Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted April 2, 2002 Obviously, since this is "the old stuff" room, i mean favorite year from 1980-1997. I have a few so it will be hard to narrow it down to 1. I was a bigger fan for 1988-1993. I enjoyed 1994, 1995 i hated, 1996 was fair, 1997 i didnt watch period. 1988: Randy Savage is world champion, only 4 PPV's a year whiched allowed better build up to PPV's, Demolition started killing opponenets (not literally), and we had a AWESOME tag team division including the Brain busters, Hart foundation, Killer Bees, Briitsh Bulldogs, Demolition, Powers of Pain,British Bulldogs, Fabulous Rogeaus, Bolshiviks, Young Stallions and more. 1989: Not as good as 1988. This was the beggining of the CARTOON CHARACTER era of WWF. Red Rooster, Zues, Genius to name a few. How nbout that dusty rhodes, too think WWF created Akeem (another stupid cartoon character) as a parody of him. 1989 debuted the Royal Rumble PPV(1988 held a RR on USA network). And lets not forget the Strike Force split. Plus, the Rockers/Brain Busters feud. 1990: Ok, we are slowly slipping into crap. Although WMVI produced Warrior/Hogan, nothing else notable occured. Demolition 3 peated as tag champs, Andre The giant retired from active wrestling. Summerslam was very lacking with crappy main event matches Hogan/Quake & Rude/Warrior in a CAGE. Survivor Series though, debuted the Deadman, the Undertaker as he mercylessly destroyed Koko B. Ware & Dusty Rhodes. 1991: IRAN vs. USA! Only problem.........no iranians on the WWF Roster. so? TRhe evil Genius Vinnie Mac brings back American Hero (how many were there) Sgt. Sluaghter to play a tunrcoat. Who was the rival? If you dont know, heres a hint. Whacha gonna do brother? Anyway. Hogan /Quae feud FINALLY came to an end, Warrior was gone by summer. Savage/Warrior at WMVII provided great storyline and the turning of Savage back to face with newly returned Miss Elizabeth. Undertaker after 1 year in the WWF became World Champion, only for 6 days though. Ric Flair made the jump from WCW to WWF, and we saw the last of Ricky Steamboat in the WWF. Bret Hart would go onto a great singles push by defeating Mr. Perfect in a classic match at summerslam. Plus we also got (Psycho) Sid (Justice, Vicious) 1992: Natcha Boy! Whoooo! hogan had left at WMVIII, Kerry Von Erich brought back the Warrior gimmick the same night because Hellwig couldnt make it. (DUH! Couldnt anyone tell Kerrys hairdo was the same as Warriors?) Savage had become the WWF champion again, Roddy Piper won his first WWF title, THe WWF held its first UK PPV with Summerslam in England. Owen Hart debuted in winter of 91/92. Jake roberts was sent packing by April, Undertaker was a DEMOLITION CREW and was stuck in a feud with Kamala. Shawn Michaels went on to a signles career while Marty Jannetty was released so he can fix his "inner-demons." Mr. Perfect finally turned heel and by October 1992, Bret Hart was the new WWF Champion. 1993: Too Tired Now. So I guess ill have to say 1992 was my favorite year, with 1991 coming in 2nd probabaly. Guest Tony149 Report post Posted April 2, 2002 It was Iraq (Not Iran) vs. U.S.A. in the Gulf War angle. My favorites were 1987-1992 & 1997-2000. 1993 & 1994 were ok. 1995 was bad. 1996 wasn't any better.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted April 2, 2002 I liked 97 the best.
Guest Jericholic82 Report post Posted April 2, 2002 I'd also say '92, as it was the year, that I FULLY got into wrestling as a whole. I started watching WCW more at this time. WWF in '92 was good. BTW, did you mean that Kerry played Warrior? Hasn't it been said that there has been only one warrior (Hellwig). Where did you get that info. Don't take this as an insult, I was just curious. Good overview of the years 88-
Guest Jack Tunney Report post Posted April 2, 2002 1997 (mainly the summer) was the best.I actually looked FOWARD to seeing RAW every week. The whole Austin/Hart/Michaels and USA vs. Canada stuff was great.
Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted April 2, 2002 Hellwig couldnt make it to the arena for Wrestlemania VIII, so Von Erich steped in as a 1 time only substitute so the show could be finished right. Doesnt it seem wierd the next week he looked TOTALLY different from the WM8 appearence?
Guest JHawk Report post Posted April 2, 2002 I think 1996 was underrated. You had the Mankind-Undertaker feud before their injuries caught up to them, the WWF debut of Vader before he got buried, some great main events with Shawn Michaels, The RingMaster becoming "Stone Cold" and the beginning of "The Slammy Award Winning" Owen Hart. Favorite year was probably 1988 for me though. Great matches with WWF Champion Savage vs. Ted DiBiase, the product didn't seem oversaturated...good times, good times. Guest Report post Posted April 3, 2002 Best Year = Probably 92 Worst Year = 95 and 96 were shit, but I think 95 was worse
Guest The Man They Call Texas Blu Report post Posted April 3, 2002 WWF: 97 and 98, but the early part of 2000 wasn't bad. WCW: I didn't get WCW until 95 (I followed WCW by PPV's only) I would have to say 96 and 98.

Guest Some Guy Report post Posted April 3, 2002 I really liked 97. Austin vs. Bret, Austin vs HBK, more Austin vs Bret, Austin vs Owen (the ending sucked, Russo must haev booked it ), HBK vs Taker HIAC, Bret vs HBK (great match until Bret tapped out for no reason ). Plus Austin cut the best promos of his career on 97, The Rock was born, Attitude was born, DX was born, and the Bret/HBK fiasco was intriging from a mark and Smark perspective. I would have to agree that 1992 was my favorite year.WOW I never thought that the Warrior at WWF WrestleMania VIII was the Texas Tornado but the more you think about it the more obvious it becomes. Guest Report post Posted April 3, 2002 I'd say 1988 was great in terms of entertainment, but not actual wrestling quality. I enjoy alot of stuff from there, but as a whole, the wrestling matches were not exactly classics. Macho Man and the Demos were great though, and we can't forget the breakthrough of the Warrior. '89 was kind of crappy, Hogan wins the title again. Eh. The whole Zeus thing basically killed the second half of the year, and Macho Man went downhill unfortunately. '90 was the last of the Golden Era, with Warrior having a pretty crappy run with the strap and Savage being even further pushed down. Hogan/Earthquake never clicked with me. '90 sucked, more or less, though WM and SummerSlam were both good events. '91 sucked until Wrestlemania time.. Then it was uphill from there, discounting the bad SummerSlam "double main event". I love 1992, 1993, and most of 1994... After around SummerSlam '94, really REALLY crappy gimmicks started to come through... and the quality dropped at an enormous rate. '95 and '96 (till the very end of the year) were both abortions as far as I'm concerned. and of course 1997 saw the total revamp, ie; no more squashes on Raw, Raw becomes Raw is War/War Zone and a 2 hour show, the whole attitude premise, etc etc. But yeah my favs are '92-'94 Later-- --Joe Marotta The Black Sheep

Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted April 3, 2002 I think '97 was pretty great. Awesome Hart-Austin feud. Taker-HBK. Screwjob. What an interesting year. Myt favorite year for WWF wrestling is 2000. Without a doubt, 2000 put my faith back into PPV's after suffering through 1998 WCW PPV's.
Guest alfdogg Report post Posted April 3, 2002 I would say either 88 or
Guest krambigmac Report post Posted April 3, 2002 This is a hard one for me. Looking back, I like 1985-86 but I was young then so I couldn't experience it live. 87 was my first yr watching but I was still really young. I actually have a PPV Version of WM 3 woohoo. That year was great for Steamboat and Savage and then Savage and Honky/Bret on 2 straight SNME's. 1988 was pretty dull for me as was 1989 although the tag division was hot in 88. 1990 was great but nothnig noteworthy other than Warrior Hogan and Jake getting blinded. Quake and Hogan didn't do anything for me. After that, I loved 1991 and 92. 93 was good but not great. I loved the Luger stuff but that's it really. 94 was great and 97 was. After 97 isn't 5 yrs ago so I'll stop there.
