Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted August 28, 2003 Seeing as he was a heel back in October of 1987 when the film came out, was anything talked about his role in the film on WWF TV at the time, be it Prime Time, Superstars, Wrestling Challenge?
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2003 It was a long time ago, and my memory's a bit cloudy, but I'm almost certain they didn't.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2003 I was looking through a tape site yesterday and came across one video of WWF TV from early 1987 and included was an interview segment with Andre from London. Is it possible he was still shooting the film at that time? I can't think of any other reason he would be overseas.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 28, 2003 Maybe because he lived in France perhaps? but no...That was the time of shooting im sure..
Guest Super Leather Report post Posted August 28, 2003 I remember there being a decent spread about Andre's role in The Princess Bride in WWF Magazine with lots of photos plus an overview of the movie itself and what Andre does in it; and I do believe it was promoted on WWF TV as well. Most of the kids at my elementary school that were wrestling fans really wanted to see the movie because of Andre, and I doubt it was because of the magazine article. I was nine when The Princess Bride came out, and most kids that age don't like reading too much, so I imagine the WWF shilled it pretty well on television. Fökai 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 The shooting for Princess Bride was in 1985, not 1987 Correct. There's that famous story of Vince flying to the set of Princess Bride and convincing Andre to come back for "one last big payday" (Wrestlemania III). After much deliberating, Andre underwent major back surgery in early 1986 (there's a cool story on that, too), then agreed to the angle.
Guest The Real Nosferatu Report post Posted August 29, 2003 I'm sure the shooting took place AFTER WM 2, because WHY plan the WM 3 main event two years ahead of time? Especially when WM 2 didn't even HAPPEN yet. Not sure on this, but I Think Andre already had the back surgery before the offer from Vince. At least thats what the WM Book says. Guest thrall585 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 The shooting did not take place after Wrestlemania II, in the making of the Princess Bride it is said that it was made in 1985, not 1986.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Really? I remember seeing Princess Bride for the first time back in 1988, and being surprised that Andre was in it. I don't remember any promos they did with Andre at all.
Guest The Real Nosferatu Report post Posted August 30, 2003 (edited) Theres only one way to solve this...Cawthons SITE! If Andre is absent for a long enough stretch in 1985, then I'll believe it. Lots of people make date mistakes all the time. Hell, WWF magazine can't even get their own facts straight sometimes. Edit: thats the LAST TIME I credit WWE for knowing ANYTHING about their history. I apologize for being wrong. Andre was absent from May-October 1985, but I'm not sure if thats long enough to film a movie. Maybe he went and did more in 1986, since the movie didn't come out for a while still. Edited August 30, 2003 by Raven1919
Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2003 Don't forget the infamous WWF Magazine articles that got Andre over as a heel (puh) AND promoted the movie: basically saying Andre was difficult to work with on the set.

Well Acadamy Award winning screenwriter William Goldman disputes that...
