If this movie does not bomb- Then this is the last great Live action Movie in the US.

What makes you say that?

Looks whats coming down the pipe-

DBZ-

Evangelion-

Cutey Honey (If they redub the movie)

Star Wars Ep3 (Still not good)

Then theres the "I quit from Trad-Animation" talk from Dreamworks- and Disney wants to do more CGI ouside of Pixar- so now I cant stand CGI animation anymore, because Because Pixar makes a movie based on story- and makes money- and Sinbad cant make nearly a profit.

Then theres the thing with the showings they did about The Passion- they have Muslims turning to Christanity (read it some where) and Matt Drudge and Jack Valanti stated this movie is the best done in sometime. I met Matt Drudge- THIS guy is for real, and he is an American Hero- I will say that to the day I die.

I know the Lord of The Rings: Return of the King will be GREAT- but the The Passion will come after that.

And really, sadly DBZ will do well. And that will be the deathnell of Live Action Movies in the states- They will take EVERY SINGLE ANIME that they cant air on American SatAM Animation Blocks and make it into the movie of the week. Fucking Bullshit. They have pigendholed most of the animators in Disney and Dreamworks- that only means that Viacom and AOLTW are the ONLY motherfuckers that will ever do a Trad-Animation, and Viacom asked Klasky Cluso to do their last three animated movies- the Spongebob Movie will be done by somebody else, and AOL's Looney Toons: Back In Action only has a short from Svlester and Tweety that even gives a hint of greatness.

Thats why I stated what I have stated and I will stick with that statement.

Well, Mel's father IS anti-Semitic (he's even gone so far as to claim the Holocaust never happened).

That at least gives to me the sense of credence to those who claim this film has some anti-Semitic views.

Just in the trailer I was able to spot Biblical inaccuracies. That being the case, what's the point of keeping it in a foreign language.

I've seen the trailer and I'm curious as to what biblical inaccuracies you spotted, Greg.

whoa whoa whoa...just because someones Dad says something doesn't mean that there kid agrees. You ever fight with your parents before? I can say i all honesty that half of the things MY dad beleives in or says..I roll my eyes and then proceed to say why I don't thin that way... So just because Mel's dad is an Anti-Semetic old man doesn't mean that Mel Gibson is going to go out and make a movie bashing the jews.

regardless, that's just a stupid blanket statement to make. this will be the last great live action movie in the US? does that mean that no one in this country will ever make a great movie again? david lynch, paul thomas anderson, spike lee, steven spielberg, wes anderson, terry zwigoff, christopher nolan, spike jonze...none of these people will make great movies, even though they all have before? none of the people who haven't even made movies yet in america will ever make a great one?

and why will it only be a great movie if it doesn't bomb? how does that make the movie, in itself, good or bad?

Eh, they lost me with the nails thru the hands thing. Anyone nailed to a cross was nailed thru their wrists. There's just not enough meat to a hand to support a human body by a few nails. The whole point of crucifixion is to make someone suffer until they asphyxiate, so you can't exactly have their hands tear apart and have them flopping around on the cross.

I bet the live-action Evangelion pisses many fundies off. The savior of the world is a fourteen year-old boy who fights entities called "Angels" in a giant robot. Yep, that's not gonna go unnoticed. Not to mention all the symbolism...

I didn't even notice that. I'm suprised the movie missed something like that.

Matt Drudge who saw a special screening, said there wasn't a dry eye in the screening room.

David Lynch: Off by a country mile, Dune was Awesome however and his best work.

Paul Thomas Anderson: Movies are good, not epics.

Spike Lee: I have a problem with his ideals- used to be the best in the Biz, but now is just there.

Steven Spielberg: This guy is past his prime. Sorry. That just the way it is.

Wes Anderson: Sadly the Crop of Anime Films that will come out will deminsh his carrer.

Terry Zwigoff: Crumb was one hell of a film. Ghost World was a bit off. The problem is he is getting too old, and is not so much in the industry to make an impact.

Christopher Nolan: He is good- But talent can only go so far.

Spike Jonze: Is just there sadly.

This is the best you can think up with?

I dont mean to make a blanket statement, I am just looking at trends in the Industry, and I see that anime is now a 4.4 Billion Dollar industry in the states- you KNOW as well as I do that Hollywood wants a HUGE part in that.

