Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I think Boston.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I voted Seattle. I like the A's to overtake them and I like Boston's chances with the moves Epstein made and that offense.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Seattle. They didn't help their team out and they were falling anyways... Oakland is a Second Half team with three great starters and a semi-decent offense... Seattle pitching is non-existant...and it's offense does not always come through... Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Boston doesn't have the starting pitching. Past history will also play more of a rule, than some people might think.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I think they have enough starting pitching for that offense. If the lineup starts to falter then they will absolutely miss the playoffs, but I don't see that happening.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Boston doesn't have the starting pitching. *Looks at 2002 Angels' starters* Oh yeah, with no good starting pitching, you won't go ANYWHERE in the playoffs.
Bored 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Boston doesn't have the starting pitching. *Looks at 2002 Angels' starters* Oh yeah, with no good starting pitching, you won't go ANYWHERE in the playoffs. Angels 2002 starter's ERA: 4.00; Red Sox starter's ERA: 4.39. Also we're talking about making it to the playoffs not what they do when they get there. Anyways I go with the Red Sox and also I'd prefer the A's win the West and the Mariners get the Wild Card so the A's can get the Royals or White Sox in the ALDS. In the end it really could go anyway and its a shame that not all four get in since the Central champ is obviously going to be a step below those four. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Look again. Anaheim's starters last year were pretty good. Better than Boston's this year.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I just went with a hunch, and voted Seattle. Also, if Seatlle makes the playoffs, it will be like years past. They might win a round, but their pitching staff will turn out to be not that great, and without any real dominant offensive threat, they won't get over the hump. Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Seattle -- because they faltered in the second-half last year, too...
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I think that Oakland will surge past Seatle again this year. They have 3 great starters and one who loks to be great (Hardan has only like 3 starts so it's too early to tell, a lot of guys surge out of the blocks and then fade). The Red Sox offense slumped for 4 games adn seems to be back in form again. Once Walker and Millar get hot again the team will at teh very least get the Wild Card, unless Pedro, Nomar, and Manny go down. The Yanks will be there and lose in the first round again. (One can only hope) As far as Chi and KC go I don't really care. Neither one of them deserve to get in considering the records of the four teams in the poll being much better. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I just see a losing mentality with the Red Sox franchise. I don't think it will be as easy to shake off has some think. Just call it a deep pessimism, I have with the Red Sox. To be fair. In most cases this has implied to the Sox failing to beat out the Yankees. That's why the pitching is the #1. reason, I don't think they'll make the playoffs.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Well, to be fair, none of the members of the 1978 or 1986 team are with the the 2003 Red Sox. That's like saying the 2002 Angels wouldn't win because of the Donnie Moore era team.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 6, 2003 The Angels didn't have the pressure last year, that the Red Sox do in most years.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted August 7, 2003 Boston: Oakland is 1/2 game back of the WildCard with 2 months to go. Unless they completely collapse, there is no way they aren't getting into the post season. As of now they are 3 out of the Division race. The A's are in a GREAT POSITION right now.
