Guest Stennick Report post Posted August 4, 2003 Let me explain myself, I just recently made a bullshit movie with some of my best friends, well it turns out everyone I show this movie to wants to buy a copy, and it turns out that since I was already looking into getting a DVD burner I figure why not, get this thing on DVD, get some extra shit on there and then sell this thing for a decent price. So with that being said heres what I need to know. I'm looking to get DVD burning software extremely soon, before I buy it though I need to figure a few things out about what DVD burners can do what. 1. If I want to make this look good, is there any way I can upload deleted scenes, interviews things like that? 2. How do Chapters work, can I create my own chapters name them what I want and what not? 3. Directors commentary, this is almost a must for me, I will do whatever it takes to be able to add a commentary to this thing. Everytime I watch it I find myself going into long stories about the characters or how hard it was to shoot a certain scene. I'd love to take me and the "star" of the movie, sit us down and have us do a feature commentary is any of this possible. 4. How much video time can a DVD hold, I know my dad's can only hold 2 hrs worth, is there any that can hold MORE than two hours? 5. Time wise how long will it take to burn it from VHS to DVD, does it upload onto my computer and then download onto the DVD, so once I get the information on my computer, I can make a second one in half the time? Or does it not work like this? 6. Is there any place I can call IE: a store, that can answer any questions you guys cannot? Sorry for all the questions but I am extremely serious about this and appreicate any help what so ever! Lata All, Stennick
Guest JMTapes Report post Posted August 5, 2003 Ok, I may not have all of the answers you're looking for, but I just want to say a couple of things. To do VHS to DVD transfers is a pain. After grabbing the footage, you have to encode it and make sure it is of a high enough quality to put on a DVD. Encoding video can take HOURS sometimes, even with a fast computer. Then making the menus, chapters, layers etc. is a whole other story. I'm not trying to discourage you, I'm just trying to make you aware that making DVDs can sometimes be a pain in the balls. Have a nice day!!!
Guest Stennick Report post Posted August 5, 2003 Yeah I know it can be, I've heard stories, if it was just some bullshit VHS home video then I wouldn't bother, I did shoot it with a Sony HI 8 video tape so quality shouldn't be a problem, its not persay VHS its going to be HI 8 video tape onto the computer if that makes a difference at all. Thanks for the input though. Lata All, Stennick
Guest I'm That Damn Zzzzz Report post Posted August 5, 2003 (edited) http://www.dvdrhelp.com Though making SVCDs would be much cheaper and you can get very good quality and upto an hour on each disk. Edited August 5, 2003 by I'm That Damn Zzzzz
