Dean Douglas, Hakushi, and more...

Did anyone else think Dean Douglas was a great gimmick? I remember him cutting promos with a chalkboard and literally spelling out what he was going to do to his opponent. I don't know about you, but if I was a face wrestler this insult to my intelligence, as well as being a threat, would really piss me off. Dean came across as a perfect heel teacher.

Also, did anyone else watch WWF Action Zone just for the clip of Hakushi doing the handspring back elbow in the opening? When I was a kid there was just something so cool about the move. It ruined it for me years later when Chyna did it.

Who else was an Adam Bomb mark? I had a chance to buy his kick-ass goggles at a house show in '94, but I bought a pack of WWF cards (the thick ones) instead. I'm still kicking myself over that one.

1. Not really, I thought it just blended in with the rest of the WrestleCrap infested WWF of the mid 90's. Although, I do dig Shane, especially Perfect Strangers.

2. I did watch the Action Zone. Not for Hakushi, although he was decent. There were some forgotten classics on that show.

3. I have no answer to this one. That was a BAD mistake.

I actually likes Douglas, Hakushi, and Adam Bomb.

Douglas was alright, I didn't know about his ECW stuff and what a bitter asshole he was.

I like Japanese bad guys...dunno what it is. He sucked when he turned face though.

And Adam Bomb was good for a big guy.

I loved Douglas as a heel. My favorite part of IYH IV is watching HBK about to hand over the IC Title to Gorilla Monsoon, only to have Douglas heelishly snatch it from him and hold it up. I loved his music too. Watching HBK walk away from the ring while Douglas is gloating with the IC Title is great.

The Hakushi/Horowitz pairing was a guilty pleasure of mine, what can I say.

As for Douglas, it's pretty well known I'm a huge mark for the guy. I thought the gimmick was great, and that they could have made him huge (remember the RAW where he interfered in the Diesel/Shawn/UT vs. Owen/Yoko/Bulldog, and rammed Shawn hard into the post?) but the politics F'd him over.

I also liked Adam Bomb when he had his face turn and semi-push. He looked good as Wrath a few years later too, but got lazy when he was paired with Adams in Kronik.

I'll let the Chyna bashing slide just this once!

As for the people you mentioned, I never really cared that much for Adam Bomb, but I was a huge mark for Dean Douglas back in the day, which was pretty weird considering he was feuding with all my favorites. I've never understood why so many people shit on his character these days, because it had a lot of depth (which was unusual for 95) and got a lot of heat (go back and watch matches from the Kid/Razor/Douglas saga). Hell, I remember in 7th grade, he had all my friends running around scratching chalkboards. He's one of the first heels I ever truly rooted for.

As for Hakushi...I liked him, but character wise, he was pretty bland, and aside from the feud with Bret Hart he didn't do anything noteworthy. His 7/24/95 Raw match with Bret is one of my favorites from the year, and his handspring elbow, while not as good as Chyna's (SHUT UP!), and that running handspring into a moonsault over the top rope thing he'd pull out from time to time blew my mind.
