Guest The Masked Yodeler Report post Posted April 2, 2002 Like everyone with any knowledge of the WWF's history, I'm a big cynical about they're statements that "We're going to push cruiser this time. No really! We mean it this time. Forget about all those other times where we pushed them for a little while and buried/forgot about them, this time it's the real deal! We promise on our children!" I have a hunch that the push is going to go something like this: Smackdown 4/4 : In the opening match Tajiri defends the CW title against the debuting Rey Jr. After 20 minutes of great wrestling, Rey get's the duke, to win the title. Everyone on the Internet raves about the match, and says that the WWF really is serious this time. Friday 4/5: JR puts over the budding cruiser division in the Ross Report, before giving a verbal blow-job to Lesnar and shilling some BBQ sauce. Heat 4/7: Chavo pins Scotty 2 Hotty in a good 8 minute match and Kidman and The Hurricane go 15 minutes with Kidman winning to get a shot at CW title on the next Heat. Smackdown 4/11: Kidman and Tajiri beat Rey and Hurricane in a 12 minute tag match when Kidman pins Rey after Tajiri kicks Rey in the head. Friday 4/12: JR says that the cruisers need to slow down on the highspots, and work more on psychology. He says that if Rey learns to work the WWF style, he could be a big star. Heat 4/14: Rey retains the CW title over Kidman in 10 minutes. Smackdown 4/18: Rey retains the CW title over Chavo in a decent 7 minute match. Friday 4/19: JR says that the CW division has been working as well as he had hoped, but they won't be giving up on it. Backlash 4/21: The card opens with a 6-way for the CW title between Rey, Kidman, Tajiri, Hurricane, Chavo and Scotty 2 Hotty. After 5 minutes of spots, Scotty wins the title, pinning Rey with the Worm. Smackdwon 4/25: No cruiserweight match. Friday 4/26: Ross doesn't even mention the cruiserweight division. Heat 4/28: Scotty 2 Hotty defends the CW title, pinning Chavo in 3 minutes with the worm.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted April 2, 2002 I think you are being too generous. No cruiser match will get near 10 minutes. But your JR assessments are dead-on. the cruisers might get to showcase their stuff but as soon as a main eventer feels threatened or shown up, the cruisers will disappear again. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted April 2, 2002 Goodhelmet is right about your time estimates for the matches. A 20 min. cruiser match on Smackdown? You unfortumately are probably right about the rest. The problem is that Vince doesn't like them and neither does JR. JR likes Danny Hodge and other light weights who never leave the ground and are genarlly boring to watch.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 2, 2002 I agree with you on everything but the 6 way match with Scotty winning seems to realistic. So here is my fantasy booking for the CW division: I would begin the CW big push with several tag team matches setting up a single's title match between Tajeri and whoever is the fan favorite Cruiserweight at the time, Hurricane? Helms would defend the title until the King of the Ring, where the CW would be the prize for the PPV. The final match would be Hurricane vs AJ Styles, Hurricane retains but makes Styles look good in the process. This would lead to tag matches with them as a team beating teams several establish CW teams Rey & Kidman and Chavo & Eddy. Then at Survivor Series Rey & Guerreros & Kidman vs Hurricane & AJ & American Dragon & Tajeri. this would lead to heel turn by somebody setting up CW title match. Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted April 2, 2002 You certainly could be right. The stuff about the Ross Report sounds like shit he would write.
Guest The Masked Yodeler Report post Posted April 2, 2002 I disagree. I think that the WWF will at least make it look like they are giving the cruisers a push, and will give them 20 minutes or so at least once.
Guest Special K Report post Posted April 2, 2002 I hope they give the cruisers time on Heat. Anyone watch Heat this week? Billy Kidman's been given little to no exposure in WWF, and still got a pretty darn good pop; plus he had a pretty darn good match. A 1 hour cruiser show would make me happy. That and have Helms actually wrestle instead of being a goof all of the time. He CAN do both. PS: Seeing Kidman, I was reminded of the Kidman facebuster, and how I loved him in the ring, but hated that move. It's much like the Van Daminator. (And I'm an RVD mark too) Any move that you use regularly, (no matter how cool it looks) that requires being set up by you opponent is just silly. On eof the reasons I like the VD (those are unfortunate initials) being used sparingly.
Guest teke184 Report post Posted April 2, 2002 According to people who have the satellite feed, they are taping Heat matches right now with Raven and Coachman on the mic, which means that the cruisers from Smackdown WON'T have the show.
