Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted August 5, 2003 http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/n...news/story6.htm Residents evacuated as new forest fire ignites in BC Aug 1 (TWN)-Firefighters are scrambling to control a fast-moving forest fire north of Kelowna, British Columbia. Last night, the blaze forced the evacuation of residents from 30 homes in the nearby community of McLure. High winds and blistering hot temperatures have fanned the blaze to an estimated 2,500 hectares. Power is out in and around McLure, the Yellowhead Highway through the community has been closed, and the nearby C-N Railway line has also shut down. Now 1,800 residents from nearby Barriere are being told to prepare for possible evacuations on a moment's notice. "The fire started in McLure yesterday. At this point in time we know that three structures have been lost. We don't know if those are houses or outbuildings, but three structures are confirmed lost," says B.C. Fire Information Officer Steve Bachop. "The fire is now burning on the west side of the North Thompson River as well, so it's going to challenge our suppression efforts today." Temperatures are still in the mid thirties in the south Okanagan and south Interior, and Bachop says there's no significant precipitation expected in the southern third of British Columbia over the next ten days. Meantime, the forest fire burning near Chilko Lake for about a week has grown to over 12,000 hectares in size, says Bachop. The "Farewell Creek" forest fire also continues to burn in northern Washington State near the Canadian border just south of BC's Cathedral Provincial Park. ----------------------------------- Now, I don't think the SmackDown taping is in serious jeopardy (given Vince's "The show must go on" mentality, if nothing else)...but would this affect transportation in the surrounding area at all? Guest Nobody in Particular Report post Posted August 5, 2003 It'll be just fine. Those fires are quite a ways away. I know Kurt and Sable were in town yesterday (they were shown on the news), so transportation definitely isn't an issue. Though it wouldn't surprise me if the fires did cancel the Kamloops show last night.
Guest Mikey2Dope Report post Posted August 5, 2003 I'm pretty sure that's an error on that website as it should read: Firefighters are scrambling to control a fast-moving forest fire north of Kamloops, British Columbia. I'm closer to McClure (I'm in Vernon) and I'm 40 minutes away from Kelowna.
Guest Nobody in Particular Report post Posted August 5, 2003 Hey, I'm in Vernon too. You gonna be at the show? I'll be right in front of the main camera myself.

Guest Lightning Flik Report post Posted August 5, 2003 To get rid of all of the heat? Couldn't Big Show just do that? Da-Dum-TAH! Um... Big Show's actually getting decent heat. Why not send out someone like La Resistance? I mean, don't they need some heat for themselves too? Can't let Orton be the ONLY flame eater.
