Best Of WWF/WCW TV: July 1993 - September 1993

- I haven't done one of these in a LONG time, some I'm probably a little rusty.  Anyway, I don't have much to say, so lets get down to business.  This tape is available at www.members.aol.com/wrespowr and it is American Tape #123.  I will use star ratings for COMPLETE matches and the point system for EVERYTHING else.

WCW Main Event: July 25, 1993

- Clash Of The Champions 24 Report

Tony announces the lineup for the Clash on August 18.  The matches that are announced so far are:

*WCW Title: Vader vs. Davey Boy Smith (If Vader gets disqualified, he loses the title.)

*WCW Tag-Team Titles: Hollywood Blonds vs. Arn Anderson & Paul Roma (Return Match)

*WCW Television Title: Paul Orndorff vs. Ricky Steamboat

*Sting vs. Awesome Kong

*Rick Rude & Equalizer vs. Dustin Rhodes & A Mystery Partner

*Johnny B. Badd vs. Maxx Payne (The Mask vs. Norma Jean)

*Too Cold Scorpio vs. Steven Regal

*A Special "Flair For The Gold"

OK, now I'll clarify a few of the matches and feuds going into the Clash.  Vader had been on a path of destruction for months.  After destroying Cactus Jack on Saturday Night, Smith challenged Vader to a match at Slamboree.  Smith was about to win the title at Slamboree, but Vader used a chair to get the DQ and keep his title.  By the way, the match was ***.  Smith teamed up with Sting to take on Vader and Sid Vicious at Beach Blast, where Smith pinned Vader in the middle of ring. Moving on to the Tag-Title match, the Blonds beat Arn and Rome at Beach Blast, so this is just your basic return match.  Now, the tag match with Rude & The Equalizer vs. Rhodes & Mystery Partner, Rhodes and Rude has been fighting on and off for months now, so this match is just another one in their feud.  Clarification for the Badd-Payne match, Badd was wearing this ridiculous mask because Payne shot him in the face with his BaddBlaster (confetti gun) and Norma Jean was the name of Payne's guitar.  That should pretty much clear up everything. 0/1

- Bobby Eaton & Chris Benoit vs. Ric Flair & Arn Anderson

Flair is fresh off defeating Barry Windham at Beach Blast to win the NWA Title.  The match starts with Eaton and Anderson stalling a bit.  Eaton works on Arn in the corner, but Arn fights out with a big chop.  Eaton regroups, but Arn catches an armdrag and goes to work on the arm.  Eaton hits Arn with a cheapshot and gouges his face.  Benoit tags in and catches Arn with a beautiful dropkick.  Benoit stomps on Arn in the corner.  Benoit charges, but Arn gets his foot up.  Arn goes up to the top and gets crotched.  Benoit goes for a superplex, but Arn punches him off.  Arn flies off the top, but Benoit gets his knees up.  Benoit plants Arn and comes off the top with a flying headbutt, Flair comes in to break up the pin.  Flair tags in.  Benoit misses a dropkick as Flair holds the ropes.  Flair chops Benoit, Eaton tags in.  Eaton slaps Flair and gets chopped in the corner for his trouble.  Eaton leaves the ring and Flair continues to chop him outside of the ring.  Back in, Eaton gets a swinging neckbreaker and tags Benoit who hits a rude awakening.  Eaton chokes Flair, while the ref is with Arn.  Benoit chops Flair, who gets caught in the wrong corner.  Eaton tags in and all three men trade chops.  Eaton comes off the top with an elbowdrop and tags Benoit back in.  Benoit hits Flair with a legdrop from the second rope.  Flair comesback with an inverted atomic drop.  Flair goes for the Figure-Four, but Benoit small packages him for 2.  Eaton tags in and doesn't do much.  Benoit is back and chops Flair in the corner.  Quick tag to Eaton, who grapevines the neck.  Flair breaks out, as Benoit tags back in.  Benoit chops Flair out of the ring.  Back in, Eaton tags in and hits Flair with a vertical suplex.  Eaton flies off the top, but Flair connects with a right on his way down.  Flair makes the HOT tag to Arn, who opens up a can of whoop-ass on Eaton and Benoit.  Eaton nails Arn from behind and attempts to piledrvie him.  Meanwhile, Flair pushes Benoit off the top.  Eaton forgets about the piledriver and goes for Flair, but Arn catches him with a spinebuster for the pin.  (11:16) ***

