My prediction:

No Mercy after a ref bump and interference from Conker.

//Swerve~!

I've heard all these third-hand stories and underground rumors about the greatness that is Fire Pro D, but have never actually seen it or played it.

And did I hear right that it's a 2-D wrestling game, in this day & age?  Wha(dafuk)supwithdat?

I've played both, I own No Mercy and have played Fire Pro many times at other people's houses.  I think that No Mercy is the better game, although I can see where the Fire Pro arguement comes in.  It is a 2D game which is strange to see after looking at screen shots from games like Raw for X Box or any other game that has come out in the past 5 years.  They both have very good grapple schemes, with No Mercy being a little easier to adjust to.  Giant Gram is looking great, but it may just be the initial one week where I play the game non-stop before the fun runs out.  I guess I'll see in the next few days.

Played any Fire Pro game?  If not get yourself a fucking snes emulator, and Super Fire Pro X rom asap buddy!

And yes, it's 2-D....and proves that gameplay is the most important aspect of a game.  While the graphics themselves aren't great(although good for 2-D), the animation that went into this game is just amazing.

Dude it'll last you so long...with so many different combos etc to do...and all the double-team moves...plus historic mode.  The only problem is that the matches aren't that long....btw the aim of the game isn't really to just win, it's to put on a great show for the fans...an aspect I wish every game would do.

Well, I love playing No Mercy, but I love watching the computer simulate matches in Fire Pro.

actual play wins over watching simulations

You can also get a Game Boy Advance emulator (Visual Boy Advance is a good one), and grab a copy of the Fire Pro Wrestling Advance ROM, the most recent Fire Pro game. You can't download new moves/wrestlers like you can with the Dreamcast version, but there are many CAW templates out there.

Well, an emulator would be great, except:

1. I don't know if they'd work on a Mac, and

2. It's not even my Mac, it's my parents' Mac, and they are paranoids about viruses and have a strict "no downloads" rule.

Hey, as far as FirePro's 2-D graphics go, here's something else to consider.

You could have the ability to watch your wrestler's entrance in detail so intricate you can see YOUR HAIR MOVE and watch the sweat drip off your forehead, OR...

You could have each and every single move you've ever heard of, plus 2 tons more that you've never heard of along with  3 different variations of each.

Seriously, Firepro tends to pack in a TON of moves from what I've seen, and they all look pretty damn good.

Plus there's the advantage of having virtually anyone currently wrestling in the game itself. Sure, he may be listed as The Undead Taylor, but we all know who he really is. ;)

Well, you could try running a Windows emulator, then running a Windows GBA emulator under that. It will probably fail miserably, but it might be fun to try.

Hey AreaCode, where would one download the Fire Pro A rom? I can't track it down.

Metal Maniac:

This site has a link to the Japanese version (0015):

http://member.netease.com/~automan-emu/emu.../newgba/gba.htm

and this page (on the same site) has the link to the US version (0042):

http://member.netease.com/~automan-emu/emu...newgba/gba3.htm

Get both of them if you can. The Japanese version is the one that has the correctly-colored American wrestlers. The USA version gives the US wrestlers weird pallette-swaps (like giving Austin white tights), but it'll help you to learn the game, since the menus are in English.

And if that site goes down, I'm sure you'll be able to find another GBA rom site...just do a Google search for roms "Fire Pro Wrestling A (J)", and you'll be able to track it down. If not, you can try a file-sharing program.

Innovator: play it more often, so that you get the timing down and thus be able to do more moves. I marked out so hard the first time I did Benoit's triple germans and Manami Toyota's rolling cradle (King's Tekken move). Hopefully you'll enjoy it more. You may want to go to Gamefaqs and read some of the faqs there.

I know I shoulda asked this before, BUT...

What about an emulator? I had one downloaded, and that didn't work, so I tried Cowbite or something, and that also didn't work. HELP!

Get Boycott Advance for Mac. Not sure of the site, just type it into Google.  Can't help you out with the parents though.

Fire Pro D... Even with it's steep learning curve... Although I prefer Fire Pro Adavance. Don't ask me why.

The main thing I've noticed that FPA has over FPD is that the different costumes for each wrestler are cooler. When you pick Sting in FPD, you have 4 different variations of the same "Crow" outfit. But in Fire Pro A, you can pick his short-haired 80s persona as well. Same with Scott Steiner, Benoit, etc.. Yeah, it's minor, but still..

Fire Pro A is the greatest handheld game ever. Fire Pro D has a higher learning curve, but you can have Ohtani vs Benoit every day on it! Also, it has less cheap reversals then No mercy

I downloaded firepro A and have been playing it for the past few days....it's *fun*, but I think it's pretty obvious that a game on the PS2 that uses the No Mercy engine, coupled with a few of the FP options (move naming, variety of moves) would be the greatest thing ever.
