Guest Report post Posted April 1, 2002 Guys, even with the editions of Eddy and Rey Rey, with the talent the WWF has right now, can they have a decent Cruiserweight division?
Guest EI Cubano Report post Posted April 1, 2002 I posted this at the Slash forums in regard to Lance Storm but it applies here too so let's cut and paste! I really don't think that the WWF should stick Lance Storm in the cruiserweight division or Christian for that matter. As heelish as it is to say to a "smart" fan, the cruiser division is a compliment to the heavyweight division and is basically filler for all any promotion or the average fan is concerned. Sticking Lance Storm, a guy who has the ability to get over and did an exceptional job of doing so in a WCW where almost no one was accepted by the fans, in the cruiser division is just severly limiting his potential. Lance Storm can be a main event heel or even face some day and limiting him to a division that is basically understood to be undercard relief will do nothing but most likely cripple him in the long run just like Chris Jericho's WCW career was limited when he spent too much time in the division. This isn't Japan and unfortunately cruiserweight wrestling has never drawn extraordinarily well in the states, particularly WWF Lightweight wrestling which hasn't drawn a single bit of money or interest in 15 years. The WWF has the roster to turn that around and only time will tell if they actually do so. The division should be centered around Jason Jett (EZ Money) at the outset in my opinion as he is easily one of the flashiest and most over cruisers in quite some time using a unique sense of crowd involvement that made him the hottest thing in WCW in the 4 weeks before it died. Shannon Moore, Jamie Knoble, Shane Helms, Scotty 2 Hotty, Rey Rey, Tajiri, Kidman, X-Pac,Taka, Funaki, Shark Boy, AJ Styes and others are already under WWF/WWF developmental contracts and rumor has it even more cruisers are coming in with the host of new developmental deals the WWF is on the verge of inking. Mike Sanders, The Hardys, Lance Storm, Edge, Christian and Eddy Guerrero have way too much main event potential to be used as role players and thus should stay away from the ranks. The division can be a success if used right, lets hope it is.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted April 1, 2002 Yes, if they bring up the developmental talent and if they book long, clean matches. They also need to give the Crusiers decent --> good angles. "Anything thing could happen in the WWF!"
Guest Downhome Report post Posted April 1, 2002 Well for starters, I'm almost sure that Eddie will be going to RAW, not Smackdown where the Cruisers will be at. I've heard Eddie will be right in there in the IC division, so, that's that. Anyhow... ...yes, the WWF could POTENTIALLY have the greatest Cruiserweight division ever, if they do it right. The fact that they are planning on making Heat a Cruiserweight show all of its own is a great start. Add in their signing of Rey Mysterio Jr. and the rumor of them signing Super Crazy and talks of them interested in Jerry Lynn once again. Then put into factor, all of the talent from the WCW sale they have under contract like Chavo, Jammie Noble, etc... and we have the makings for some great stuff. The only question is, if the WWF is willing to "baby" this division, and make it work. Only time will tell, and I'm betting on hell yes it will work... ...I hope, lol. Guest Brian Report post Posted April 1, 2002 My two cents: Unless the cruiserweights are allowed to work their own styles and not conform, they will never reach any heights and probably won't succeed.
Guest Report post Posted April 1, 2002 Bower, where do you see the Cruiserweight division going? I mean, with all these so called "pushes" going on, will be able to see more than just 5 minute matches between these guys?
Guest X-Factor Corperation Report post Posted April 1, 2002 I hope Eddie is on Smackdown. It looks like the WWF will push the cruserweights, as there were signs on Metal.
Guest EI Cubano Report post Posted April 1, 2002 From the sounds of it, Smackdown isn't going to be the cruiser vehicle anymore which is why the WWF is now going to make Heat a cruiser only broadcast. Smackdown has way too much heavyweight talent to focus a great deal on the cruisers and I really don't think that the cruisers will be part of one roster or the other. I could see them on Heat, maybe on match a peice on Raw and Smackdown and PPV blowoffs if fueds develop, but no cruisers set to a specific show. While the creative team simpy won't have the creative energy to successfully push everyone on all the rosters, cruisers are unique in that traditionally the cream rises to the top and they will get over on their own. Jason Jett has WWF style written all over him as does Shannon Moore. Sure they need programs and reasons to be fueding though and hopefully the WWF will give them that. Guest Shockmaster Report post Posted April 1, 2002 cruiserweights in the wwf are a lost cause. who really gives a fuck in the wwf about how many times jr rants on about how hes such an advocate of the division on wwf.com. even if the division does come to be they'll just be six man spot fests jerking the curtain of every card, with no build up or mike time they just be faceless luchas like super crazy with the only people getting pops being the reasonably established wrestlers like tajiri and xpac (god forbid).this was evident with jerry lynn when he 'won' the title in his first match, on heat no less given crappy mike time on a ppv from wwf new york then never heard of again until being abruptly fired , what a waste.
