AFC

North: Pittsburgh

East:New England (bye)

South:Tennessee (bye, I don't like this team but they will go 5-1 in their weak division meaning they only have to be decent in the non-division games to get a bye)

West:Oakland

Wild Cards : Buffalo, Indy

I wanted to pick Miami for a wild card, but until they overcome their December problems they aren't going anwhere.

NFC

North: Minnesota (not because of them, but because of GB declining)

NOTE: I'm assuming that they ENCOURAGE divisional match-ups in the playoffs. I have a funny feeling that I'm wrong on this

AFC - Making the playoffs:

AFC East - New England

AFC North - Pittsburgh

AFC South - Tennessee (bye)

AFC West - Oakland (bye)

Wildcard #1 - Miami

Wildcard #2 - Indianapolis

Out in the cold:

Cleveland - They won't do better than 9-7.

Buffalo - average defense + "Price-less" offense = failure to keep up with AFC East rivals)

Kansas City - GET A DEFENSE!

NFC - Making the playoffs:

NFC East - Philadelphia (bye)

NFC North - Green Bay

NFC South - Tampa Bay (bye)

NFC West - St. Louis

Wildcard #1 - N.Y. Giants

Wildcard #2 - San Francisco

Out in the cold:

New Orleans - their division is like the heel roster on the RAW brand - no chance for upward movement.

Seattle - I mean, seriously, people are giving them division championship hopes? They'll be the Phillies of the NFC West for the 2003 season.

Playoffs

AFC:

Pittsburgh over Indianapolis

New England over Miami

Tennessee over Pittsburgh

New England over Oakland

Tennessee over New England

NFC:

St. Louis over San Francisco

N.Y. Giants over Green Bay

Philadelphia over N.Y. Giants

Tampa Bay over St.Louis

Tampa Bay over Philadelphia (I hate repeat match-ups.)

Superbowl

Tampa Bay over Tennessee

Hmm, Tampa Bay and Tennessee seem like popular picks.

A shame I don't think either makes it to the Super Bowl, though. I'll go with the Steelers and the Rams as my two games to get to the big dance, with the Steelers then playing the role of the 2001 Patriots.

I love you in a totally non-romantic way, Tom.

A shame I don't think either makes it to the Super Bowl, though. I'll go with the Steelers and the Rams as my two games to get to the big dance, with the Steelers then playing the role of the 2001 Patriots.

The Rams were bad last year before they got injured. Teams simply figured them out, and Mike Martz is too stupid to compensate. They will do better then last year, but once they get to play the likes of Philly or Tampa (and others) in the playoffs, they will really struggle. In the AFC, I don't think they would stand a chance, but the NFC has a few great teams and a bunch of lousy teams. The Rams will have trouble beating any of the NFC playoff-calibre teams with the exception of Green Bay, and that's only when the Rams are at home.

The Steelers have the opposite problem. They can't stop the pass and if they run into a team like Oakland or Buffalo, they will get crushed. They have a chance if they have luck on their side (they match up much better against teams like Miami or KC), so I wouldn't count them out yet. I was actually thinking about picking Baltimore to win the North, but Boller scared me away.

Baltimore also has big-time pass defense problems.

The difference is that Pittsburgh can actually out-score people with their high-ocatane offense. Dare I say... they're approaching the level of the '99 Rams with Plax, Hines, and ARE. There are quite a few similarities there, and Amoz resembles Faulk in many ways as well (not quite as fast, but he has breakaway speed and can catch the ball out of the backfield). People are counting them out early, and they'll likely start out 1-3 (until Porter comes back, although I believe they'll beat Baltimore this week based on the emotion of having Porter on the sidelines), but I think they'll crawl back into it and surprise quite a few teams in the playoffs.