I will stick to that statement- Matt Drudge has NEVER seen steely Washington Types cry since 9-11- THIS is the Last Great Live Action Movie in the states- if it becomes huge.

You sir, are either an otaku of the highest order or a goddamn nitwit. Take your pick, but they pretty much equal the same thing. To say that this will be the last great live action movie in the States is so fucking ridiculous I suggest everyone just ignore your comments.

@C. Jones:

I'll probably get to watch Avalon on sunday, hadn't even heard of the film until I read your review. I hope it's as good as you say it is. If the last movie I watched after reading your review on it (Battle Royale) is any indication I'll probably love it.

David Lynch: Off by a country mile, Dune was Awesome however and his best work.

i'd argue that lynch is better now than he's ever been, but since you think 'dune' is his best movie, i don't think we'd even have a basis for argument. that's not saying you're wrong, it's just a RADICAL difference of opinions.

Paul Thomas Anderson: Movies are good, not epics.

a) why does a movie have to be an epic to be great?

b) how was 'magnolia' not an epic? it was extremely ambitious and screamed "grandiose" on every scale, from the number of characters to the issues it tackled to the visual style to the biblical ending. it's an epic about everyday people in the same way that 'ulysses' is.

Spike Lee: I have a problem with his ideals- used to be the best in the Biz, but now is just there.

right now, spike's the most exciting he's ever been: in the last 5 years, he's made '4 little girls', 'a huey p. newton story', 'bamboozled' and '25th hour'. THAT'S range. 'bamboozled' was uneven but it had parts that were as brilliant as anything he's ever done, and right after that he turned around and made a completely different film, which was not only his most restrained one to date, but one of his best.

Steven Spielberg: This guy is past his prime. Sorry. That just the way it is.

spielberg's still got it, and proved it by pulling off 'minority report' and 'catch me if you can' in the same year. he just needs the right script.

Wes Anderson: Sadly the Crop of Anime Films that will come out will deminsh his carrer.

huh? i don't see the reasoning here. will anderson pay so much attention to these new anime films that he'll forget how to make movies? or will these anime films dominate the market so much that he'll never get the funding to make a movie again?

Terry Zwigoff: Crumb was one hell of a film. Ghost World was a bit off. The problem is he is getting too old, and is not so much in the industry to make an impact.

you don't need to be in the industry to make an impact. see orson welles, jean-luc godard, wong kar-wai, et al. also, "old" does not = "can't make great movies anymore." see jean-luc godard, akira kurosawa.

Christopher Nolan: He is good- But talent can only go so far.

pray tell, what does one need besides talent to make a great movie? call me crazy, but it seems to me that this "talent" would be the biggest factor here.

Spike Jonze: Is just there sadly.

lives or dies on the strength of kaufman's scripts, but that doesn't count him out. i don't admire him as a director, but that doesn't mean he won't make another great movie: kaufman can EASILY cook him up another great one.

This is the best you can think up with?

yes. along with todd solondz, todd haynes, & the coen brothers, it's also the best group of filmmakers this country has had since the 70s.

Well...Who WOULD show up to watch a movie they won't understand anything being said...

At least people will know what Hearing Impaired fuckers feel like.

If the visual aspect of this film is powerful enough then it won't matter here. It's not as if this story has never been told before.

Personally, I'd be suprised if this movie does well at all. First of all eliminate half the people because it's not in english. Eliminate another quarter of the people because the movie will be too long.

You and I have diffrence of opinion- I dont these guys can cut it anymore.

The real Directors are away from hollywood - or if in hollywood- in the animation industry, and since Dreamworks and Disney are not really going to deal with Trad-Animation- those that do new shows in the SatAM/Adult Swim/The Strip front- that means there is not a lot of people that are there in the first place.

However there are some damn good directors in the Prime Time Front and Cable, that if given a chance could make Spike Lee piss in his pants.

As for the guy that stated I was an Otaku:

I AM NOT, NEVER WAS or NEVER WILL BE an Otaku! Those stinky commies should die for what they did to Fox Kids. They are a bunch of unamerican bastards and should be burned at the stake!

Of course you can call me a nitwit- because I see trends? Ok...that would get you far.
