OZZFEST Incident Leads To Charges Of Child Abuse - July 25, 2003

 

Gina Mace of Ohio's Beacon Journal is reporting that two men accused of abusing a 3-year-old child on the grounds of Cleveland's Blossom Music Center during Ozzfest 2003 this week were arraigned Thursday (July 24) on assault and child endangering charges.

 

Scott Hart, 24, the child's father, and Carl Evanoff, 22, the child's uncle, pleaded not guilty before Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Judge Kim Hoover. Hart also pleaded not guilty to an additional charge of obstructing.

 

Hart's wife — the child's mother — also attended the concert.

 

Blossom security and Summit County sheriff's deputies were alerted by concertgoers Tuesday (July 22) who observed Hart continually offering the child sips of an alcoholic beverage.

 

Witnesses said Evanoff yanked the boy by his hair to a standing position, held him upside down by one leg, and lifted the boy off the ground by his hair. One witness said Evanoff and Hart were flinging the child around when the boy hit a fence, bruising his knee and face.

 

The child was treated at the scene by Cuyahoga Falls Fire and Rescue, then transported to Akron Children's Hospital.

 

Hart is free on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court Aug. 8. Evanoff is in the Summit County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond. He is to be back in court Monday. On Thursday, Summit County Sheriff Drew Alexander announced that 147 citations were issued at Ozzfest. 114 of the citations were drug-related.

 

Cuyahoga Falls Police Chief John Conley said 13,000 people attended the daylong concert, which featured OZZY OSBOURNE and other heavy-metal bands.