- Dustin Rhodes Interview

Dustin talks about his mystery partner at the Clash.  He claims everyone, including Willie Nelson, has been asking him who it is.  Dustin's hint to Rude is, "You know him!"  Well, that shortens to the list to only the few hundred people Rude knows.  0/2

WWF Monday Night Raw: July 26, 1993

- Bret Hart vs. Bam Bam Bigelow (JIP)

We join this match with Bret dragging Bigelow's head across the top rope, as Stu & Helen Hart watch from the balcony of the Manhattan Center.  Bret headbutts Bigelow's lower back.  Hart catches him with a russian legsweep for 2.  Harts comes off the second rope with a clothesline for 2.  Hart jumps on Bigelow’s back and applies a sleeper.  Bigelow charges Bret headfirst into the top turnbuckle.  Hart comesback with a bulldog and goes for the Sharpshooter, but gets distracted when Jerry Lawler, with a mic, approaches his parents.  Lawler harasses Stu and Helen, who don't posses the same verbal skills as Lawler.  Bret goes over the rail, but Bigelow stops him and brings him back to the ring.  Lawler, "I just wanted to come down here and talk to the couple who produced more tragedies than Shakespeare.  How many kids do you have anyway?"  Helen, "12, well, how many kids does your mother have? None."  OK, Helen, meanwhile Bigelow smashes Bret's back against the ring post.  Lawler (to Stu, who just called him the self appointed King Of The Ring, aye)," Why don't you put your false teeth in backwards and eat yourself to death."  Helen uses her EXCELLENT verbal skills to make this comeback, "Why don't you just wrestle and keep your mouth closed."  YOU GO GIRL!  Bigelow continues to destroy Bret in the ring.  Bigelow sends Bret sternum first into the corner for 2.  Bigelow hits Bret with a senton.  Lawler, "I bet when you two were young the Dead Sea was only sick."  Helen, "If it was sick it was because it was near you."  Damn, Helen is tearing Lawler a new asshole, aye?  Lawler, "How old are you anyway?"  Helen, "12."  Bigelow comes off the top with a somersault, but Bret moves out of the way.  Bret comesback with a kneedrop for 2.  Bret hits Bigelow with a DDT and leaves the ring to go after Lawler.  Bigelow wins by countout.  (6:57 shown)  Bret consoles his parents after all they went through.  Helen really made that segment with her senility.  1/3

- Ludvig Borga Promo

Ludvig Borga is a Finnish nationalist who can't stand America.  He looks a little like Brock Lesnar, which explains why Vince signed him in the first place.  Sadly Ludvig doesn't even pronounce his own name correctly.  Ludvig wants people to stand for the Finnish national anthem.  1/4

WWF Wrestling Challenge: July 31, 1993

- Ted DiBiase vs. 1-2-3 Kid

As all of you should know, the Kid upset Razor Ramon on Monday Night Raw.  The following week, Razor gave the Kid $10,000 to fight him again.  The Kid took the money and ran.  DiBiase found this funny and decided to challenge the Kid himself.  I have to say that the crowd looks like a bunch of overweight hicks as they chant 1-2-3.  Anyway, the Kid makes a mistake by shaking DiBiase's hand, as DiBiase gets a cheapshot in.  DiBiase uses some weak offense, but the Kid comesback with a crescent kick for 2.  Kid gets a backslide for 2.  DiBiase charges, but the kid moves, and DiBiase goes straight into the corner.  Kid hits DiBiase with a moonsault for 2.  DiBiase gets the Kid with a stun gun and a piledriver.  DiBiase covers, but changes his mind and stops the count at 2. DiBiase suplexes the Kid and stops the count at 2 again.  DiBiase hooks in the Million Dollar Dream, but Razor comes out.  DiBiase breaks the hold to yell at Razor.  DiBiase goes back to kid and gets rolled up for 3.  (3:36) 1/4*  Razor finds this funny and leads the crowd in a 1-2-3 chant.  This setup the SummerSlam match between DiBiase and Razor.

