Monday Nitro in 1997

Recommended Posts

Guest Andy

Following on from the responses to a similar post about 1996, I had a look through the Nitro archives for 1997 and there's a bunch of people there that I don't know either.

Can anyone give me any pointers?

Rick Fuller

Ron Fuller

Tombstone

Roadblock

Billy Pearl

Ron Powers

Top Gun

Galaxy - lucha guy?

Maxx

Knuckles Nelson

T. Rantula

Sick Boy

David Moore

Scott DeMar

Big Al - no South Park jokes

Lance Carleson

Lance Ringo

I presume the next three are tag teams...

The Extreme

The Texas Hangmen

Disorderly Conduct

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I can help out on a couple, but not all of them

T. Rantula

If you remember Eddy's LwO gimmick, this guy was his bodyguard. He wore shads and didn't say anything.

Sick Boy

He's WWE developmental wrestler Scott Vick.

The Texas Hangmen

Disorderly Conduct

As far as I know, they were just a jobber tag team. Nothing really memorable

Rick Fuller-- Big guy with an Afro, actually made it into WCW Thunder as an unlockable character, which I would guess is his claim to fame. Low undercard guy who got a few wins over jobbers but nothing else. Was wrestling New England indys last I knew. Ron Fuller could just be him under a different name.

Roadblock-- I think he even got a mini-push on Saturday Night or something, then was signed by the WWF. I think he did some development work for the Fed before getting dumped in one of the big development cutbacks. Not terribly impressive IIRC.

Knuckles Nelson-- New England Indy guy and former NWA Tag Champion. Fairly talented bigger guy but mostly Job guy in WCW.

T. Rantula-- Masked wrestler if its the guy I'm thinking of, and one who worked as enhancement talent for both WWF and WCW at points. EDIT: I'm pretty sure Cran is right on this one, and the guy I'm thinking of was just called "Tarantula" and did SN jobs. Whoops.

Sick Boy-- Former member of Raven's Flock and guy who used way too many springboard moves in his matches for a bigger guy. The WWF signed him and he wrestled a TON of dark matches for the Fed under his real name, Scott Vick. He looked like he was going to be promoted to the main roster several times, then just disappeared.

Big Al-- I THINK this was Al Greene, former tag partner of Kevin Nash in the Master Blasters and perhaps best known *cough* as "The Dog" in a horrible Vince Russo angle with Tank Abbot.

Disorderly Conduct-- Powerplant team I think. "Mean" Mike and "Tuff" Tom. Actually got a semi-push as a lower midcard team that won their fair share of matches.

Texas Hangmen-- Disorderly Conduct under hoods as the creatively named Texas Hangman #1 and Texas Hangman #2.

The Extreme-- Ace Darling and future Crowbar, Devon Storm as low midcard team that got a win or two on Nitro.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head, hope it helps.

Rick Fuller was just a jobber with long hair and a goatee. He's unlockable in WCW Thunder for the PSone.

Disorderly Conduct were two jobbers named Mean Mike and Tough Tom.

Big Al was a guy who came into feud with Tank Abbot and he was supposed to be some sort of streetfighter. He's covered on Wrestlecrap, because they had a leather jacket on a pole match, Tank won, got a switchblade out of the pocket and threatened to kill Al

Ron Fuller is the real name of Col. Parker, but they might mean some other guy.

Roadblock was this dude who's gimmick was that he would carry a roadblock to the ring with him. He used to hang with Jack Boot and Tombstone might have been with them, but I don't remember.

I assume that Maxx isn't Maxx Pain, but I want to say that I briefly remember him coming back as somebody's bodyguard.

Knuckles Nelson was in a tag team called the Brotherhood with Erich Sbraccia and was all over the place in the mid-ninties. I want to say that he runs his own fed or school now.

I think for Lance Carleson, you mean Lane Carlson, who became Lenny Lane.

I remember a match where The Giant wrestled Lenny Lane, Scott DeMar and Joey Maggs and pinned all three at the same time.

Big Al - no South Park jokes

Wasn't this the short live WCW gimmick of former ECW wrestler 911? As mentioned, they used it again a few years later in the Tank Abbott thing.

Maxx

If memory serves, this was the gimmick of DDP's bodyguard, Maxx Muscle after he turned face, jobbed a lot, then vanished off the face of the earth.

T. Rantula was an indy guy with long black hair. Don't know if he was the same guy as in WCW.

911 was known as both Tombstone and Big Al

I believe he fought the Giant on a Philly Nitro as Big Al and jobbed to the chokeslam.

I'm sure the crowd was aghast...

I was there for that match! Of course, I was still part mark at that time. I think Saturn won the TV title that night as well.

Anyways........

Rick Fuller- big dude built like a brick shithouse. I vaguely remember him doing the job to Luger on Nitro a couple times.

Ron Fuller-zuh?

Tombstone- ECW'S 911.......good career move bud.

Roadblock-basically just a big fat guy. I also remember him doing jobs for Lex, also for The Giant.

Billy Pearl-no clue

Ron Powers-no clue]

Top Gun-nope, no idea

Galaxy - can't help ya

Maxx-wasn't this the guy who was DDP's bodyguard? After DDP turned face he was in the Dungeon Of Doom briefly, then faded away, and deservedly so.......did not know a wristlock from a wristwatch

Knuckles Nelson-heard of him, I think he worked (works?) Northeast indies.

T. Rantula-another guy who I believe worked (works?) Northeast indies

Sick Boy-member of the Flock, had two moves that I remember.....a springboard clothesline (which he always botched) and he was the first WCW guy to steal the Pedigree. Later was under a WWF developmental deal as Scott Vick.

David Moore-no idea

Scott DeMar-who?

Big Al - name was used for 911, then for some jabroni who was fed to Tank Abbott at a Superbrawl I believe. Tank threatened to "FUCKING KILL HIM" and pulled out a big knife. Hilarious stuff.

Lance Carleson-no recollection

Lance Ringo-never heard of him

I presume the next three are tag teams...

The Extreme-Devon Storm (Crowbar) and Ace Darling

The Texas Hangmen/Disorderly Conduct-Weren't these two the same team? Jobbers.........

Ron Powers- generic big man who was a JTTS, had a black beard if i remember correctly , WCW WorldWide Specialist

Roadblock- the former Rochester Roadblock I believe, he had a HUGE push in the detriot (?) indies in the late 80's early 90's and the Apter mags talked about the WWF having interest in him at the time...

Galaxy - No clue, but a Luchadore named Galaxy was part of the WWF's AAA invasion during early 97

I believe "Scott DeMar" is in fact Scott D'Amore, longtime jobber for WWF and canadian-born wrestler, often appeared on Off The Record.

Roadblock had the most intriguing finisher; a belly-flop over the top rope, into a quasi-moonsault onto the opponent.

The funny thing about Maxx Muscle is that he played the part of DDP's bodyguard, while being SHORTER than Dallas. I dunno. I'd kinda want the guy who covers my back to be at least twice my size. I dunno, it's just me ...

Hell yeah, man. Dead End! He beat Randy Savage once.

Yeah Maxx was in the Dungeon of Doom for a while and was really rather generic.

Oh, leave DDP alone. He had Dys-"SCUM"-Lexia and was probably too busy trying to read "The "SCUM" Cat in the "SCUM" Hat" to notice that Maxx "SCUM" Muscle was shorter.

And reading that list of nobodies and Godawful gimmicks, how did WCW win the Monday "SCUM" Night Wars?
