Randumb raw thoughts

--> I never got a good look at the new belt. When I did see it, either the light made it look all shiny gold or all dark gold. I got up close and squinted at the screen, and from what I could see it was a decent belt.

--> I like the new theme, with fire and machine looking things, but I don't like the new set or the new music as much as the old ones. Oh well.

--> JR stressed the word "Wrestling" a lot in the beginning.

--> RVD vs Booker was a damn good match. The only problem was both guys were a little sloppy early on. Not missing moves, just delivering them a little unconvincingly. But it was good nonetheless, and more than four minutes! And NO interference!

--> Here's hoping Guerrero's got a good excuse...

--> NWO in the APA Office? Oh no you didn't...

--> Way to nosell the Acid Drop, Regal. It was obvious how the match would end once JR pointed out that Patrick got the knucks, but for some reason it was fun to see anyway. The rest of the match wasn't so hot.

--> Well, whatever Hennig was on when he fought Tazz has apparently been dropped, because he looked pretty good for the few minutes he was in the ring tonight.

--> Bossman SO needs to go back to the old blue uniform "Servin' Hard Time" gimmick.

--> Jeff Hardy... pigtails... uggggh. Kick his ass, Lesnar!

--> That Hardcore match was pretty entertaining... but why'd they give Raven the strap for only six days?

--> A main event with non-main-eventers... odd... the match was typical Raw stuff.

--> Thank God Austin stunned Flair, because that was getting to be embarassing.

--> HHH/Undertaker at Backlash? I'm not going to give up on it just yet, but they better make it good.

--> Here's a question: If HHH is fueding with Taker, what's he going to do on Smackdown? Will the champ being on both shows set up a lot of Three-ways, or will he just do defenses, or will Undertaker pull the ole "Oh, I'm showing up when I'm not supposed to, I'm a badass" routine?

Overall: Wrestling was either on par or above par for Raw, which is a good sign. All the matches were entertaining for one reason or another. Let's hope the trend continues.

Good show, I thought.  But someone has to tell Jeff that he  must've picked up Lita's gear on accident. ;)

I rejoiced in JR's emphasis on "wrestling"... until the announcement of the bikini paddle on a pole match. The beatdown from Molly saved it, although that's like saving a burn victim's ID from the fire.

I knew as soon as I saw the Hardyz's opponents that it was just a set-up for Brock Lobster and his "please cheer/please don't cheer" scintillating slobberknocker smashmouth offense. Um bookers, how about letting the guy wrestle? No need to revisit that Berg guy, y'know.

Lot more actual wrestling, which is good. Too much Bossman on Prime Time, which is bad.

And Raven lost the HC belt 'cuz he's supposedly commentating on Jakked/Metal.

And yes, I saw the Stunner on Flair as soon as his Flairness chugged the first beer. Will they feud? I hope not, 'cuz the time for that wa 1994 (thanks, Hogan and friends :P) Plus, that would upset the whole UT/Flair dynamic, unless UT heads over to sMacMahonDown!

All in all, a good two hours. Not great, but a good start. Let's hope Smackdown does just as well...

When I see two 10minute ***+ matches on the same show then I'll be excited. For the time being at least the WWF is attempting to be new even though everything felt like the same old, same old.

Was it just me or did RVD and Booker get great heat through out their match?  And did Vince hear this?  The fans popped for a wrestling match! RVD screwed up twice in the match and Booker really needs to drop the chinlock from his move set but the reaction was a step in the right direction.

The fans were dead for the entire Flair celebration, Austin should have stunned him a minute earlier.

The set and theme will be ok in a few weeks when everyone gets used to them.

The show started good and then became cliche and predictible.

--> I like the new theme, with fire and machine looking things, but I don't like the new set or the new music as much as the old ones. Oh well.

I was down with the new set with the exception of the new Titan Tron. The new music was alright, but damn did I miss the old riff being played when they panned the crowd.

--> RVD vs Booker was a damn good match. The only problem was both guys were a little sloppy early on. Not missing moves, just delivering them a little unconvincingly. But it was good nonetheless, and more than four minutes! And NO interference!

Very sloppy.

--> Here's hoping Guerrero's got a good excuse...

No doubt. I said the same thing. I know they want to put him in a feud with RVD, but they could have found a reason to do so before starting it. Hopefully matters will be cleared up next week. As an aside, I will hereby refer to Eddie's frogsplash as the Six Star Frogsplash. An RVD friend of mine was watching with me this evening and was PISSED when I called it that after Eddie hit it.

--> NWO in the APA Office? Oh no you didn't...

Wasted segment. Why was J.R. calling it a three on one beat down? I never saw more then one wrestler bust on Bradshaw at a time, and Scott Hall never threw one punch.

--> Way to nosell the Acid Drop, Regal. It was obvious how the match would end once JR pointed out that Patrick got the knucks, but for some reason it was fun to see anyway. The rest of the match wasn't so hot.

