Guest Texas Small Arms 09 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 What are your feelings towards Mark Cuban and his comments made to Access Hollywood about the Kobe Bryant case? If you haven't heard Mark told Access Hollywood that this case is good for business and will bring in more people.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Well...he was right. He said it himself...in the long, non-edited interview...that its sad that society is in the reality TV kick and this case brings a reality to the game. People will tune in to see how Kobe plays through the pressure or if he isn't there to see how his teamates will play. The opening game will be "Must See TV" now, and for all the wrong reasons. Just like he said. On a personal level, it is horrible, but for the NBA, it is good for business.
Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I think it's 100% on the money. I also think he shouldn't have said it. He did emphasize that he didn't think it was a good thing, both during and after the interview.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Anyone see him and Dan Patrick rip each other up last nite on SC? Patrick was PISSED that Cuban said "ESPN is senstationlizing the story more then any one else" and patrick fumbled with the old "It's our duty to report the news as it is" stand by..." Cuban was ON THE FUCKING MONEY. However...ESPN and USA TODAY hacked the actual un-edited interview...
Guest JangoFett4Hire Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I agree with what he said, but watch everyone take his comments out of context and make HIM the villain in this situation.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I think that he's 100% correct in saying that, I don't think that he was wrong to say it, and I don't think that he owes anyone an apology. It IS true that the average fan that otherwise wouldn't care to watch the NBA will now at least pay half attention. Can you imagine the hype and coverage that the first game with Kobe in it is going to get? It'll be the lead story on Sportcenter, it'll be news in places that don't even have a basketball team, it'll get more coverage than the defending world champions game will. Even I - who hasn't watched basketball in YEARS - will watch the beginning of the game to hear what the announcers say and hear the reaction from the fans. Guest Ripper Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I have seen some embarassing hack jobs of the interview. If you see it most places, it is almost like he is encouraging players to go allegedly rape people so the NBA will get more ratings. And he said nothing like that at all. Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Cuban is absolutely right! All he said was that the publicity would be a boost for the league INITIALLY! And in the long run the negative publicity would hurt but all of that was cut out and all that came out on the headlines was that Cuban says Kobe incident good for NBA! Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Will people really pay attention to the NBA in general, or just the Lakers and Kobe in general?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Cuban was right and I agree with him, but i can understand the argument that he shouldn't have said it. But as always regardless of what he says he'll be made out to be a total villian by the people with the ability to share their opinion. Sad that the best most fan friendly owner in the league is always made out to look like a monster, just because he shares his often controversal opinions. Guest notJames Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Will people really pay attention to the NBA in general, or just the Lakers and Kobe in general? Well, if you ask Bill Walton or the Commissioner Stern, they're one in the same.
Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted August 7, 2003 It's truly disgusting how Cuban is being treated. The media can't handle the fact that someone spoke the truth about the public's fascination with this kind of stuff (which the media has totally propagated), so they make him the bad guy and try to show him in the worst light possible out of spite. It stinks.
Guest ErekT2k Report post Posted August 7, 2003 I totally support Mark with his statements. Damn the media. And yea, El, it is sad that Cuban is being made out like a monster, when in my eyes, he's all for making his players happy and his fans happy. Plus he goes pretty psycho at Mav games. Kinda good compared to when you see other owners watching from their personal box, while Cuban is down there with the fanbase and cheering his ass off.
