Guest HopeSpot Report post Posted April 3, 2002 I've got some free time so I'll comment on some of the movies I watched recently, like in the last two weeks: Scary Movie 2: The Wayans bothers exercise in stupidity, not funny at all, the worst movie I've seen this year, if you see it shield you eyes, you will be dumber for having watched it. Bully: Larry Clarke completely scores with this cinematic master piece. Brutal, unforgiving, and completley in your face. You have to see this movie, but be warned it's brutally violent. If you're sick of all these unrealistic pretty teen movies that glamorize adolecense and high school pick this up. You'll feal better for having done so. Princess Mononke: One of the few anime I've seen, I was completely blown away. Edges out Bully as my favariote movie I've seen this year. The Last Castle: Piece of shit, the less said the better. Feel free to post your rants about the movies you've seen recently.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted April 4, 2002 Haven't seen Bully, but I agree with you on the others. Last night I watched Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and THIS is a by-gawd anime classic. It's from the director of Ninja Scroll and Wicked City, and is right up there with Mononoke, Akira, etc. as one of the best the genre has to offer. The animation rivals Disney's features in expensive quality, the fight scenes are very well done, the plot keeps surprising me with new twists & turns, the characters are pretty deep by anime standards, and it has one of those endings that makes you want to stand up & cheer. Highest recommendation.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted April 4, 2002 In the past couple days I've seen Horrorvision (pretty good Full Moon flick that unfortunately suffered from too high ambitions, review forthcoming), Sexy Beast (you can read my review in the topic "An Exercise in Poor Taste: Sexy Beast", but I enjoyed it a lot, you can find out why there ), Va Savoir (who knows?) (French film that was rather long, hard to follow, and not very interesting until the last 40 minutes or so), and... I think that's it? I also rented Training Day and The One, which I haven't seen yet.
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted April 4, 2002 i also saw SM2. No comment on how bad it is because it has already been said. strong recomendation to avoid at all costs. I also saw turbulence the other day. This is an awesome awesome suspense flick filled with action. strong recommendation on that one. i also saw Jeepers Creepers special edition. not great on extras but the movie is very very good with an awful ending. But if youve seen the movie, then you know the storyline doesnt really leave alot of options to the end. Definitely Recommended though b/c of the action and good storyline involved in the movie.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted April 4, 2002 The last movie I saw was Air Force One, but you all probably saw it already anyway. The movie was very good, but maybe I'm partial since I like Harrison Ford. When it comes to who lives/dies, it's pretty predictable who will "make it". The DVD comes with a cool commentary track which I plan on watching later this week.
Guest Maurizio C... Version 2 Report post Posted April 4, 2002 I'm somewhat of an old movie buff, so I bought these films these past weeks: blade runner - the director's cut: good concept. I always like the concept of a depressive robotic future when human beings are somewhat relegated to follow *the machine*'s orders. platoon: charlie sheen?! boring shit with the same actors Stone always pick up for his movie. Raging Bull: DeNiro in his second best performance ever!
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted April 4, 2002 It's a little older, but I checked out Heathers, the dark satire on high school stuff with Winona Ryder and Jack Nich- er, Christian Slater. It had some pretty funny parts and the satire element was nice, but somehow...I was expecting a little more.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted April 4, 2002 Just watched Shadow Of The Vampire, and was not at all impressed. Malkovich and the director seemed to think that it was a serious movie, while Dafoe and the rest of the cast were covinced that it was a broad comedy. Didn't have a scary moment in the entire movie, and the funny moments were too few and far between. The much-touted makeup job on the nosferatu was no better than average. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted April 4, 2002 Raging Bull: DeNiro in his second best performance ever! Maurizio, if Raging Bull is DeNiro's second best performance, than what do you think is his best? I'm not trying to dispute you or anything, since I haven't seen every DeNiro film, but DeNiro's performance was the best thing about Raging Bull, and I'd be hard-pressed to find a better performance from him (or many other actors) in my memory banks.
