Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted July 26, 2003 Before I begin this message I want to make something perfectly clear I KNOW JACK SHIT ABOUT PS2 Okay, I've been getting lots of good hours at work and I've been saving up so I decided to get a PS2 as a las "kid thing" for myself. At an indy show last week some of the boys were playing this import game called King of Colosseum, it's this huge ass collaberation of puro guys (and we all know what a puro head BT is). Plus I've heard all this great shit about SD4 So I look into the ways you can play imports on a PS2 and I see something called a flip top which is pretty self explanitory, but it comes with two discs and for the life of me I can't figure out why. Could someone please explain to me in simple terms what exactly I'd need to do to play the game? I don't want to shell out the cash and find out that I can't use it. Guest TheBigCalbowski Report post Posted July 26, 2003 Well you need some way to modify your PS2 so that it can play import games. Generally you can get a mod chip, the flip top cover like you saw, slide card, etc. Mod chip usually has soldering involved. However, the best ones you can play PS1/PS2 imports and back ups as well as all region DVDs. Flip top cover, basically you boot up with one of the boot discs (one for DVD games and one for CD games), once it indicates that it's been booted up, you switch the boot disc with the actual game and you can play. The reason for the flip top cover is that pushing the eject button also causes your PS2 system to reset. The slide card is a method like the flip top cover except that you use a little thing to pull out the tray. (probably a riskier method than flip top) Your best bet would either be the flip top cover or a mod chip being that some mod chips require no swap and will directly boot your games. Hope this helps. Or hopefully someone who's a lot more expert at this can help you.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted July 26, 2003 thanks for the info, I'll probably go with the flip top since it seems to be least likely way I'll cause permanent damage to the console.
Guest The Old Me Report post Posted July 26, 2003 Just a note, a friend of mine broke his PS2 using the fliptop method, although I never had any problems. And I believe the new generation of PS2's, you can no longer use that feature.
