Guest Choken One Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 What about the Pit Crew? Would you consider them atheletes? It's hard to, because they're really an auxiliary portion of the competition (NOT sport), and though their work is incredible, they're just a side act, and the competition (NOT sport) is really more between the actual racers than the full teams. So I consider them really good mechanics. I wish my mechanics could change the tires...Fill the Tank...Wipe the windshields and make Wedge Adjustments in 13.7 seconds... Save me a LOT of time at Goodyear. Well just drive onto a track like Homer Simpson. No thread can go with out a Simpsons reference can they?
Guest Anglesault Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 Plus sports are competitive events, NASCAR is a competition. And it takes alot of physical and mental stamina to be a NASCAR driver. Chess. You drive a car, but you don't drive a car for hours at a time at 180 mph trying to pass people doing the same thing. That'll make me lose weight? If Chess is played on a competitive level then it becomes a sport. Plus it requires a ton of mental stamina. . There's non-competitive chess?
Guest Choken One Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 It is when you play me < Fucking Sucks at chess.
Guest Anglesault Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 It is when you play me < Fucking Sucks at chess. I can't even play checkers
Guest Choken One Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 Checkers? Hell my dog can play checkers...and beat me.
Guest JHawk Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 The problem with checkers is nobody I play with is gullible enough to give up their final piece. Frustrating, really. If ESPN2 airs checkers, does that become a sport?
Guest Choken One Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 actually they did once I'm pretty sure... What about Karate?
Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 Well at least I can go to bed tonight knowing that Choken One and I have agreed on something. And Karate when done as a competition, and not just practice, is a sport
Guest Choken One Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 Nope...refer to Carlin's rules... It's the same deal as Boxing.
Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 Nope...refer to Carlin's rules... It's the same deal as Boxing. So this argument is now based on "Carlin's Rules"? Sweet.
Guest The Metal Maniac Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 Did I miss something in that Carlin bit, or did he just NOT mention wrestling? I mean, it's the bare essence of sport - and he misses it? Bah.
