Ok, so why not have the date mentioned again, and again, and again, and again, and again?

...Rather than once.

THOSE (comedy) types of commercials is just Vince "makin movies".

The comedy commercials are to offset the serious ones that involve the matches.

Like the ones we saw for Steph/Sable, Gowen/McMahon, and the 3 Way Main Event for Vengeance.

Steph/Sable was serious? They got me.

The match itself wasn't, no.

But the promo was MEANT to be.

Ok, I'll make this easy.

(from my marketing textbook - don't worry, I already had it on my computer from last semester)

Defining Objectives:

Support Personal Selling: Advertising may be used to acquaint prospects with the seller’s company and products, easing the way for the sales force

This commercial does not do this. It does not advertise the company (the WWE) or it's product (Wrestling/Sports entertainment). It is completely independant of what the WWE is and does.

Improve dealer relations: Wholesalers and retailers like to see a manufacturer support its products.

Given that the WWE is not advertising its retail outlets in the commercial, this objective isn't met.

Introduce a new product: Consumers need to be informed even about line extensions that make use of familiar brand names.

Summerslam has been around for, what, 15 years?

Expand the use of a product category: Advertising may be used to lengthen the season for a product (as Lipton did for iced tea); increase the frequency of replacement (as Fram and Purolator did for oil filers); or increase the variety of product uses (as Arm & Hammer and Cow Brand did for baking soda)

Nope.

Counteract substitution: Advertising reinforces the decisions of existing consumers and reduces the likelihood that they will switch to alternative brands.

Nope. Not even close.

Creating a Message: Must accomplish 2 things: Get and hold the attention of the intended audience, and influence that audience in the desired way. If the ad succeeds in getting the audience’s attention, the advertiser has a few seconds to communicate a message intended to influence beliefs and/or behaviour. The message has two elements: The appeal and the execution. The appeal in an ad is the reason or justification for believing or behaving. It is the benefit that the individual will receive as a result of accepting the message.

Attention got, everything else not.

Execution is combining in a convincing, compatible way the feature or device that gets attention with the appeal. An appeal can be executed in different ways - presenting statistics, obtaining the endorsement of a respected person or organization, collecting testimonials from satisfied owners, describing the meticulous manufacturing process.

Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope...

Get it?

What was the RR commercial with Angle again?

American and British troops from the American Revolution are about to fire their guns off at each other in a field and then just drop them and beat the crap out of each other in the ring (that's in the middle of the field).

Kurt Angle is watching through a telescope. "You call that a Rumble? Pff."

At the end of the commercial, Angle has two "British" soldiers in headlocks. "No wonder you lost the freaking war!"

Anyway, I like comedic WWE commercial most of the time. NOT ALL WWE commercials HAVE to be serious you know.

What is with this card selling an event?

ECW regularly sold out in NYC, and they never said which matches wil be on.

A good comedic WWE commercial that stands out in my mind was the No Mercy commercial from last year, in which they dressed kids up as WWE wrestlers for Halloween.

PRIDE's public image would benefit from a well-liked TV commercial.

At least the SummerSlam commercial doesn't look like it was amde for 5 dollars and features a used car salesman like some... other forms of entertainment on PPV.

SummerSlam is a lock, it's like Mania, so they don't NEED to have a huge serious commercial involving Goldberg and HHH or some shit. Wrestling fans traditionally buy SummerSlam.