WCW Saturday Night: August 1, 1993

- Chris Benoit & Bobby Eaton Interview

Benoit directs his comments at the Kole Brothers (Harlem Heat), who stole a win from them last week.  They want a rematch with the Kole Brothers.  Benoit spoke exactly like Bret Hart for this interview.  I guess he hadn't honed his own style at this point.  1/5

- Paul Orndorff Interview

Orndorff calls Steamboat "over the hill", HA!  Steamboat interrupts Orndorff and says that if Orndorff beats him, he will call him "#1, Mr. Wonderful, Paul Orndorff", but until then he is just "Paula".  Steamboat tears off his shirt revealing a Paula T-shirt.  1/6

- NWA Title: Barry Windham vs. Ric Flair (Finish)

This match is from Beach Blast 93.  We join the match with both men trading blows.  Windham reverses the Flair Flip for 2.  Both men run into each other for a double KO.  Flair gets a belly-to-back suplex and hurts his own back.  Flair goes for the Figure-Four, but Windham rolls out of it.  Flair gets Windham in the corner and delivers the hardest chops on this tape thus far.  Flair goes for the Figure-Four again, but Windham kicks him in the face.  Flair finally gets the Figure-Four, Windham gets his shoulders counted down for 3.  For some reason, referee Anderson doesn't ring the bell until Flair releases the hold, must be some weird NWA rule.  Flair wins the NWA Title for the 8th time and wins a World Title for the 11th time.   (1:57)  2/7

- Ric Flair Interview

Fifi is Flair's woman at this point.  Flair talks about winning the title and he is ready fight the best wrestlers in WCW.  2/8

- Dustin Rhodes Interview

Jesse Ventura kisses Dustin's ass in hopes of finding out who the mystery partner is, but Dustin keeps it a mystery.  Dustin adds that Jesse isn't the legend his father was...whatever.  2/9

- Steven Regal & Sir WiIlliam Interview

Regal has some choice words for Too Cold Scorpio, his opponent at the Clash.  Tex Slazenger & Shanghai Pierce come out and pat Regal on the back as they lay down a challenge for the Kole Brothers.  Regal has his excellent besmirched face on as Tex continues to touch to his back.  Regal runs to the back for a bath.  You can't blame him, I wouldn't want Phineas Godwinn touching me either.  3/10

- Ice Train & Thunderbolt Patterson Promo

Let me say right now that I HATE Ice Train, and Patterson isn't a favorite of mine either.  Unfortunately they will be in the next three segments.  *Deep Breath*  Anyway, Thunderbolt gives Ice Train a talk about making it to the big time, WCW.  Ice Train is doing his usual train motions and sounds (CHOO-CHOO) during the whole thing.  The sad thing is that someone actually agreed to that gimmick.  One down, two to go.  3/11

- Ice Train w/Thunderbolt Patterson vs. Tony Vendetta

This is Ice Train's final Indy match, supposedly.  Vendetta is Marc Mero's brother.  Tony is the commentator for this and delivers the first Schivaone-ism of the tape, "We have heard about Ice Train's upper body strength, but look at those legs.  That must be called...lower body strength."  Ice Train doesn't sell Tony's punches and catches him with a thrust to the throat.  Train wins with a powerslam.  (1:21) DUD

- Ice Train & Thunderbolt Patterson Promo

Thunderbolt wants us to CALL SOMEBODY, tell them about Ice Train.  CALL SOMEBODY, CHOO CHOO!!  3/12

- Tex Slazenger & Shanghai Pierce Interview

Tex talks about beating the Kole Brothers, but Bobby Eaton & Chris Benoit interrupt their interview.  Tex criticizes them for losing to the Kole Brothers making them 0-1, while the Texans are 1-0.  The two teams push each other a bit, so a match is made for next week.  3/13

WWF Monday Night Raw: August 2, 1993

- Who Is Lex Luger?

The WWF did a number of these idiotic sit down interviews with Lex Luger, they are ALL boring and pointless so lets just get it over with.  Luger claims that his parents forced him to get straight A's and play an instrument if he wanted to play sports.  He was quite well rounded, yet his peers still made fun of him.  That doesn't bother him anymore, but none of his friends can believe he is on TV.  WOW, he used to be shy and now he is SO outgoing.  Claims people thought he was arrogant because he was smart and quite.  I'm sure all of the gifted kids who watch the WWF feel better about themselves now.  3/14

- Jim Cornette Interview

Jim Cornette appears on WWF TV for the first time and Heenan marks out like a 13 year old seeing his first pair of tits.  Heenan calls Cornette the greatest manager ever.  Jim delivers an excellent promo, the point of which is to challenge the Steiner Brothers to put the WWF Tag-Team Titles on the line against the Heavenly Bodies.  Cornette is drenched in sweat by the end of the segment.  I love Cornette...4/15

