Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 3, 2002 just curious how many people watch wresting on local channels? I watch NWA on Urban American Television, on a local channel with a bad reception. CMLL & AAA on Galavision
Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted April 4, 2002 I watch CMLL and AAA on Galavision sometimes as it comes on at 4:00 here which isn't a good time for me. I also get America1 on a small local station here so I get to watch USA pro wrestling and Wildside. I do miss the days about 5 or 6 years ago when America1 had ECW in it's prime as well as the USWA which was decent.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted April 4, 2002 The only non-WWF programming that we get here in Nashville is USA Wrestling, on the local WB station.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted April 5, 2002 I live in Canada so only AWA Classic wrestling comes on up here but that blows so I never watch it. I do watch a lot of ECW and WWF PPV's and tapes though.
Guest SpaceFlyingTigerDrop Report post Posted April 5, 2002 I just found out they're playing NWA Wildside, USA Pro Wrestling, and Memphis Professional Wrestling on a local channel here in Milwaukee. Of course, it's at midnight and 1:00AM, so I'll be taping them. Besides that, I just watch the tapes I own.
Guest Eric the Eagle Report post Posted April 6, 2002 I hate you all, you know that? Down here in Norway, the only way we get to watch wrestling at *all* is through the (few, very few) video stores which sell the commercial tapes... Unless we have some sort of illegal English connections who can smuggel in a card that would let us watch SKY (but that's WWF, so I guess that don't count...) Ten or so years ago, they'd send English or Japanese (varied a bit) wrestling on Eurosport. Don't know which feds. The English had Giant Haystacks, and the Japs were really, really fond of showing Equalizer matches. Joy. So to all you who whine about shitty Raws: Shut up and think of those less fortunate than you. Last time we had wrestling on Norwegian TV was the friggin' Disneyland Tapings! Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 6, 2002 Disney tapings? was that hosted by Dusty Rhodes and Larry Zybrisco?
Guest Eric the Eagle Report post Posted April 8, 2002 I don't know, actually. It was shown on a joint Scandinavian (Norway, Sweden and Denmark) channel and had their own hosts. The fun thing was that those two guys were on-air smarks, always talking about who had backstage connection and who was booked to win. Looking back at some of the old tapes it's SO FUCKING WEIRD hearing commentators on a wrestling show going off on a total, curse-laden rant because they have to watch Kevin Sullivan... Guest areacode212 Report post Posted April 8, 2002 WTF? The commentators were smarks who would break kayfabe and swear whenever Kevin Sullivan came on? Holy crap! That's like my dream job. Anyway, I'm assuming that the Disney tapings were the mid-90s episodes of WCW Worldwide where they'd tape like 3 months worth of TV all at once, so if spoilers leaked out, we would find out about title switches that weren't supposed to happen for several weeks. Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted April 8, 2002 I can't find any non-WWF wrestling on a San Antonio show. Do any lucha fans know of AAA or EMLL svhedules? When Shawn Micheals ran his school here in San Antonio, I went to a few of his shows. That was pretty cool until he stopped running it. A student of his took it over but I haven't checked it out. I also order a shitload of Japanese tapes from the dealers to get my fix in bad times such as these.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 8, 2002 Good Helmet your in San Antonio? I get all of the SA channels and your telling that you don't have Galavision? I am sure that there has to be a local fed running there somewhere. Austin is just an hour north and Tully Blandshard had a fed their a few years ago. Rudy Boy Gonzales runs the TWA which changed its name to Extreme Texas Wrestling or something like that, I think. Goodhelmet if you ever goto mexico, give a email I can show around Boystown!!!! Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted April 8, 2002 ok, i have galavision but every time i flip past, it's a Mexican Jerry Springer like talk show or a Spanish soap opera. What time does the wrestling come on?

