Hello, out there everybody……This week in my wonderful It’s my opinion……I could be wrong column, I think I will touch on a number of things instead of just one. Soooooooo heeeeeeeeerrrrrrreeeee weeeeeeeee go!!!!!!!

This past Sunday I sat down and watched the first Smackdown brand endeavor in Vengence 2003. I must say that for a show that I didn’t think looked overly awesome, I sure was impressed. The main event rocked, with Kurt taking the title. I was actually surprised by the result of a WWE main event? The world must truly be coming to an end and fast. But honestly, and I think most would agree that Benoit/Guerrero was DEFINITELY the match of the night and is without doubt a match of the year candidate. The tag title match was solid as well. I really do see TWGTT getting better and better each week, and having them team against guys like Mysterio/Kidman isn’t gonna hurt anything either. Also, I have heard a lot of complaining about the Gowen/Vinnie Mac match and that is warranted. But man was it gratifying watching Vince get his head busted open like that. GOOD FOR YOUR ASS VINCE!!!! Sorry, now that I got that off my chest here are match ratings for Vengeance 2002:

 

Angle vs. Lesner vs. Big Show - ****1/4

Gowen vs. Vince - **1/2, this gets extra points cause of Vinnie’s little head trauma

TWGTT vs. Kidman/Mysterio - ****

Cena vs. Undertaker -*** - sorry, I mark for Cena

Sable vs. Steph- Zero – This was the black eye of the PPV

APA Invitational brawl -*** - Entertaining

Noble vs. Suck(Gunn) -*** - Surprisingly not bad.

Benoit vs. Guerrero – ***** - classic

 

I was thinking of something to rant about this week and I have sure as hell been thinking hard about it. I was so pleased with the PPV this Sunday it kinda took all the steam out of my ranting for the week. But then I decided to sit down and watch the clusterfuck (pardon my language) of a show called RAW. Wow, the brand extension looks incredibly uneven after an awesome PPV by the Smackdown brand. I really did have good expectations of RAW because the PPV was so good. I thought that they might “step it up” to make the brands look more even. But hell, the opening of RAW was Vince again. Why the hell is it that Vince more recognizable as an authority figure on BOTH shows than the respective GM’s? Vince is watering himself down sooooo much week after week by doing this. He shouldn’t even be on camera as I think his character is too stale and needs a little repackaging or needs to be taken off TV. Shane also made a return to TV this week, and was his first appearance in quite some time. I read an interesting point about his return that had the old wheel’s turning and thought I would share it with everyone. Somebody had said, “How is it that Shane comes back and puts up a hell of a fight with Kane, and lays him out…….that is when RVD is booked to look weak to Kane”? My sentiments exactly,WTF? That is the only thing I can say to the RAW booking committee. I mean the shows are really really bad. The Tag Champions are a very poor version of an 80’s gimmick, and that is really saying something. The Intercontinental Champion is a good one, but is booked terribly and not put in ANY hot feuds. But of course the biggest travesty of all is that Triple H is STILL the World Champion. Nothing and I mean NOTHING is exciting on RAW. HBK vs. Y2J from two weeks ago gave me hope. That’s all it gave me. I thought the match was about ***1/2, but I should have realized that they would give us nothing but crap following what wasn’t a bad RAW. But basically all I want to know is this, don’t they realize that SD is definitely the better show. I mean look at the facts. They had a WOMEN’s match was basically the main event. Yep, that’s where that WTF came into play. But now my rants over and I wish everybody an awesome weekend! PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!!!!!!!! Remember too that is just my opinion………I could be wrong.

While I agree with most of the things you said about Raw, I have a question about your ratings for Vengeance:

 

Angle vs. Lesner vs. Big Show - ****1/4

#1--You seem to have a pretty easy standard for *****. Keep in mind that ***** is supposed to be as PERFECT as can be, and I don't know how this match could be that with the ending it had. I personally say it's about ****/****1/4, a great match, but ***** seems a bit high to me. How many ***** matches have you seen?

 

#2--I though that Sable vs. Steph was better than Noble vs. Gunn and the A.P.A. Invitational (and Vince vs. Gowen too, but I seem to be in the extreme minority there). It was short, it was intense, and there was no rest. Non-stop weak brawling > Slow and plodding weak brawling in the APA match.

 

#3--I'm torn for Match of the Night between the US title match and the Tag title match, and I'm leaning towards the Tag title match due to it having a solid finish. Comparatively to how you've rated everything else, I think you've given the tag match a bum deal (though **** is about where I'd rate it if this was my scale).

Keep in mind that it was ***** on WWE terms only. It's a long way from Flair/Steamboat, DK/TM, Bret/Owen (WMX)......

What is ***** on WWE standards?

 

5* is 5*. If the match is perfect and you find no flaws with it- shouldn't it be 5* regardless of the federation?
