The Playstation PSP: Handheld system...

Recommended Posts

Guest Downhome

Here goes, and tell me what you think it looks like...

...hmmm, it looks quite familier, but I can't quite place it. ;)

Does Sony even have a chance to go against Nintendo in this market? For the past decade, OVER a decade, the big N has dominated the handhelds.

NOTE: This is quite possibly a fake, but still, it's quite interesting to me. Discuss if you think Sony has a chance against Nintendo in this market or something. I just wanted so share this picture.

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

Are you sure this pic is not form Electronic Gaming Monthly? The mag has been printing images of fake next gen machines for months. They even have a contest about this.

I think it's a fake. I don't think Sony is dumb enough to release a system without a headphone jack or shoulder triggers.

What's the system going to run off of anyway? If it's going to run off of CD's, then the system needs to be a lot bigger then that.

Nintendo's gamcube discs are 3 inches and hold 1.5 Gigs. And that technology is already a few years old.

When is Japan going to realize that AMERICANS DON'T LIKE SMALLER DISCS?

The minidisk never took off over here, and there's a reason why the Gametoaster is behind PS2 and suX-Box.

For whatever reasons, Americans can't get behind a small CD, so why Japan keeps trying to pump it down our throats, I don't know.

You really believe that the gamecube is third because of the disc size? GCN is behind because of the lack of marketing and third party support, who cares about the discs? Except software pirates of course.

With handhelds, smaller is better. What do you want, a handheld the size of a discman? I don't hear anyone complain about the small Gameboy cartridges.

Theres no way it sells for less than $200, and that price point will handicap it. You can get a PS2 for $149 as it stands right now (probably cheaper by the time the PSP sees the light of day) and by then the PS3 will probably be close on the horizon and people will probably decide to save for that instead.

I did notice the disc is in a cartridge. I suppose thats to prevent it from getting scratched up. I don't know why you need disc media at all anyway. You can have the fanciest graphics of any game ever and its still going to look like crap on a small screen.

Think that's a fake.

As a matter of fact, gamers.com is saying it looks like this:

So what's it really look like? Who the hell knows? I think they're all fakes.

That's a picture of Sony's new PDA that just came out. Totally unrelated.

Nintendo announces that the Game Boy Advance is currently the best-selling console in North America.

Nintendo has today issued a press release stating that Game Boy Advance is currently the best-selling console in North America by a considerable margin. No exact figures have been made available, but, according to the release, around 45 percent of all game consoles sold in North America last month were GBA systems.

Nintendo claims that the GBA outsold the PlayStation 2 through the first six months of this year, and that six of the top 10 selling games in the country right now are for the GBA. Sales of the GBA SP are expected to receive something of a boost on September 8, when two new colors, onyx black and flame red, are launched.

And now we know why Sony wants to make their own handheld..

Good God, what will these games look like?

PSP = PS 1.5

Apparently if you heard from www.gamespy.com, it's better than the PS1 (if you are wondering where I get that you much look at E3 info). How much better? Who's to know? They don't have anything in stone other than the little bits they dropped out.

Yet, for right now, I'm willing to bet that graphically, at the very least, it'll be more superior to the PS1.

I also think it's a fake, for many reasons, the most prominent being that the second pic has a PS logo on it, yet the third pic does not, and normally a series promo prototype pics would be taken at the same time and are of the same unit. It just mainly looks like someone Photoshopped the hell out of a Silver GBASP, right down to the blurred ports and volume control.