WCW Saturday Night: August 7, 1993

- Tex Slazenger & Shanghai Pierce vs. Bobby Eaton & Chris Benoit (Finish)

We join the match with all four men in the ring.  Eaton catches Shanghai with the swinging neckbreaker for the pin.  (0:17)  4/16

- Yoshi Kwan & Harley Race Interview

Kwan is also knows as Chris Champion.  In order to make Kwan look Japanese, he is wearing a ton of makeup.  Couldn't WCW have done the logical thing and actually have a Japanese wrestler play a martial arts expert from the Far East?  Anyhow, Race wants Kwan to take out Cactus Jack.  4/17

- Dustin Rhodes Interview

Rude & The Equalizer appear on the big screen and demand that Rhodes tells them who his mystery partner is.  Rhodes gives two hints: 1. These two men won the NWA Six-Man Title with Dusty Rhodes and it's not Murdoch & Mulligan.  2. At the Clash, it will be your (Rude & Equalizer) DOOM.  That sure as hell doesn't leave all that many people.  4/18

- Horsemen Interview

At this point the Horsemen only consist of Flair, Anderson, and Roma.  Flair promises the greatest ever "Flair For The Gold" with a special guest at the Clash.  Arn guarantees that they will win the Tag-Titles at the Clash.  Does anyone else think that Paul Roma and Billy Kidman look VERY similar?  5/19

WCW Main Event: August 8, 1993

- Flair For The Gold

Tonight’s special guest is none other than Ricky Steamboat.  Fifi shines up the belt, as Flair talks to Steamboat about his upcoming match with Paul Orndorff.  Steamboat calls 1989 the best year of his career.  Ricky wants one more match with Flair, but Ric suggests he win the Television Title first.  6/20

WWF Monday Night Raw: August 9, 1993

- Who Is Lex Luger?

Luger played football in college.  Lex got caught in the wrong crowd and made many mistakes.  He played 3 years in the Canada Football League and 2 in the NFL.  Too bad Lex didn't stick to football...6/21

- Jim Cornette, Mr. Fuji & Yokozuna Interview

Fuji announces that Cornette is the official spokesperson of Yokozuna.  Cornette claims Fuji & Yokozuna have been taken advantage of by Jack Tunney because they don't speak English.  Cornette reads over the contract for the Yokozuna-Luger Title match at SummerSlam.  Cornette accepts the contract and here comes Lex Luger (in suit and tie).  Both men sign the contract and Cornette announces that there was a clause in the contract which states that Luger only gets one shot at the title.  Luger cuts the usual patriotic promo, which causes the crowd to go insane.  6/22

- Heavenly Bodies w/Jim Cornette vs. Bobby Who & Mike Brucci

Anyone remember when the only T&A on the WWF was from the "Raw Girls"?  Tom Pritchard and Bobby Who start.  Pritchard catches Who with a quick drop toehold.  The Bodies have a cool spot where Del Ray comes in and kicks Who in the back of the head, which leads to a DDT from Pritchard.  The cool thing about it was that the timing was PERFECT.  Del Ray tags in and hits Who with a kick to the face.  Brucci comes in, only to get caught in a sloppy floatover DDT from Del Ray.  Del Ray gets a sidewalk slam, followed with a knee drop from Pritchard.  The Bodies deliver a double suplex and know Who off the apron.  Pritchard wins it was moonsault. (2:36)  1/4*

- "Speaking From the Heart" Music Video

This is one of the songs from WrestleMania- The Album, which I unfortunately own.  Note to self- any song with "Funky like a monkey" in it is NOT good.  The song seems to be about the Macho Man.  Whoever is singing this can't pronounce Macho, so we get Matcho instead.  Words cannot describe how bad this was.  6/23

WWF Wrestling Challenge: August 14, 1993

- "WrestleMania" Music Video

SOMEBODY STOP THE PAIN!!!  This is also from WrestleMania- The Album.  This is basically Linda McMahon's theme with words from the wrestlers.  With a title like "WrestleMania", you would figure there would be some clips from WrestleMania in the video, but this the WWF in 1993, so we get to see a ring being built.  Once again, words cannot describe how I feel about this.  6/24

- SummerSlam Report

Whoa, a PPV on a Monday, those were the days.  Mean Gene announces the matches on the card.

