CanadianChris Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 For anyone in Canada, Mick Foley is currently on Off The Record on TSN. I will post anything interesting that comes out of the show later (I missed the first segment, anyone else see it?)
CanadianChris Posted September 1, 2003 Author Report Posted September 1, 2003 Some highlights from segment 2: - Mick watches a clip of Hogan from December knocking Foley for never being in shape during his career. He was quite insulted by this, saying that people who wrestled him would have said he was deceptively in shape. He then knocks Hogan for wrestling embarassing matches. - He still says he would like to do a program with Hogan (the three feuds he's never had that he'd like to were Hogan, Flair and Bruiser Brody). Said that they could have an exciting match, if not technically sound, and pointed to Hogan/McMahon from WrestleMania as an example.
CanadianChris Posted September 1, 2003 Author Report Posted September 1, 2003 From segment 3: - Segue from collapses and deaths from heat exhaustion in pro football to deaths in wrestling. Mick doesn't hold Vince responsible, saying that the wrestlers must ultimately be accountable for their own well-being. Said that WWE has a good track record for going after wrestlers who have a problem and making sure they get help if they want it. - Mick disagrees with the host that painkillers were not the only way to get through the daily grind. He decided early on that he wouldn't take painkillers unless they were absolutely necessary, and only took them regularly in his last year. - Mick thought a union would be a good idea, possibly under ACTRA or SAG. Thought that it would happen sometime in the future.
Guest The Real Nosferatu Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Bravo for Mick on Hogan insulting him. Being a Hogan fan, even I think that was uncalled for. I was thinking about this oddly earlier that Hogan/Foley never had a program or possibly never even fought before.
CanadianChris Posted September 1, 2003 Author Report Posted September 1, 2003 Final segment: - Mick agrees that he took a big gamble on Tietam Brown, away from the WWE promotional department. It is a dark book, going so far as to say his mother read it (it was dedicated to her) and never mentioned it to him again. But he sees it as being a "light at the end of the tunnel" type book. - Says that the narrator was himself at 17, insecurities and all; he drew upon a number of wrestling characters when writing the father. - Relates the gamble to the gamble he took in moving away from the tough-guy image that most wrestlers are perceived to have, especially with the things he'd done making him a legit tough guy, and being very successful at it. End of show. As I said, I missed the first segment; I'm sure nothing earth-shattering was said, but if anyone saw it, please post it here. Thanks.
AndrewTS Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 I was thinking about this oddly earlier that Hogan/Foley never had a program or possibly never even fought before. Because Mick was stuck in the midcard when Hogan took over, until he and Austin were let go.
Guest The Real Nosferatu Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 by the time Hogan got there Foley was practically gone. He was already working ECW shows like a month into Hogans tenure in WCW.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Bravo for Mick on Hogan insulting him. Being a Hogan fan, even I think that was uncalled for. I was thinking about this oddly earlier that Hogan/Foley never had a program or possibly never even fought before. He was *fat* but that doesn't mean he was outof shape. He never seemed to be dying out there
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Check my sig for what Foley said would happen if they ever wrestled. He explained that guys like the Rock and Austin would say he was deceptively in shape during his strong WWE years.

Guest Random Hero Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 I couldn't give a shit if a wrestler is in shape or not. Mick entertained me a damn sight more than the current crop of 'ripped' nobodies.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Bravo for Mick on Hogan insulting him. Being a Hogan fan, even I think that was uncalled for. He never seemed to be dying out there Compare that to Mr. Gass, who is built but is notorious for his lack of stamina in the ring. It's not all about appearance. Mick entertained me a damn sight more than the current crop of 'ripped' nobodies. They all look the same, don't they...
Guest The Real Nosferatu Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 For a guy out of shape, Foley really carried his fat ass to several long and pretty good matches before his retirement. RR 00: v. HHH = ****+ NWO: v. HHH in HIAC = ****+ WM XVI: v. HHH/Show/Rock = ***1/2 All of them had him in the ring from 20-30 minutes.
Guest The Rising Star Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 (edited) The WMXVI match sucked. What the hell was special with that match, other than that it was Foley's last maych? Chester McCheesington was more entertaining than the "McMahon's in every corner" match. Edited September 21, 2003 by The Rising Star
