Guest Tim Cooke Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 I just finished my second viewing of Paul London v AJ Styles from the 6/14 ROH show in Boston. The first time I watched it was in the hotel at 2 am after Saturday Nights show. I thought it was a MOTYC then but wanted to re-watch to make sure my mind wasn`t playing games with me. This beats out 4/12 London/Danielson and 3/22 Williams/Daniels. You will find no bigger AJ Styles hater than myself. His 11/9/02 match vs. Danielson was all due to Dragon IMO. But on 6/14, he showed up BIG TIME. I won`t spoil any key portions of the match as there are a ton. The selling, the storyline, the intensity...just off the charts. And I was live in Philly on 4/12 for the loudest heat I have ever seen for a match. If Styles wrestled like this on TNA and in ROH every time out, he would be top 10 in the world. He dumped his crappy moves, sans one new one. London was terrific as usual. He played more of an intense character as he was pissed at AJ for leaving him as his tag partner due to surgery. Get this tape now. I am not an RF shill but all the recent ROH tapes I have viewed in the past 2 days are produced better than any TNA show I have ever seen and feature better wrestling that can`t be found anywhere in the US. My top 5 for 2003, through 7/19 are: 1. Styles/London 6/14 2. London/Danielson 4/12 3. Daniels/Williams 3/22 4. London/Daniels 4/26 5. ???? Still need to watch the rest of the FWA/ROH 5/17 show as well as the 2nd half of 5/31. The WEEEE screwed up Jamie Noble. I hope to god they don`t screw up what they have with London. Tim
Guest tpww7 Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Sounds good...cant wait to pick up this show when I go to the 8/16 show. Hopefully Death Before Dishonor is out by then too.
Guest ChaosTheory Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Damn-and I was gonna hold off on getting this one for a couple of weeks (I have every show thru Do or Die). Thanks Tim
Guest bob_barron Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Damnit Tim! Now I have to spend $20 picking up another tape. Couldn't you have it trashed it instead??
Guest Stevie Franchise Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Tim you rated 4/12 ****3/4 so is this *****?
Guest Tim Cooke Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Nah, 4/12 is ****1/2, 6/14 is ****3/4.
Guest Deviant Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Would you mind using show names as well, mainly because I'm buying five very soon, the first five after the One Year, and don't want to have to go to ROH's site and go to the list to figure out what show is which... Only minor, disregard. Sounds like a great match, but of course, I wouldn't expect anything less from a ROH Styles/London match. Your top five was the top five ROH matches thus far, right?
Guest Tim Cooke Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Nah, that is my top 5 of the year so far. Ultimo Guerrero vs. Shocker from 12/13/02 and GDI vs. Ultimo Dragon/Kaz Hayashi (1/19/03) probably fall in at 5 and 6. Still need to see the much hyped Juve vs. Volador Jr. match from Monterey. Tim
Guest Randy Pan Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 It is all double dutch to me. I really wish ROH would number their shows like TNA, would make life so much easier when trascking down older tapes. It will probably be another 6 months before I see any "recent" stuff - I have only just managed to get some from January this year. Darn living so far away from the pulse, but at least I get to see some, which is more than I can say for most wrestling "fans" in my parts.
Guest Doyo Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 I just watched this and was a little dissapointed. Great match, but I guess my expectations were too high. The finish was a big letdown and I didn't think it was going to be the finish. The WWE would get heavily criticized if they had this finish for a big match. I understand they were suppose to be angry at each other, but there sure was a lot of punches to the head going on.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 They had to do that finish since Styles is the TNA champion and can't do jobs
Guest Doyo Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 I would have rather seen a series of 2 counts and then the time limit run out or a double KO.
Guest ConspiracyVictim Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Ultimo Guerrero vs. Shocker from 12/13/02 and GDI vs. Ultimo Dragon/Kaz Hayashi (1/19/03) probably fall in at 5 and 6. Still need to see the much hyped Juve vs. Volador Jr. match from Monterey. I liked the Shocker v. Vampiro 4/1 match better than Shocker v. Ultimo but maybe thats just because it was super heated. And the Juve v. Volador Jr match is freakin awesome but Juvi also had a good match in March with Felino also. Also you should check out the Caifaines v. Orientales match from Monterrey this year...one of the Tag MOTY if you ask me. Also, the ROH stuff this year has been great. Im still waiting for AJ/London in the mail, but if its better than the Danielson/London match then I have to see it.
