ChrisMWaters Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 A friend of mine who uses Austin in an E-Fed wanted to know the question I asked in the subtopic about the topic. I think it was because Austin didn't want to be associated with the corporate image the regular title was or something. Anyone have the answer?
Guest papacita Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 I think it was because Austin didn't want to be associated with the corporate image the regular title was or something. That was pretty much it from what I remember. It was pretty much an act of non-conformity, although they didn't really make much of an issue about it until he lost it at Breakdown.
Guest Steve J. Rogers Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 I don't think there ever was an actual on-air reason for the smoking skull belt being made. Just Austin doing his thing I think they were planning to make more customized versions of the title for various "big names" who they had planned to put the title on during that era, reason being they were selling replica belts with Undertaker's symbol and The Rock's Brahma Bull logos on them. Steve
Guest Tony149 Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 The closest thing to an explaination was on the SCSA video Hell Yeah, where he said it was a "fuck you to Vince". IIRC, the only other WWE wrestler who came close to their own belt was The Rock in 2000. I think a belt was made but never used. Or I may be thinking of a title design being drawn but never used.
Guest Stunt Granny Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 Good, custom made belts are stupid.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 I do remember the Ultimate Warrior having different colored straps for his belt when he was the champ. I remember him wearing both pink and purple.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 HBK used both black and white straps for the IC Title at points... and i know other guys have had different color straps for titles at various points... I think Goldust had the ALL GOLD IC Title...
ChrisMWaters Posted August 5, 2003 Author Report Posted August 5, 2003 YEah...but straps aren't exactly the same...as the buckle and plates remain the same. Austin's Smoking Skull belt was a completely different design and everything.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 Custom Belts are not stupid... it adds personality to the title reign and makes it mean something that they would actually...in kayfabe...go out of their way to pay to have a new belt made just for them to show it off

Also, bear in mind that when Beltster [and possibly other beltmakers] create new belts for the WWE, they aren't allowed to confirm their existence unless they show up on WWE TV [like the recent creation of the WWE US belt, for instance....that belt was made months in advance.]
LaParkaYourCar Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 No custom belts are stupid because the idea basically only fit Austin at the time. Taker having one would have just been stupid. Rock I might have seen, but it would still come off as dumb.
Guest PhantMan Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 no exactly. imagine Taker beating austin for his belt and then claiming he owns a piece of stonecold.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 I hate custom belts. I hated the smoking skull version of the title.
Guest The Old Me Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 no exactly. imagine Taker beating austin for his belt and then claiming he owns a piece of stonecold. That's ghey.
Guest nWoScorpion Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 I didnt even realize the Smoking Skull belt existed until the near end of Austins first reign. lol <---Didn't give a DAMN.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 Also, on the Hell Yeah video, Austin mentions that when he gave Vince the Stunner the night after WrestleMania XIV, the new belt (1998-2002) jumped up off his shoulder and cut his chin open.

Actually, that title was the rarely seen "Block Logo Attitude" belt. Same as the Attitude belt, but with a dark blue strap, and the block WWF logo on it.
Guest The Old Me Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 I'll always be partial to the belt in your avatar. ^
ChrisMWaters Posted August 6, 2003 Author Report Posted August 6, 2003 I'll always be partial to the belt in your avatar. ^ Heh...yeah. Most people are, I think. They should bring it back if they unify the two top belts again...but with the following improvements: 1) Logo change 2) Little larger...about the size of the Attitude Belt should work 3) NAMEPLATE!
Guest Stunt Granny Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 I liked the Attitude Era belt. Just when I got used to it they went and changed it. Find a design and GO WITH IT!
