Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted July 24, 2003 ...got a knack, for folding mid-season. http://www.worldhockeyassociation.net I expect a return of the Quebec Nordiques, Hartford Whalers, and Winnipeg Jets. Hopefully the debut of the Saska Tunes. I think it's cool that Bobby Hull is running things, and can probably do better than Bettman. Think Brett will sign with the Jets? Anyway, this red line-less trap-free league should be fun to watch, and I hope this incarnation of the WHA does very well.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 24, 2003 WHA needs Vince McMahon. This is the WHAAAAAAAAA! Hockey has fights already so it would fit. Ice Skating Cheerleaders..and..puck cam!
Guest Lightning Flik Report post Posted July 24, 2003 I'm thinking that should the NHL and NHLPA really do have problems getting their act resolved, the WHA might actually have a chance. I'll wait to see how this plays out next year (when they actually get going, if they make it that far) before I'll judge.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Is it only going to air in Canada?

Guest Phr33k Report post Posted July 24, 2003 They are gonna have an Orlando team, thereby fucking up right out of the gate.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Yeah I guess Orlando is the necessary evil. But hey once this starts this could be programming for Spike TV. Faster, harder, and Canadianer than the NHL. I say give it a shot.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Hooray for Canada I guess...They gotta get their Canadian cities SOMEHOW. I'd take out Houston and give it to a Nothern city like Cincy Don't be fooled...Cincy likes Hockey...
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Everything you want to know about the league can be found at http://www.wha2.com. It lists the 6 teams that have already confirmed, and talks about which CDN teams that they're in discussions with to add. So, those of us that were hoping for a Whalers reprise will be S.O.L. Us New Englanders will have to drive to Quebec City to check out a game.
Guest Lightning Flik Report post Posted July 24, 2003 So they've already got six teams established? And pretty much any Canadian team will be supported (and there is two that will be confirmed, Hamilton is iffy). So with 8 teams in the bag, you can at least say this league is on the right track to get things started.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Why not just kill off the remaining Canadian NHL teams and just have your own god damn Canadian Only Organzation? You can bring in Boston, Chicago, Detroit and NYC as Honorary Canadian Cities and everything will be peachy. And the rest of America can be spared of all these Expansion popping teams... You can bring in Boston, Chicago, Detroit and NYC as Honorary Canadian Cities and everything will be peachy. And the rest of America can be spared of all these Expansion popping teams... Huh? Why the animosity towards a new league? Is it because Cincinnati's not listed as a candidate for a team, and other cities are? You seemed pretty keen on the idea until you found out that Cincy wasn't getting a team, and now you have a venemous anti-Canada, anti-expansion viewpoint. Having said that, I'd be ecstatic if the Canadian teams left the NHL, and took the US Original Six teams with them. I was a lot happier as a fan of when there wasn't teams in: Columbus, Florida (TWO?!?), Phoenix, Nashville, N. Carolina, etc.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 24, 2003 I wasn't against the WHL at all. I was saying that because NHL can't support Those Small-Market cities anymore Why don't they just create their own Canadian Hockey Organization to combat NHL? I am against Expansion. In ANY sport.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted July 25, 2003 WHA2 is the feeder. For the top WHA I did see Hartford on the list as well as Cincinnati, another former WHA town, and Cleveland.
Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted July 25, 2003 This could take off, especially if the NHLPA says "fuck off and die" to the league next summer and they shut down. They'd have a whole season to themselves to establish a fan base.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Thanks for the correction on the wha2 ... I'd been sent the link from a friend of mine and posted it before I actually read the entire page. As a Boston fan that's sick and tired of the Bruins "frugal" approach to the game, count me in as someone that'd be making the drive to Hartford a few times a week to see a return of the Whalers. As a full on Hockey Krishna that's in the middle of a boycott of the Bruins, I'm really missing seeing professional hockey games.
Guest Lightning Flik Report post Posted July 25, 2003 I wasn't against the WHL at all. I was saying that because NHL can't support Those Small-Market cities anymore Why don't they just create their own Canadian Hockey Organization to combat NHL? I am against Expansion. In ANY sport. Choken One. One third of the league (NHL) is up for sale and some of them aren't the "small market" teams (Dallas to name one off the top of my head), so I don't buy your idea of "get rid of all the small market teams" because the NHL can't support them. We, Canadians, make a CHO to combat the NHL? CO, think about the population difference. In Cananda we've got one tenth your population and thusly the CHO would never be able to compete against the NHL as firstly: we'd only get an audience in Canada, the US will not give a damn about it (or that much [i'm talking general public]). Second: Since you've only got an audience about one tenth in size, so too will be the wages. Why would some big name work in the CHO when they can make more money and be more of a household name in the NHL? ...as for expansion, it does work. Just it has to be done at an appropriate time for it to succeed.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Expansion is good, in moderation. When the league expanded from 6 to 12 teams, it was a good idea. When they added the WHA teams, it was a good idea. But then they got bloated, thanks to the wisdom of Gary Bettman, and blew up to the debacle that it is now. There's not enough talent to have 30 teams, it forces teams to bring up players that should be in the minors. And in terms of the US population not caring about a CHO, I painfully have to agree. Most of the US doesn't care about the US teams, let alone the Canadian ones.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted July 26, 2003 WHA was talking about maybe stealing some NHL clubs during the lockout. That could make things interesting.
