Panic room

I saw it and tought it was a very entertaining thriller. It's not up there with Seven or Fight Club, but a good movie.

So what does everyone think? I know there are other Fincher fans on this board.

Pasted from the "Two highly anticipated movies..." thread...

"I'm Raoul"

I just came from seeing Panic Room this afternoon. Jodie Foster & Forest Whitaker were both pretty good, it had some tense moments and some fancy camera work.  The story was predictable--anyone who has seen a thriller will see a lot of things coming--and there was at least one REALLY GLARING plot hole, which they alluded to in a cutesy way. Still, it was an interesting concept for a movie, and the directing made it fun to watch.

Oh, and the movie takes place a block from my house, so that earns it some extra coolness points  :)

If anything, I wish it had been a bit longer, with a few more "chess moves" as it were.  The ending was kinda weird, the music was building up in a crescendo and you knew that SOMETHING was about to happen, and then... nothing.  Eh.  I liked all the actors for the most part, who knew that Jared Leto had talent?  I do kinda wonder what it would've been like if Nicole Kidman had played the lead as it was originally cast.

Oh and 212, what do you mean about the one big plot hole?  You can just hint at it, for the people who haven't seen it yet.

<Jodie Foster does something with a sledgehammer>

Raoul: "Why didn't WE think of that?"

Me: "I've been asking that for an hour."

It's not THAT major, but it just popped out at me.

Worst movie ever.

I was waiting for the burgulars to run up the stairs and get hit with paint cans.

I fell asleep a couple of times during the movie and at one point yelled, "Fuck this shit!" The movie seemed like it would never fucking end. I was beating myself in the forehead after a while. I was thinking, "ths is so fucking stupid!" That's 2 hours of my life I will never get back.

The best moment for me was when we got into the theater as the opening credits were rolling and i went down the aisle like an asshole doing the NWO finger wiggle thing in the dark.

It was a good movie..not a great one.

For me, It just seem to have a "long way to go, short time to get there" feel to it.

It's tough for a horror, thriller, or mystery to really succeed since everything has been done a thousand times.

What was the plot hole?

Was it "Why didn't we think of that?"?

I'm glad Jodie Foster was in it instead of Nicole Kidman.

It may not have been great, but it was better than most of the crap Hollywood puts out.

I'm also glad Jodie Foster was in it. She has more of a cerebral & mentally tough on-screen persona, which kinda made it more believable. I see Nicole Kidman as being a little too...I dunno...girly. It would have felt like a different movie with Kidman, with more of a sexual threat to the character. You didn't really get that with Foster.

Speaking of this, did anyone else think that the kid in that movie was a boy whey they started watching it? Seriously, when Jodie Foster started referring to her as "my daughter" (3/4 of the way through), I was like, "huh? what?!". LOL. Even though she kept addressing her as "Sarah", I was thinking, "what's that kid's name? Cero? Cirruh? Must be Scottish or something". Well, it's nice to see that Annabel Andrews's daughter is also a tomboy.

The film would have had another layer of irony given how Nicole was going through her divorce with her retarded husband Tom Cruise during the time that the movie was being filming...

A bit longer? I fell into deep sleep twice in that motherfucker and still woke up mad that the movie was still on. I was so antsy that I yelled, "FUCK THIS SHIT!!" at the top of my lungs when the movie looked like it would end but managed to milk a few more minutes from my life. The movie seemed like a shitty home alone that tried to be funny at times and ended up being funny for the wrong reasons.

I know what the plot hole was. The plot hole was when the white guy with the cornrows got his face burned off, but his hair wasn't burned off of his head. Actually that's not a plot hole, but the plot holes and fuckups were there in droves.

If they didn't activate the phone in the Panic Room, how was electricity supplied to the room to show them images on the monitors when they took the tour of the house?

Fire blanket or not, if someone has been sending propane gas through a ventilation duct into a room that you are in and you stick your arm in the duct with a lighter, I believe the fire would not just shoot out the duct and towards the source of the propane.
