Guest Shanghai Kid Report post Posted August 5, 2003 You guys are underrating Vick. He's faster than Kordell, and has a stronger arm than almost any running qb that's come before him. The player I'd compare him to is Randell Cunningham. But Vick has so much upside. Last year was his first year as a starter, and he was a legit MVP candidate. He also his took an average team to the playoffs and made history by beating the Packers in their home. Not to mention his outrageously awesome Interception ratio. Mcnabb might be better for the next year or two, but Vick has so much more upside. Theirs a reason why people think he's going to go be the greatest football player of all time. Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted August 5, 2003 I think Vick's TD/INT ratio can be attributed to the fact that the Falcons had nothing in their offense that was complicated. It was basicall, if a guy is wide open throw if not run. They won't be able to survive with that system this year. I think he will be great, an MVP candidate. I don't think he is going to throw for 4000 and run for 1000. And I am going to hold off most of my judgements til I see him with some talent (this year) win a game against a great D (Tampa and Philly owned him last year.) And the Packers were awful the end of last year, and that game was won by defense and special teams not Vick.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 5, 2003 Cunningham is a great comparison but We threw the Kordell and Blake comparisons because they were two slashing QB's that got ruined because they never got the full package caught to them...Which Vick will. Guest notJames Report post Posted August 5, 2003 Thanks for the input, gents. It helped put a lot of perspective on this situation. I'm still a little undecided, but by draft day, I should be okay. In regards to my "franchised" player, here's the 411: I'm taking over a team for a guy who couldn't do the FF league this year. We're allowed to keep one player from last season (the" franchise"). Whether or not I have to keep him for the entire season is something I have to ask the commish. Basically, this guy had William Green, Jeff Garcia and not a whole lot else to choose from... and that includes Michael freakin' Pittman. Green is ranked 16th among the league's RBs and is a high prospect considering his second half performance last season. The top tier RBs will no doubt be franchised by the rest of the league, so I figured I'd keep Green and use my first round pick (2nd overall) to pick up Vick or McNabb. I could keep Garcia over Green, but I'd rather have a top prospect RB, a top-rated QB, and shore up the RB position with my 2nd or 3rd round pick (since I take advantage of the wrap), than go with Garcia (who is admittedly a top QB but not necessarily one I want to go for as my starter) and not have any top tier RBs to choose from. I know this might sound strange or stupid to some of you, but remember this is my first year doing FF, and I'm going on both my instincts and the advice of friends who have a lot more knowledge about the players than I do. If you think I'm certifiable for giving up Garcia, or think I could do better with some other scenario, please feel free to take me to school Just to reiterate, I have Green and Garcia as possible franchises, and I have the 2nd overall pick in a league of 12 teams. So my 1st rounder would be the #2 pick overall, my 2nd rounder would be the 23rd pick, my 3rd rounder would be the 26th pick, and so on. Thanks again for the help. Guest razazteca Report post Posted August 5, 2003 You should franchise Jeff Garcia instead of Green. Gracia will get more TDs than Green, its that simple. If you do not like him maybe you could trade him off for some players that you mark out for. Or better yet maybe you could work out a deal where you would trade your 1st round draft pick for 2nd & 3rd draft picks, just trade down.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted August 5, 2003 That changes things, I think. Keep Garcia, draft Vick, and swing whatever deal you can to get a top RB+. Again, you should probably get very good value for Vick, and Garcia is a good QB with a good receiving corps so that should serve you well.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted August 5, 2003 I would still probably make the trade for Deuce. He is one of the top 6 backs going into the year and a much safer bet than Green. Garcia is fine but there are 15-20 decent QBs this year. Trade a 3rd round pick for him, take Vick or McNabb first round and you could still probably get a Zereoue in the second round and he isn't too much of a downgrade from Green. Guest razazteca Report post Posted August 5, 2003 Might as well get Troy Hambrick in round 8, because you know how Parcells likes to run the ball 30 times a game. Or Foster of the Panthers as a sleeper if he can stay healthy.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted August 5, 2003 Panthers have Stephen Davis now so Foster is useless.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted August 5, 2003 McNabb puts up great fantasy points without having a #1 wide reciever on his team. Vick could be in for a sophomore slump, as everyone will be basically base the gameplan around stopping Vick rather than the Falcons as an offensive unit. Peerless Price is a good reciever, but double team or drop a safety in his zone and then what? He isn't playing opposite Eric Moulds anymore, so there is a lot more pressure there. Vick is one of those players that could just tear it up, or be merely average, there a lot of variables, but for christs sake McNabb played like a probowler with a damn broken ankle. Guest DrTom Report post Posted August 5, 2003 There's no way I would keep Garcia. Dennis Erickson is his coach this year, and if Erickson has shown anything in his previous time in the NFL, it's that he can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. Don't take the chance that he's going to drag Garcia down with him. Let someone else run that risk.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 5, 2003 I'd take McNabb. Even if everything goes well for Vick, It will be at least one more season until Vick is the best QB playing. Of course knowing you passed on Vick when he lives up to that potential will hurt. However, you'd still have a top 5 QB with McNabb, so it wouldn't be that bad.