Ah, the good old swedish announce team, I really miss them, it almost somehow made watching horrible crap bearable because they would bitch the hell out of it. It was so refreshing to hear announcers cheer for who they thought were the better in ring performer and bash the hell out of whomever they thought was crap in the ring, no matter how hard they were pushed (Kevin and Evad Sullivan, Brutus Beefcake, Yokozuna when they showed the WWF earlier etc...). Ah, the good old days...
Guest ArkhamGlobe Report post Posted April 8, 2002 Actually, if Eric the Eagle and I are talking about the same programming, then this would have been from aroung right before Spring Stampede 1994 to shortly after SuperBrawl in 1996. It was mainly just a bunch of jobber matches with the occasional "star vs star" matches thrown in, though the PPVs were broadcast on a pay-channel, which I got for free, so atleast I got free PPVs . WTF? The commentators were smarks who would break kayfabe and swear whenever Kevin Sullivan came on? Holy crap! That's like my dream job. They wouldn't just swear, they (well, one in particular) would go on a huge rant about why Kevin Sullivan was the worst wrestler in existance and how watching his matches should be considered torture (or something like that, it's been about 5-6 years). And there wasn't any real breaking of kayfabe since they were never in kayfabe to begin with, the first thing they did on the first broadcast, which was 1993 WWF (one of the highlights of that year was them trashing the quadruple Doink match at the Survivor Series), was to explain how a basic wrestling match works and the concept of faces and heels, which was great, because in a lot of cases, it taught the fans in Sweden to appreciate the actual work in the ring, and not larger-than-life gimmicks and stupid catchphrases and such. Guest Eric the Eagle Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Yep - the exact same shows. Dahlgren actually put himself in the Heenan/Ventura category of quoatable commentators. A shame so little can be translated without losing it's sting. That was the only good thing about that Doink Survivor match too - they're commentating. "Bruno, Bruno, Bruno... Do something! DO something!!!"
Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 13, 2002 GOODHELMET use the liquid swartz!!!!! Galavision 6pm to 9pm on Tuesday nights Telemundo has LLL on Saturday at 4 or 5 pm errr maybe Extreme Texas Wrestling is the promotion/school run by Rudy Boy Gonzales

Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted April 13, 2002 Thanks Razazteca. Now, I have another alternative to the WWF. Viva la lucha libre!!!!!

Guest J*ingus Report post Posted April 14, 2002 I wish I could get lucha on my cable, but instead of Galavision or Telemundo our cable company carries some worthless wrestlingless station called Universo or something similar. We don't get America One either, so even though I know some of the NWA Wildside wrestlers, I don't get to see their TV show.
Guest Report post Posted April 14, 2002 Well On some spanish channel XEWT. They show CMLL lucha libre. But is it me or does it just suck?? I mean all the guys on that particular show are potbelly old guys. An the matches man I can see what their gonna do way before they do it. Their are younger guys on the show but their wrestling them old dudes which doesn't look to great. I refer to that show as Crappy Mexican Lucha Libre. No offense to anyone that likes that show though. I do watch it sometimes just to get familar with with all the lucha wrestlers. As for AAA I seen it on Galavision before but it just seemed to disappear. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong day for it. But last time I saw it La Parka was their. Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 14, 2002 I mean all the guys on that particular show are potbelly old guys. An the matches man I can see what their gonna do way before they do it. I can understand your perception but if you are patiant and wait for the title matches that feature Shocker or Dr Wanger Jr or Tarzan Boy, who are the younger "talented" stars that CMLL feature as of late. LLL or AAA younger stars are the Los Vipers, Hector Garza, Heavy Metal, Latin Lover. The fat guys like Super Porky are comedians with no or little ring talent but get their push anyway. Every fed has jobbers and people like Super Porky, and yes you did see La Parka. AAA in my opinion is a weaker promotion as compared to CMLL in the last few weeks but LLL seem to make a good impression on Telemundo. Lucha Libre brand extention!!!!! Last week Semicompeto Campion title match of Shocker (champ) vs Dr Wanger was a match that feature psycology and was influenced by japanese standards. One pin involved Wanger drop kicking the leg then getting the submission with the figure 4. Also Shocker sold the "injury" the whole 30 minutes of the match. The thing with the spots being practiced is nothing unusual, everybody knows if a Luchadore tries for the reversal victory roll move it will be reversed into a facefirst slam. Or the armdrag sequence is a normal thing in Lucha Libre, but sometimes psycology is involved and the moveset is changed for the better. The WWF hasnt changed any of the move sets for the wrestlers in forever. You know the Hardy boys will do their poetry in motion, XPac will do the bronco buster, S2H will do the worm, Jericho will do the bulldog into the lionsault, etc etc etc. XEW is a great network gotta love the morning show Hoy and the novelas.
