Guest Report post Posted April 1, 2002 I personally don't get along well with many western games. They tend to rely on gimmicks and graphichs to pull you in, but developers do not concentrate on fundamentals such as tight controls or a coherent and consistent game world. I like the way, for example, a Japanese adventure title will take you through it, metal gear for example. When it comes to storyline driven games, i cannot stand getting stuck, wandering around for ages trying to figure out what the hell to do. Japanese games subtly (when done well) take you through the games story as to not lose you with the plot by making you forget what happened because you are on level 6 for so long. Also Japanese games have shitloads more monkeys as a rule of thumb.
Guest Report post Posted April 1, 2002 Since most games released in Japan have something improved on them before coming to the U.S., I guess I'd have to say western gaming. But, Japanese developers usually give the buyers what they want as U.S. developers do what they want with the game and just see how it turns out.
