Guest razazteca Report post Posted March 31, 2002 Has anybody seen this show? To me this is a sweet surprise to see bands that do not have numbers in their names on MTV. Well so far they played Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, Ozzy Osbourne, Aphex Theory nice set of videos as hosted by Rob Zombie. I think that both Mudvayne and Mushroomhead are ok for their style of Metal, whatever it is called now....Pop Black Metal? I wish MTV would play more videos from bands that sound like this instead of the usual Rap-Rock of Kid Rock and System of Down or the bands with numbers in their names Blink 182 and Sum 41. I would like to see more of Tool, Type O Negative, Rage Anganst the Machine, but this is a good start if MTV is going to show more rock on its video rotations. Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted March 31, 2002 mtv will never have the balls to play really "extreme" metal, like if i see a cannibal corpse video (not that i like them but...) im just gonna sit there and be like holy ####
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted March 31, 2002 Umm...Mudvayne is "mathcore" or something like that...like Dillinger Escape Plan. Each new sub-genre gets dumber and dumber, I tells ya... How the hell can you call System Of A Down rap/rock? SERJ DOESN'T RAP AT ALL~!~
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted March 31, 2002 I don't know anything about this nonsense "Extreme Rock" stuff, but I'm glad to see that they've put the White Stripes in heavy rotation. "Fell In Love With a Girl" is an awesome, awesome video. If MTV would just play the sort of music that I like all of the time, it'd be a great channel. Guest razazteca Report post Posted March 31, 2002 well hmmmm Serj is not a tradition singer, to me he sounds like Mystical or Busta Rhymes in the way he uses his voice in a fast pace. I think Serj using his voice as a instrument is hard to explain so I compared him to the rappers that use similiar strategy. As for putting Death Metal on MTV, I doubt that will ever happen unless its used in the Beavis & Butthead context.
Guest Snappy Nappy Dugout Report post Posted April 1, 2002 I Just saw this show today. Good show, IMO. And i really did like that Mushroomhead song, can anybody give me some more of thier songs?
Guest Vyce Report post Posted April 1, 2002 I caught this. I say it's a step in the right direction, but I'm more fond of the White Stripes / Injected / Default / System of a Down videos, than the half-dozen or so face painted goons like Mudvayne (who is just god-awful) and Mushroomhead. I didn't think it possible, but I consider groups like Mudvayne even more inherently silly than Staind wannabees like Puddle of Mudd. But it's a good direction - more towards rock, less towards rap / pop. But until they start playing more Tool, I won't be impressed.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted April 1, 2002 It's not really fair to call Mushroomhead a face-paint band, as only the two vocalists have facepaint and the other 6 members of the band wear masks. As for Mushroomhead recommendations... "Bwomp" "Episode 29" (make sure it's an industrial song) "Before I Die" "Xeroxed"
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted April 1, 2002 Eh. I just wish they'd bring back Headbanger's Ball so I can get my fix of Dokken and Ratt videos.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted April 1, 2002 MTV and non pop? thats unheard of... were they on drugs?
Guest Report post Posted April 1, 2002 I caught some of the non-stop rock yesterday. They did play some okay music (I personally liked White Stripes and Injected), but they also kept playing crap like Creed, Blink, and Sum 41. It was like they were taking one step fowards and two steps backwards. It was cool seeing Matt Pinfield and that Ian guy going to all the indy shows though. If you wanna hear some real mathcore, listen to Drive Like Jehu.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted April 1, 2002 I've heard mushroomhead and mudvayne reffered to as 'mask metal' but obviuosly that says nothing about the music. I like both bands. Fuck it, it's all 'alternative rock' in the end.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 1, 2002 VH1! has the 80s hair band/glam show hosted by Skid Row singer but its mostly Motely Crue worship material. I like Mudvayne and Mushroomhead for being different than and not sounding like Nickleback and Puddle of Mud. I just hope mask/face paint metal does not get water down like what MTV did to glam/hair rock. If I see F'N Hanson wear face paint or a mask I will cancel my cable!!!!!! Guest pochorenella Report post Posted April 2, 2002 Eh. I just wish they'd bring back Headbanger's Ball so I can get my fix of Dokken and Ratt videos Goodhelmet, if you're serious about this, then I'm in your corner. Those were the days. Even though Dokken had some of the most crappy videos ever (except for In My Dreams), I loved watching George Lynch play the guitar hero role, which he did quite well. Ratt's videos were actually kind of cool, specially Round and Round and Lay It Down. Don't forget Cinderella and Whitesnake. They had some great videos as well, for the time period at least. Are they playing any makeup-era Kiss?
Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted April 2, 2002 Yes, Nickleback is more popular than Mudvayne and Mushroomhead because they have way more talent. Hate them.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted April 2, 2002 Apparently, WeCallYouAMark, you have only heard one or 2 Mushroomhead songs...because those songs take more talent than the pop/rock style of Nickelback.
Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted April 3, 2002 I actually listened to the album. Like pretty much every other aggro band, or whatever Mushroom head has decided to call themselves they're guitar riffs are simple (not necsessarily bad). They have no drama in their songs just guy with retarded voice singing, then some guy gargling. The drummer is pretty fast soemtimes but let me compare. Mushroomhead: Basic metal guitar Basic metal bass So-so gargler Singer who can't really sing that well Fast drummer Mudvayne: Harder riffs that are more complex and are more interesting Bass player is great, parts vary from the guitar's heavily So-so gargler who is also a so-so singer Fast drummer I don't know, just by the tale of the tape there... Looks like Mudvayne wins (Disclaimer: I don't like Mudvayne). You're welcome to disagree but just based on Mudvayne's bass player alone they beat Mushroom head by a large margin, I think. But hey I don't know what I'm talking about.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted April 3, 2002 The only thing Mudvayne can brag about is Ryknow is a fuckin awesome bassist. The rest is medicore. Mushroomhead is good, and i prefer them over Mudvayne.

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted April 3, 2002 I disagree with you because even Led Zeppelin had pretty good musicians by themselves, but their music together is just generic rock that was only made legendary because teens in the 70's thought Zep was rebellious. Mudvayne, albeit somewhat complicated riffs, also have a serious problem with putting together songs that SOUND good at all. On the album LD50, maybe 3 or 4 tracks of the 18 songs are any good. "Dig," "Death Blooms," "Pharmaecopia," and to a lesser extent "Nothing To Gein." Mushroomhead are not the GREATEST musicians in the world, but their styles blend together very well for the mixed genres they're a part of. One last thing...FUCK STEVEN SPIELBERG. Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted April 4, 2002 I guess it might have something to do with me not really being heavily overjoyed about the genre in general, but when Mudvayne plays I am able to appreciate at least the talent the various members bring to the table. Mushroomhead's just not the same for me, I suppose.
Guest Report post Posted April 6, 2002 "I think that both Mudvayne and Mushroomhead are ok for their style of Metal, whatever it is called now....Pop Black Metal?" *watches as Euronymous turns over in his grave* "Umm...Mudvayne is "mathcore" or something like that...like Dillinger Escape Plan." Tell me you are not serious!?! "As for putting Death Metal on MTV, I doubt that will ever happen unless its used in the Beavis & Butthead context." They laughed at Morbid Angel when they saw the God of Emptiness video =( I thought they were supposed to be about metal.
