That sounds like its going to be an awesome show. I've never seen Fetus, but I saw Skinless last fall while they were on tour with Six Feet Under. They were really good. I talked to their vocalist for a while. Very cool guy.

Call me crazy but Do these METAL/Hardcore bands really need to have these "Sick and Dark" names like Dying Fetus and Anal Cunt?

It's a bad stereotype for Metal Music.

It may be a stereotype, but one of the main themes of the genre is about gore, violence, and nihilism, so it goes along.

Sure but look at Band Names like

"Shadows Fall"

"Motorhead"

Are those raw and abrasive names? No and that means you can be HARDCORE rock without having to resort to sick names...

Let's face it...names like Dying Fetus just REEKS of attention seeking whores.

Dying Fetus could have a "normal" sounding name and it wouldn't matter, they are Grindcore and the name means nothing as far as to who is going to like it. I guess it adds affect.

That's all well and good...and I enjoy Dying Fetus...but It's always been a peeve of mine looking at the Hardcore/Metal/Hard Rock bands and the names that accompy bands and it just kinda annoys me.

I am not sure how it is "attention seeking" I mean a name like that will just about gurantee you aren't getting played on any radio station, even if the music was nu-metal. Most name coincide with the themes in the lyrics and songs. Therefore you can't sing about disgusting things if your name is the "rosy red tootsie pops" well techincally you still could, but yah, you know.

No I mean a Name like that will make people go "HUH?"...a name to grab your attention one way or other...

I didn't mean get Radio and MS attention

Well I understand, but if you like that type of music the name of the band is meaningless unless there is a specific message behind it. Just like if you don't like the music, the name doesn't mean shit.

"Backstreet Boys" made me go "huh?" when I first heard it. A lot of names are weird, maybe not gross like Metal names, but just "out there" weird.

Well yeah BACKSTREET kinda threw me off...Cuz I was thinking of somthing totally different then what the actual meaning was....

I still say as long as it's not something "cool" and "Popular" like Sum41.

It just sounds right that death metal bands have killer names. Like could you imagine a band playing a song like "Forcefed broken glass" without a name like Cannibal Corpse?

There's some metal and hardcore band names that aren't something like "Gorguts", and some that make you go..what the fuck?

Namely,

Nasum

Mastodon

Cephalic Carnage

Neck

Agoraphobic Nosebleed

Prong

Nile

It's just a coincidence that a lot of the people who like this type of music like to name their bands after dark things.

Maybe they do name their bands in such a manner to get attention, but what's wrong with that? After all, they have to make money and sell records somehow, and death metal isn't exactly commercial radio's favorite genre. Names like Dying Fetus will ensure that they'll at least get noticed.

I didn't say it wasn't good...

I was just saying it seems like some bands are coming up with outlandish and "shocking" names just for the sake of doing such and that just annoys me

If it makes you feel any better choken, my grim thrash black metal band is called Annex. Named more as a mission statement then to shock or get noticed i guess.

He's only grim if he's wearing corpsepaint and sacrificing christians at the frozen obsidian altar of Belial.

I've been in several bands, most of which sucked, with names varying from "Insides Out" to "Frolicking Loins."

Concert was good. Brutal as expected. Skinless had the crowd split into two sides and just charge the fuck out of each other. It is sunday evening and I still am feeling bumped and bruised. Oh and I was pretty drunk.

I honestly think a name like "Nile" kills "Dying Fetus". Its simple, its unique and well frankly it just sounds cool. Dying Fetus reeks of stereotype is all.

They did that when I saw them. The singer said it's called an "east coast/west coast connection or something like that. I saw them on a Sunday night and I was hurting till Thurs.