*WWF Title: Yokozuna vs. Lex Luger

*Jerry Lawler vs. Bret Hart

Bret cuts a quick promo where he lists all of his accomplishments.  Bret is pretty pissed over Lawler bothering his parents.

*Rest In Peace Match: Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzalez

*Intercontinental Title Match: Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Perfect

*Razor Ramon vs. Ted DiBiase

*1-2-3 Kid vs. I.R.S

*Tatanka & The Smoking Gunns vs. Bam Bam Bigelow & The Headshrinkers

*Ludvig Borga vs. Marty Jannetty

*WWF Tag-Titles: Steiner Brothers vs. Heavenly Bodies

Cornette & The Heavenly Bodies cut a quick promo claiming that they will be the first team from another promotion to win the WWF Tag-Team Titles.  7/25

- Face-To-Face Interview

It's funny how these Face-To-Face interviews used to be a big deal, nowadays every interview is Face-To-Face.  This interview includes the Steiner Brothers and The Heavenly Bodies with Jim Cornette.  The Bodies say what you would expect them to say.  Rick Steiner on the other hand claims that the Bodies haven't beaten anybody yet, I guess he wasn't watching on Monday night.  Nothing special or even remotely interesting here.  7/26

WCW Main Event: August 15, 1993

- Hollywood Blonds Interview

Interesting interview here as Pillman complains about the lack of competition.  He also promises that the demise of the Horsemen at the Clash will be nothing more than another chapter in the Blonds' storybook.  Austin brings up a good point by stating that the Blonds aren't being held back because of physical or mental incapacitates, but because of greed, hypocrisy, and conspiracy in WCW.  And that my friends is one of those "accidental" shoot comments we hear about every so often.  8/27

WCW Saturday Night: August 14, 1993

- Colossal Kongs & Harley Race Interview

Race starts be bringing up how Vader will destroy the Bulldog at the Clash, just like he destroyed Cactus Jack a few months.  Race talks about how Ric Flair has broken his record of World Title wins, yet he doesn't have the guts to put the title on the line at the Clash.  Flair comes out to over his rebuttal, but Race doesn't want to hear any of it and starts shoving Flair.  Flair has had enough and nails Harley who is fortunately caught by the Kongs.  9/28

- Ric Flair Interview

Flair agrees with Race and decides to wrestle at the Clash.  Flair offers to  be Sting's partner at the Clash when he fights the Colossal Kongs.  Sting accepts and The Kongs surround Flair in the ring.  Sting comes out to aid Flair and Kongs back off.  That match looks as promising as the Marty Jannetty-Ludvig Borga match at SummerSlam.  At least the storyline leading up to it is pretty good.  10/29

- Ric Flair & Sting Interview

Flair grants Sting a NWA Title match next week on Saturday Night in return for being his partner at the Clash.  10/30

WCW Main Event: August 15, 1993

- Harlem Heat Interview

As usual Harlem Heat says nothing worth repeating.  They didn't even direct the interview towards anyone, but they did say "Sucka" a few times.  10/31

WWF Monday Night Raw: August 16, 1993

- Who Is Lex Luger?

Today’s topic is "Drugs In Sports".  Luger claims to have never had a drug problem.  In hopes of saving his ass when it went on trial, Vince asks Luger if is currently taking steroids.  Luger obviously denies, but that doesn't mean much in the wacky world of wrestling.  Then again, maybe he is telling the truth.  He might of gotten buff from all that ICOPRO he used.  Wait for it, wait for it, there it is!!  Luger admits to taking steroids before they were illegal, BUT he never abused them.  Right, we could chalk that one up with, "I never had sexual relations with that women."  10/32

- "SummerSlam Jam" Music Video

THEY'RE BACK!!!  As expected there are minimal if any clips from SummerSlam in this video.  These songs sound like something you would here on the Disney channel from the mid-90's.  10/33

Part 2 will include some stuff from the Clash and the aftermath of SummerSlam.  Plus the epic Flair-Sting match from Saturday Night.

I bought it from Tim Noel (link in sig.), since the tape is 6 hours, I think it cost $15 (shipping included).  It is tape #123 on his site.

FYI, that is only the first 2 hours of the tape, I posted the next 2 in this folder also.  I'll finish up the the end of the tape in a few days probably.
