Guest Some Guy Posted April 2, 2002 Report Posted April 2, 2002 Considering Earthquake was his only gimmick that was any where close to successful I voted for it. I am partial to his WCW days in 96 as "Big John Tenta" though, gotta love the half shaved head and beard, which he kept shaving according to WCW to stay mad at Big Bubba. WCW's midcard storylines during the beginning of nWo were pretty fucking stupid.
Guest Tony149 Posted April 2, 2002 Report Posted April 2, 2002 No shock that Eartquake is in the lead. Tenta is like Ed Leslie. Both men had a lot of bad gimmicks. The only one that worked for Tenta was "Earthquake".
Guest RetroRob215 Posted April 2, 2002 Report Posted April 2, 2002 I liked Golga because the Oddites were funny. They sucked in the ring, but their entrance was great.
Guest Ace309 Posted April 2, 2002 Report Posted April 2, 2002 Earthquake was somewhat fresh at the time. Instead of being just another enormous monster heel, or just another Canadian strongman like Dino Bravo, Earthquake was an enormous Canadian monster heel! What an angle! Everything else was just a rehash of Earthquake with the exception of Golga, which got very old very quickly.
Guest Posted April 2, 2002 Report Posted April 2, 2002 Another question, how did he debut as Earthquake and Avalanche, these two gimmicks are the only ones I havent seen debut.
Guest dreamer420 Posted April 2, 2002 Report Posted April 2, 2002 I like Golga too. That giant Cartman doll kicked ass and I didn't mind the Oddities back in 98.
Guest Some Guy Posted April 2, 2002 Report Posted April 2, 2002 Dino Bravo and Warrior were having a push-up contest on Superstars and Bravo challenged Warrior to do a push-up with an audience member of Bravo's choosing. Bravo chose Earthquake out of the crowd and he beat up Warrior. Avalanche debuted at the end of Halloween Havos 94 and beat up Hogan with Kevin Sullivan and Beefcake.
Guest Will Scarlet Posted April 2, 2002 Report Posted April 2, 2002 I have to go with the Shark. There is something about a grown man putting a forearm pad on his arm and calling it a shark fin that I always found absurdly entertaining.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted April 2, 2002 Report Posted April 2, 2002 The Shark, because it was hilariously bad.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Where's quasi-face former sumo wrestler Earthquake at?
Guest RetroRob215 Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 I heard he ran a bunch of strip joints in Florida.
Guest MoneyIvezaj Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Its obvious that Earthquake is his best gimmick, but you should have made a poll about what John Tentas worst gimmick and I would go with Shark and then Golga.
Guest Drury37 Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 I went with Earthquake,I thought he was decent enough at that Gimmick, but Earthquake,Avalanche and The Shark where like the same gimmick. Thanks.
Guest Tony149 Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Earthquake & Avalanche were the same thing only with a different name. So Tenta was pretty much playing Earthquake in WCW only with a different name to avoid lawsuits. The Shark was a horrible gimmick. I wonder who came up with that.

Dusty Rhodes?Tony Schivanne?Hulk Hogan? Thanks.

Guest crandamaniac Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 The funny thing about the shark gimmick was that Tenta had a tattoo on his shoulder of a tiger. Well he decided to go all out and spent 24 hours getting the tattoo changed to a shark. Well a few weeks later he wasn't the shark anymore Wouldn't you just love to have that happen to you?
Guest MoneyIvezaj Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 He was the Shark for over a year. Not a few weeks
Guest crandamaniac Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 He was the Shark for over a year. Not a few weeks your right there, my bad. but still, he had the tattoo for the college he went to, changed it to get completely in character, and then the gimmick bombed, still bad IMO
Guest Posted April 7, 2002 Report Posted April 7, 2002 I went with Earthquake,I thought he was decent enough at that Gimmick, but Earthquake,Avalanche and The Shark where like the same gimmick. Thanks. Your welcome.
Guest Sloeberdeef Posted April 8, 2002 Report Posted April 8, 2002 In my opinion, Earthquake was his best gimmick. As Earthquake he was in a main event against Hogan. He got a lot of heel heat when he squashed him before SummerSlam '90.
Guest Posted May 6, 2002 Report Posted May 6, 2002 Where is he at now? Will he hopefully come back to do another "Gimmick Battle Royale?"
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted May 6, 2002 Report Posted May 6, 2002 earthquake lives in British Columbia (my home province!)
Guest Tony149 Posted May 6, 2002 Report Posted May 6, 2002 I think Tenta runs a wrestling school somewhere in the U.S.
