Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 The Associated Press July 22, 2003, 3:05 PM EDT Two months later than its operators hoped, The National Network will be renamed Spike TV. Viacom announced Tuesday that it will make the change Aug. 11. It had been scheduled for June 16, but was put off when filmmaker Spike Lee sued to stop it. Lee and Viacom settled the lawsuit earlier this month. Viacom is positioning Spike as a TV channel for young men. Its premiere night programs will include a party, taped months ago, at the Playboy Mansion featuring Pamela Anderson and a two-hour "World Wrestling Entertainment" special.
Guest Eagan469 Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 maybe a "Best Of Summerslam" special or something
Guest AndrewTS Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Whats so special about WWE? LoL Special as in "special," I assume they mean. In other words, the phrase as it is used in "Special Olympics" and "Special Education."
Guest JRE Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Apparently it will include a "surprise Spike moment"
Guest Insane Bump Machine Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Apparently it will include a "surprise Spike moment" He'll win a match?
Guest Eagan469 Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 August 11 is on a Monday. It's RAW. but they could put a 2-hour special on afterwards - they did that a few times before
Guest Retro Rob Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I'm banking on either a Best of Raw on TNN special, or a SummerSlam retrospective to follow Raw. Just an hour long fluff piece.
Guest JRE Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 The press piece at !wrestling just said it would be a regular Raw, with, like a said a "surprise Spike moment"
Guest nWoScorpion Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Spike Dudley will win the World Title! ::Phone Rings:: BrB (Answers Phone) What? Your Kidding....Hell Froze Over?! I am so there!!! (grabs ice skates and heads to hell; forgets to hang up phone)
Guest Youth N Asia Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I can't really make myself care about Spike TV
Guest DerangedHermit Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I can't really make myself care about Spike TV Seriously, they should have picked a less gay name for the network, like: ...BRUCE TV.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 The press piece at !wrestling just said it would be a regular Raw, with, like a said a "surprise Spike moment" The ring is a Slamball court and Ren and Stimpy show up.
Guest Retro Rob Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 THE MULLETS take on La Resistance. Hey, that would add some depth to the division.
NYU Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 The Mullets are on UPN, dammit ! That wouldn't help ! Now, what DOES make sense: Stacy Keibler gets a phone call from Vince McMahon. He's giving her the night off, so she can be set up on a blind date with someone. Stacy agrees and goes to a restaurant. In walks Test ! Hilarity ensues, with all those amazingly funny graphics on the bottom - from the WWE writers of course. Rico comes into the room with his American Gladiators gear on - and glasses - and starts jousting with Test. Test knocks him out, brings him up to the second floor, and throws him off the balcony. Hurricane arrives with Stripperella, and figures out that Rico couldn't have committed suicide off of the second floor - since jumpers don't wear glasses. He and Stripperella run into the restaurant and start battling Test, until the cops from CSI run in and stop all the madness. Then, Vince makes out with both Stacy and Stripperella since it's QUITE obvious from WWE television that he is an unbelievable Ladies Man. There ya go. The perfect SPIKE TV NIGHT ! Blind Date + American Gladiators + CSI + Stripperella + Plus whatever Spike TV crap you want to add = WWE ratings ! It's gold, Jerry. GOLD !
Guest JHawk Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Spike Dudley will win the World Title! ::Phone Rings:: BrB (Answers Phone) What? Your Kidding....Hell Froze Over?! I am so there!!! (grabs ice skates and heads to hell; forgets to hang up phone) Actually, I'd consider doing this, if only because NOBODY would ever actually expect it to happen. Not saying I want Spike Dudley as World Champion, because I don't, but the crowds seem to care about Spike the Bumping Machine, and there could be a huge pop for it. Of course, it would never happen without Bubba Ray, D-Von, and Goldberg all interfering and possibly with Hunter's foot being on the bottom rope or something. And it wouldn't last any longer than the next week's Raw. We can't make Hunter look weak going into SummerSlam after all. Eh, who am I kidding? Even WWE writers aren't on enough crack to consider that. Right?
Guest Michael Joel Benoit Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Eh...it is just a name change. They will still show the same shows they are showing already. Expect the Spike TV moment to be lame also.
Guest wrestlingbs Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Spike TV: the network for men, with gay dogs and cats, plus 24 hr. Star Trek. Spike TV seemed to always be one of those ideas that was destined to fail.
Guest Choken One Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Viacom are idiots...The name has been ruined now...Stick with TNN. Or NMN National Men's Network
Guest nWoScorpion Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 or call it MEN Manly Entertainment Network Ok, I need a better M, but its better than SPIKE TV.
Guest JHawk Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 An all-men's network is a good idea. Too bad 95% of the programming for it sucks.
Guest Choken One Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Well how can they even have SPIKE when they already canceled two of the shows that they had planned for the revival...
Guest Choken One Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 If you want MAN'S network... Buy Espn.
Guest AndrewisyourHero Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Here's what I don't get..on Stripperella (Yeah, I've watched a few episodes. Sue me), they blur out the nudity. Now, what's the point of making a show about STRIPPERS if they can't show it unblurred. I mean, it's already tv MA, and they run a warning before hand. It doesn't make any sense. Of course, this is also the network that ran Showgirls and digitally painted a bra onto the chick from SBTB..Liz something or other..
Guest JHawk Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 If you want MAN'S network... Buy Espn. Not as long as they're showing WNBA games and LPGA golf. Besides, you're finding more and more women who are into "men's" sporting events. I still contend that with four Lifetimes, Oxygen, and Women's Entertainment all on my cable system that an all-men's network is needed. Spike TV ain't it though.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 or call it MEN Manly Entertainment Network Ok, I need a better M, but its better than SPIKE TV. Men's Entertainment Network works just fine. So what's the second show to get cancelled? Stripperella is done, is Gary The Rat through as well??? Ha.

Guest Choken One Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Stripp was confirmed and but I was told by someone that Gary was not doing so hot either... I say Make AN ONE MUST SEE TV night 800: Most Extreme Elimination 9-11-Raw 11: A Cop Show 12: Adult Themed Cartoons...
