Concert recaps continue..

That was a pretty damn good rock concert, overall. The drive from Indiana was a motherfucker, and we made a fatal miscalculation when we all completely spaced the fact that OH is a different time zone, so we were an hour behind. However, due to the fact that no show starts on time, we arrived when they were still letting the huge line in.

Venue was cool, The Newport Music Hall, right on the campus of OSU. It was very small, looked very old and fairly run down, in a good way, and the sound system was excellent. Pretty mellow crowd for the most part, but not as many girls as I was hoping for. Maybe about 6 or 7 hundred people by my estimation. Anyway..

Lacuna Coil did not impress at all, and I gathered absolutely nothing from their set aside from the fact that they're from Europe, and that everyone in the band is awful aside from the female vocalist. I don't know her name, and I'm unfamiliar with the material, but she was busting ass while the band was sleepwalking. A pity, too, because she didn't sound half bad. They did the often tried and perpetually failed "moody" metal sound, getting waaaaaaay too into it when all the music was really pedestrian and didn't evoke any feelings from the crowd at all, aside from "When's Type O coming on?" They also did a song in Italian. Whee.

Long-ass sweaty wait. This gave me the opportunity to look at the venue a little more. It had a balcony, a lower floor, and sort of a raised middleground around the floor, which was drenched in beer and sweat, making it slippery and treacherous. By the end of Type O's set, it was like a big slip 'n slide.

Type O was done up in surgical scrubs, which was pretty cute, considering several of the techs and roadies were wearing shirts that said "Brooklyn Hospital."

Setlist:

1. Unsuccessfully coping...

2. Wolf Moon

3. Anesthesia

4. Christian Women

5. Love you to Death

6. World Coming Down

7. Xero Tolerance/Prelude to Agony

8. I Don't Wanna Be Me

9. Kill All the White People

10. My Girlfriend's Girlfriend

11. Black Number One

That's from memory, so chances are, it's fucked up. The crowd was surprisingly docile throughout, aside from Kill all the White People, which got pretty crazy. I was sliding all over the floor.

Very strong set overall, with lots of little improv riffs, like a quick jam on Black Sabbath, some Jethro Tull, and Smoke On The Water. Not a whole lot of talking, Steele mostly made fun of himself, the crowd, and called guitarist Kenny Hickey "Phony Iommi," Which was pretty fuckin' funny, I thought. Josh Silver, on Keyboards, looked like he was about to fall over the entire show.

Great show from a very good band in an excellent venue. Well worth the 20 bucks I paid, and well worth the drive.

Hit up their official site for more tour dates if you're interested. I highly recommend it.

That was pretty much the same setlist they played when I just saw them. The only difference was instead of Anesthesia they played Everyone I Love Is Dead.

Lacuna Coil is good for pretty much just chilling out, or mood music if your girl is into that kind of stuff. Christina Scabbia is amazing though.

I'm fucking jealous of all you assholes on here who are getting to see the nice summer concert lineups, while I'm stuck in Buttfuck Alberta with no real great shows around. Although I'm going to the Lethbridge Deathfest in a few weeks. Should be.....interesting.

Anyway, good show review. Sounds like money well spent for sure, god knows Type O always delivers.

I read somewhere that surgical scrubs are there costume for this tour. It has to go with the medical theme of the album.

I should note just for fun...

The drummer is the former drummer for LOA.

That's All.

Have to inject some LOA in here somehow.

Good grief man its a good thing this place seems to be somewhat pro LOA territory, cuz I'm shocked people haven't vehemently attacked you for the whoring.

All those early New York roadrunner bands were inbred a lot anyway. Within all the bands in the scene that is...although I'm not too sure about Josh Silver...

Well...It's my gimmick...Just like CoreyLaz and S.F

I just choose a Obsecure early 90's band that doesn't exist anymore and Has a Album some call "One of the Few Metal Staples" and another one that has been considered one of the WORST albums recorded...

Incorrect. Sal was with Type O, and left to join LOA. Johnny Kelly replaced him.

AoO- were they wearing surgical scrubs when you saw them?

Check your peepers.

really? I could've SWORN he went back to Type O.

Well, technically, he did some backup vocals on the new album, but Kelly's been the drummer since he left.

Sal was a good drummer, but I think that Johnny's better. I'm also biased towards him because I met him at a show one time and wound up talking to him for a while/took pictures and he was a really nice guy. My friends have met everyone else in Type O and have only great things to say about them.

ah...That's where I got confused cuz I heard some report saying

"Former LOA Drummer returns to work with Type o Negative" and naturally I mistook that for thinking he re-joined them...
