Halloween havoc 95 incident

Why did WCW plan this storyline?  Why did they also believe that the Double-Bearhug was a deadly move?

I can't remember the page of the Double-Bearhug, but if you haven't seen it  go to Google.com and type in "Dungeon of Domm tributes" and click on:

Group and Team tribute pages.

Then click on: Bow to the Master, and search around to see the Double-Bearhug.

Why was Hogan still being pushed when he hadn't drawn dick yet?  You're asking the wrong group of people unless Uncle Eric's lurking somewhere.

Yeah.  I often wonder what the heck WCW was thinking with that angle.  I will never forget watching Nitro with my sister when they announced that the Dungeon of Doom has a new wrestler who is encased in a giant block of ice.  Immediately, I thought that this was going to be bad idea.  Then to see a guy who is dressed like a mummy completely exceeded my expectations of how bad it was going to be.  Meanwhile, my sister was losing it upon seeing a 7 foot tall guy wrapped in toilet paper.

To WCW's credit, I did end up buying tickets for Halloween Havoc 1995 because I thoroughly enjoyed Halloween Havoc 1994 which I received some comp seats for.  The event was rather fun to attend, despite angles like Sumo monster trucks and yetis dressed like mummies.  I even gained a new respect for Eddie Guerrero when I had a chance to see him live.

As for the angle, I just rack it up to seriously wacked out drug use by the bookers then.  I just figure the bookers would end up getting into a serious, drugged out stupor, and then write the angles.  They end up thinking, "Whoa!  Sumo monster trucks!  Throwing people off of tall buildings!  Yeti mummies!  Magical bearhugs!  That's ratings!"  At least that is the only plausible excuse I can think of as to why they decided to go through with this.

The only good thing about that angle was going into school the next day and my friend Steve and I talking about that angle.

Steve: "You see Havoc?"

Me: "Yeah."

Steve: "Why was the mummy guy getting Hogan up the BUTT?"

This was a fucking joke, and an insult to wrestling fans.  Here is Hulk Hogan, the greatest of all time (in WCW's eyes at the time).  They create a stable of villians for the Hulkster to take out, but the only problem is that all the guys in the stable had horrible gimmicks and none of them could wrestle particularly well either.   Even to think about this angle and that PPV it makes me angry with how stupid WCW was.
