The Military

Recommended Posts

Guest JAxlMorrison

The reason I ask is I am most likely going into the Air Force in October. I'm 21 and haven't really found my niche anywhere else. I also think I am kind of immature and irresponsible, and obviously the military would kick that right out of me. There's also the bait of college money, benefits for life, housing and food, travel, etc. etc.

Anyone have any thoughts?

If you don't want blind patriotism directly programmed into your brain and don't want to risk your life in needless wars to spite your family and friends, I wouldn't suggest it. Find someone or something you know for damn sure you can trust to exorcise the laziness out of you.

As a former Marine in the intelligence field, if you're serious about joining the military and are actually looking for some discipline, I'd avoid the ChAIR FORCE. That's one place where you're likely to get in WORSE shape and it is by FAR, the easiest of the four branches of the armed forces to get by in. They don't even have a regular PFT (Physical Fitness Test) like the other branches, the Air Force rides a stationary bicycle and measures their heartrate. WTF?

If you don't have what it takes to be a Marine, at least go to the Army. But don't waste your time with the Navy or God forbid, the Air Force if you actually want to grow into a mature and responsible person. Hell, you might not even need the military at all.

George Carlin had it right when it comes to the military..go bomb the shit out of them and fly home, rather than sitting in a foxhole.

There's no way I'd ever join the military. I'm far too lazy and apathetic, with a general distaste for people screaming at me like an inferior.

I would however join the military if it were a guarantee that I could use a flamethrower. Holy fuck..now there's a weapon.

I have a friend, his dad was a seal. He came back so strict that he hit his kids for every bad thing they did.

My cousin was in the air force.

He was stationed in Hawaii, but then got discharged because of medical reasons.

Few weeks later, America invades Iraq.

*clubs spiny's dad and make a coat*

My granddad was a gunner in the navy who also drank compulsively and died fairly young and insane. I've got a couple other relatives that were involved and had lousy experiences with it.

Not everyone who joins the military comes home dysfunctional in some way. I know far too many people who are fine and have kept in contact with many who are perfectly normally.

Although I can completely understand the youth of today saying "Fuck the military" with them being fat, lazy, undisciplined, disrespectful, unmotivated, etc. Saying "fuck the military" without exposition just sounds stupid. So add "ignorant" to that list as

well.

For every horror story (most of which are from the OLD days, Vietnam war and older) there's millions of success stories. Shit, I can tell you a ton myself since everyone that I remain in contact with, including myself, are doing FAIRLY well since their time in the armed forces.

You will enjoy San Antonio, too bad the traffic sucks right now. So have you taken the test to see what career you will get? I suggest something like Air Traffic Control or Base Ops that way when you get out of you 4-6 year committment with the govt you can work at an air port or go contract with the govt and do the same job but get paid more.

Get a job that you can use when you leave the military don't do something stupid like being a cook.

Volunteer for all the education the military will give you because military tech school in considered the same as collage or better in some fields.

Also do not believe all the hype and bullshit the recruiter will tell you.

LaParkaYourCar is correct. I am in the Navy and I just graduated from boot camp last week. I did fairly well and I recommend people should at least attempt to give a look at it before passing judgment.

Of course, but as you can attest I'm sure, It's not for everyone.

I remember one of my later years of high school, we had to take the ASVAB test, or ASFAB..something to do with the military, and I guess I scored extraordinarily well on it, so I had recruiters calling me all the time. Nooo thanks, sir.

My Grandfather and his 3 brothers were all Military men. My grandfather was a Tank Commander who served at D-Day. He's always said I should consider joining the Military.

I doubt I will but if there was ever a pressing need or something like that, then I'd join up faster than a lightning bolt to protect my country.

Wait. Would I be allowed Slurpees and beer if I was in the Military?

If I wasn't...screw patriotism. I NEED my slurpees.

I'm too much of a smartass to actually make it anywhere along those lines, although I'm sure they'd fix that real quick. My dad was a Marine during Vietnam and from what my grandma has told me, he, like many others who came home after, weren't ever quite the same afterwards.

Of course, that's back then and unless a similar war were to be going on. I had the military calling me for months and it didn't seem to matter what I said, they were almost refusing to take no for an answer. Thank god they finally stopped calling, because knowing me, I would've ended up in the military if they had kept at it, depsite me having no desire to do so.

I have severe problems with the military, since any memebers i have met have been bastards. They were all assholes who didn't get any proper education and went to the army for the money. Add to the fact that one of them tried to molest my ex girlfriend aand you can see why i think the military are dicks

I'd agree with you if he didn't mention the molesting part. They sound like authentic assholes. Not much more can be said, other than to avoid that specific group in the military, since there is no way that every branch of the military are assholes like the ones you encountered and not just the "this training will break your balls and you'll hate every second of it blah blah" type of assholes.
