Virtual Memory Low

Recommended Posts

Guest chirs3

It seems any time I run a program more complicated than Solitaire, I get that stupid "Warning: Virtual Memory Low" warning, and the computer slows to a crawl.

This happens most frequently when playing games whose system requirements are FAR within range of this machine's capabilities, like, say... Diablo 2. (I've got a Pentium III 1 Ghz, 128MB Ram)

Or programs like Flash MX. It can take literally MINUTES just to save or load a file I'm working on.

Any idea how to make this annoying problem go away?

Control Panel ---> System ----> Advanced ---> Virtual Memory ----> Change

Make your paging file bigger.

Buy more memory. You can get a stick of 128 or 256 MB RAM for 30-60 dollars.

With a 1GHZ processor you want at least 256 MB RAM total.

I have a 1.7GHZ processor and started with 256 RAM and I would get those warnings

a lot and had problems with Battlefield 1942. I went to 512 RAM and noticed a big difference

and now I am at 1024MB RAM.

Well, until I can get the extra RAM I'm going with Tyler's suggestion. I upped it from 192 to 250 (Max was 300 something), and I've yet to be reduced to slug-like speed while playing, so... here's hoping it stays this way. *crosses fingers*
