Guest Choken One Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I was wondering a few things... 1) Who Uses it? 2) When did it originate? 3). Do you think Movie Theaters should emply them using Modern Tech?
Guest Prototype450 Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Closed Captions helped make me a better reader. I would sit there with my dad and show him all the words that pronounce.

Do you think Movie Theaters should emply them using Modern Tech? 1) Deaf people / people hard of hearing 2) When the television industry got lawsuits up it's ass: Telecommunications Act (1996) The Telecommunications Act of 1996 laid the groundwork for the FCC rulings that will, by the end of the phase-in period, require captioning on virtually all television programs. ADA (1990) The Americans with Disabilities Act has very little specific mention of captioning, but it sets the spirit and tone for other captioning-related laws. TDCA (1990) The Television Decoder Circuitry Act is mean, lean, and specific: All TV sets sold in the US have to have captioning if the screen is 13" or bigger. 3) I think they already do

Guest starvenger Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Where do they have CC Movie Theaters? They've got some in Toronto, but I'm not entirely sure how they work. LED and some special mirror/doohickey I think...
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I use it a lot when the kids are making noise and I can't hear. I love it.
Guest Choken One Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 yeah...I love it too obviously. I just wish they had it when I was at school...Then I could have understood the Fucking history tapes.
Guest Crucifixio Jones Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Well...Yeah I used Close Captions BIG SURPRISE there right? Hell, Like said before It made me a reader... It made you a better reader? Perhaps, but those who read alot also tend to be better writers and since it's well known you can't write a coherent sentence to save your miserable life then you're a liar or you're a liar and a goddamn retard. I'm guessing on the latter. Closed Captions helped make me a better reader. I would sit there with my dad and show him all the words that pronounce. All the words that pronounce? Ditto for you, lightbulb. Personally, the only people who I've seen use closed captions are the idiots who are amazed that their television can (badly) subtitle a program that they are watching. That fascination turns to them leaving it on all the time, even when they don't need it, annoying the piss out of me. It's for deaf people not DUMB people. If you can HEAR leave the fucking captions off. You should've learned to read in SCHOOL not during People's Court or Jerry Springer, trailer park denizens.

And used the closed captions when I was 5. you know when I was kindergarten. It helped me add new words to my vocabulary. Don't run around insulting my intelligence when i forgot the I in one sentence. Fuck you very much and have a nice day.

LED and some special mirror/doohickey I think... That's a system called Reflective Captioning... they use it in Disney World too (at least in the attraction I worked on) It's pretty cool stuff.