Did they announce the non-title stipulation at the beginning of the match? I may have missed it.

--> Well, whatever Hennig was on when he fought Tazz has apparently been dropped, because he looked pretty good for the few minutes he was in the ring tonight.

That solves a lot of the questions people have been asking about the tag division. I thought this would be the solution. Just create new teams. They need to do a bit better then this though if they want to put the division over.

--> Bossman SO needs to go back to the old blue uniform "Servin' Hard Time" gimmick.

Bossman rules.

--> Jeff Hardy... pigtails... uggggh. Kick his ass, Lesnar!

Brock needs to look more vicious. The only move that I marked out for was the Triple Powerbomb. He needs to learn how to growl more. Heyman is great though.

--> That Hardcore match was pretty entertaining... but why'd they give Raven the strap for only six days?

--> A main event with non-main-eventers... odd... the match was typical Raw stuff.

They need to get Bubba Ray over as a singles competitor and they probably did not want him to take it off of Maven because I am assuming that Maven is going to be a face and that is what they want to push Bubba as.

--> Thank God Austin stunned Flair, because that was getting to be embarassing.

That entire segment was awful. Austin is getting a bit stale. I called the entire script from the beginning to end. I thought I would care more when he returned.

--> HHH/Undertaker at Backlash? I'm not going to give up on it just yet, but they better make it good.

For the record, I let my wife know that the crowd definitely did NOT pop when Triple H came out, or when Flair was mentioning him, or when he got in the Undertakers face, that it definitely was NOT loud, and the crowd NEVER started chanting his name. This board says that he is not over, so damn it, he must not be! No need to point out the fact that he is not as popular as Austin, Hogan, or the Rock. I know that. I still think it is wrong for everyone to say that the place dies when he arrives. I think the match will be good, and could be built up as an old school style feud. Then again, I still dig the Undertaker unlike most.

An even more interesting question I thought about while watching. Since the champion can float between shows, could he be a face on one and a heel on the other? That would be kind of cool.

"Your Randumb thoughts? "

I was all set to get into it until Vince showed up. What a fucking tool man. So much for the split. How gay. My enjoyment of the rest of the show was significantly lessened because of his continual appearances. I will withhold judgement of Raw until next week.

****** Frog Splash? I'm game. How about this! Winner of the IC Title match may use the name of ***** Frog Splash for their finishing maneuver?

Indeed.  The show started off so well with RVD-Book match and the Eddy run in, then ended up becoming very predictable.  Seeing the ending to a match/segment right when it starts just totally ruins it right out of the starting gate.

putting more actual wrestling in the show doesn't help when the talent in your roster is spread so thin.  kane/x-pac?  trish/scarycleavagewoman?  spike/regal?  perfect-bossman/hardyZ?  bubba/raven was pretty good, so was booker/rvd.  that's about it.  eddy was cool, lesnar didn't do anything he's already been doing for 3 weeks.

for someone i like who got a lot of tv time, flair really bored the hell out of me tonight.  just nothing special coming out of him at all.  the 10:00 segment where everybody just stared at each other for 15 minutes was painful to watch.

vince, as per usual, did nothing to impress me.

seeing austin antagonize vince (particularly when he kept telling him to say something) was fun to watch, but everybody saw the payoff a mile away & it took forever.

how am i supposed to get excited about this shit?

Guest The Man in Blak

A long time ago, I got in a little spat with Goodhelmet about whether RVD and Booker could really have a good match.  And I'll admit, I was skeptical all the way up to the middle of the match, when it looked like both guys were getting a little tired.  But even I, Booker T Skeptic extraordinaire, was sold once I heard a good percentage of the crowd counting with the ref at the end.

*finishes up his place of crow*

Other than that, I enjoyed Raw and thought it was fairly decent, given what they have to work with.  The sequencing was good and they pretty much tried to give many of the fans (or at least this fan) what they've been wanting by ditching the opening promo, extending the match times and generally streamlining a lot of the proceedings...except for the end segment, which did kind of drag a little bit for me.  There are still some kinks that need to be worked out in and out of the ring, but I think this Raw is a step in the right direction.

The match would have been a lot better if Booker T learned to get through a match without going to the rear chinlock of DOOM~! Not only that, but he used two on RAW! For a "young star" (wink wink) he sure gets gassed and goes to the restholds often.

Booker got some decent face heat too.  Big pop for the Spineronnie.  Only good match on RAW.

Bad things: Eddie was too big, there still wasn't enough wrestling, Vince shouldn't have been on the show, Bossman still employed, HHH/UT, Bradshaw getting a push, Trish demoted from credible women's champ to stupid pole match.

Good things: RVD/Booker match, Eddie's return, Probable Flair heel turn, Molly heel turn.
