniels & Juventud Guerrero. Maybe Psycosis too.

I'd love them getting all the time they need on Heat. Another good idea would be for them to build up a main event match if you weeeil and then the main match is on Smackdown. This way they are able to have time to work feuds yet still able to get some time on a main show. This would work because they could quickly recap heat and then start the match and it wouldn't take very much time away from the main guys who we know are more important to Vince.

Well i can't see WWF signing that many more "no name" cruisers since they still have many guys that are ready who haven't seen tv time. I'm sure they will be picking up some "free agent" cruisers when they are ready for more. But even with just the 5 guys(Christian wont be one) the last poster said it would be a strong division. I'd like to see the "hurricane" gimmick toned down but as long as Helms is allowed to pull out his moves i'll be happy. Hopefully they let Chavo be the lead heel.

You don't get MTV? Hmm that's rare for anyone with Cable. Well unless you don't have cable yourself.

JR mentions a lot of Crusiers that are under developmental contracts, they will bring a bunch of them up.

They have tons of left over cruisers from WCW down in the HWA.  And there's some good developemental talent that could work as cruisers in OVW, like Flash.

I like the idea of having Heat dedicated to the cruiserweights with a big cruiserweight match saved for each Smackdown.  With this show being on MTV I think they should present the show and the cruiserweight division as some sort of extreme sport.  This means longer more competative matches for them to get their high spots in, seizure inducing video packages set loud punk, industrial, metal and hip hop and background features.  Possibly do the live band thing like at Wrestlemania to pull in a typical MTV audience.

Pretty much target this show and the cruiserweight division towards the MTV demographic with the top stars being Billy Kidman w/ Torrie Wilson, Tajiri, Rey Mysterio Jr, Hurricane, Juventud Guerrerro, Jamie Knoble, AJ Styles, Shelton Benjamin, Chavo Guerrerro Jr, Scotty Too Hotty, Kaientai, Shannon Moore, etc.

Maybe even let some of the stars onto Raw so both shows can cross promote the Heat show on MTV.  For instance, Rey Mysterio Jr. can wrestle Eddie Guerrerro or RVD on Raw but his real push comes on the Heat show.  If Mysterio wins the cruiserweight championship, the cruiserweight title is defended against other Raw cruisers like X Pac, Spike Dudley and whoever else they may put on that show.  If a Smackdown competitor wins the title, the title is defended against other Smackdown cruisers like Kidman, Tajiri, etc.

So essentially, the cruiserweight division DOES become a brand extension and the division would be better promoted, Heat would be better advertised, if both shows featured their own cruiserweights.  I also like the idea of Dean Malenko convincing both Flair and McMahon to agree to this concept.

Again, some of you will mention that with Smackdown and Raw being from different cities, the WWF would have to fly talent appearing on Raw immediately to the city holding the Smackdown tapings for them to appear on Heat.  Not necessarily.  It's simple, the week that Rey Mysterio Jr. appears on Raw, he's not on Smackdown the following day.  The week he doesn't appear on Raw he's wrestling at the Heat tapings at Smackdown.

You could also consider something like one week's episode of Heat featuring Raw cruiserweight matches (say for instance Mysterio vs. X Pac, Shannon Moore vs. Jeff Hardy, Jamie Knoble vs. Spike Dudley) while next week's Heat features Smackdown cruisers (Kidman vs. Juventud, Tajiri vs. Taka Michinoku, Hurricane vs. AJ Styles).

I do get MTV, the problem is I live in the UK where Heat used to be shown on Channel 4. There has been talk of MTV Europe putting on Heat but nothing is confirmed yet. If they don't and it is the Cruiser show then I'm going to have to import tapes which is a pain in the arse.

Why should a recovering substance abuser such as Eddie Guerrero come in and get pushed into the upper main events with RVD? If Hall doesn't deserve a shot at Austin because he's a recovering alcoholic (WHAT?! Let's crucify this guy!) why should Eddie deserve to come back at all after being taken off TV, put into rehab a AT THE WWF'S expense (Vince cares? What?!) and then fuck up by driving under the influence? Give me a break. If you're going to welcome Eddie back with open arms, you also need to lay off Hall.

My two cents: Eddy's getting brought back to the WWF in order to placate the people in the locker room who have been bitching about the double standards that Scott Hall always institutes where ever he goes. My guess is that by bringing Eddy back, the WWF is saying that they will be giving Eddy (who was fired for the same shit that Scott Hall is now supposedly getting away with) the same ammount of infinite second chances that Scott Hall seems to have...

If Rey on Raw and wins the tilte and only defends agianst Raw guys how will someone on Smackdown win it? If you wanted to know if I like your idea or not, i can't say because I didn't understand it at all. Too confusing the way you talked about it.

LOL.  I realized that too after I typed the whole damn thing Jesuit Pig.  I was just waiting for someone to call me on it before I attempted to make sense of any of it.  I confused myself though because it still hasn't been established how they are going to work the PPV's.  What I was attempting to push was Heat being a cruiserweight only show but Smackdown and Raw having their own cruiserweight rosters.  Doing something along the lines of what they are doing with the heavyweight title and women's title with the cruiserweight champion having the ability to be on both shows to compete against Raw's cruisers and Smackdown's cruisers.  This way, Heat could get a rub on both Raw and Smackdown any given week with space being given on at least one of the show's per week to push angle development for Sunday's Heat.

The more I thought about it though the logistics of this just isn't there though with Heat being taped pre Smackdown and Smackdown currently having the majority of cruiserweight talent.  What I was attempting was an idea to promote Heat on both shows, get some cruiserweight action on Monday nights and a cruiserweight title defense on either group's PPV's, plus a way to get someone like a Eddie Guerrerro, Jeff Hardy or X Pac on Heat occassioanlly and be involved with the division despite being on a different roster.

So it didn't really make sense, you're right.  It was an attempt.  I still like the idea of pushing the cruiserweight division like an extreme sport and really pushing the fast pace and high risks moves of these performers in much of the same way skateboarding, etc. is promoted.
