Inside Sportscenter

Being a person who would like to find himself at ESPN in the future, that special "inside look" at the behind-the-scenes happenings on Sportscenter was damn interesting. Plus, Kenny Mayne took a spill running through the hallway, so that's always entertaining.

For those who didn't see it, ESPN2 had the Sportscenter you'd normally see, but ESPN had a bunch of cameras all around the building showing everyone prepping segments, editing video and the like. You could also hear the producers talking to the anchors and guys like Kenny Mayne and Stewart Scott talked to them during breaks. It was awesome to see all the activity that goes on in that hour.

I really like the show and really did go totally in depth in what it takes to run a good show. Good insight into a world that most of us would never see.

I caught most of it. Entertaining to see once. Although I'm disliking Spotscenter more and more these days

Sports Night was very cool, even though it was a SportsCenter sitcom....

YNA, why are you down on SC?

It was pretty interesting. Definitly the coolest part for me was finding out that the Baseball Tonight and Sportscenter sets are in the same room and face each other. Just think how distracting it must be for Gammons, Reynolds and Co. to have to see and hear all the SC crew getting ready while they are trying to do a live show.

Fuck, I forgot all about that. I meant to tape it, seeing how I was off being discriminated against at work.

I've been to the Bristol stuidos, and been in the old studio, while they were building the new one. Sportscenter, Baseball Tonight, NFL Countdown, all taped in one room that's a lot smaller then you would think it is. Their new studio appears to be multi-level and whatnot, and significantly larger, but I doubt it's as large as TV makes it out to be.

It's stupid...but this is what pushed me over the edge.

I was watching a show and I know everyone has a dumb little catchphrase. And when a big play happened the guy call the show said "Everybody put your hands together for Tenacious D"...

That's a fucking catchphrase?! I thought it might have been a slip but I've heard the bastard say it over and over again...that pisses me off way more then it should, but it does.

Ahough I'm sure the show was interesting, I am sick and tired of ESPN and other sports shows/channels making themselves into the show rather than the players, teams and coaches they are supposed to be focusing on. This might seem like nit-picking, but how many segments have we seen on Sportscenter that were nothing more than comedy skits starring Kenny Mayne or Stuart Scott? And as much as I like PTI and Around the Horn, consider what those shows really are; Shows by the media starring other media. As an aspiring journalist I've never felt like I needed to be "the show" and I get annoyed when reporters/anchors can't resist the urge to make themsleves the stars of the show. I can see where it's enticing -- you spend all this time putting the spotlight on guys like Barry Bonds and Shaq and MJ, and you want a little shine yourself. But still, it's aggravating.
