Guest Mikey2Dope Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 http://www.davisdvd.com/News/daily_news.htm Menu Screen Here's a case where it sucks to be us: despite the commentary track that was recorded with director John Carpenter and star Roddy Piper, Universal has apparently decided not to include it on their October release of They Live. You can confirm this by checking out the menus for this disc here. The commentary track, along with a short featurette, are available on the Momentum Pictures DVD released in the UK last year. Similarly, Momentum's UK release of Prince of Darkness has a solo commentary from Carpenter, and I fear that this track also won't be available here in the States. I just can't understand that. You have a commentary track and featurette already done and you choose NOT to put them on?!? Man I swear sometimes it's like these companies just love to piss of the fans. Either that or we'll get the extras on They Live: The Special Limited Collector's Super Duper Tricked Out Extreme Edition.

There are literally hundreds of American/Canadian DVDs that make their way over here wihout the commentaries, featurettes and Easter Eggs that they already had. Why were they taken off? God knows why. At least with commentary tracks like this, you know it's probably due to some licensing or rights issue that only allows the track to be distributed in Region 2, but why should every DVD company decide not to include a DTS audio track on an R2 release when it had one on the R1? Why should we get releases fullscreen when the R1 was anamorphic? All I'm saying is, don't whinge about it - get importing. That's what we have to do. There's shedloads of importers out there who'll send R2 products your way. Oh, and incidentally, our version of They Live has got framing issues, so while it may have a commentary, the transfer isn't perfect, though I'll bet yours is fully and correctly anamorphic.
Guest eiker_ir Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 shit, well, i'll be getting it anyway, i don't see it beign re-released with more extras any time soon
Guest Crucifixio Jones Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Yeah, I'm surprised they're even bothering to re-release it. That's a good thing, though, seeing as how I don't have the first (probably now OOP) release.
Guest NoCalMike Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Something tells me that the commentary finds it way onto a new version of the dvd in a year or so.
