Guest OSIcon Report post Posted September 17, 2003 How do people know TNA is NOT making money...? 1.) More then 50 percent of their fans are comped. They aren't making money from arena tickets. 2.) Their initial estimate was they needed 50,000 buys a week to break even. They didn't come close. They scaled back so that 20,000 buys were a more reasonable number to break even at. They didn't break even there. The "scaling back" didn't last long as they now bring in a lot of wrestlers who don't come ultra cheap and just a lot of wrestlers/talent period each week. So I would think the break even point would even be a little higher now, but either way, its said that they are not getting that 20,000 mark at all (except for Raven vs. Jarrett and the Anniversary show). Meltzer had a really good run down of TNA's business history in an issue this summer (either late July or early August). They don't have any other real sources of income at this point. If you just look at it, its fairly obvious that TNA is spending a decent amount of money but the buyrates (and certainly the attendance figures) aren't nearly high enough to cover those expenses. Guest MikeSC Report post Posted September 17, 2003 TNA's trying to be the bully with ROH like WWE was with ECW and everyone shat on WWE but they're praising TNA. I actually am rooting for ROH and I haven't seen a damn thing of theirs. It's just that so far Jarrett has put himself over as priority number 1, they're trying to get everyone on lockdown, and they aren't a hot commodity on PPV nor are they even on TV. Add to that that you have to pay $10 to see WWE Lite every week when you can see WWE for free twice a week and you have a situation where TNA thinks it's bigger than it really is. Um, to be technical, WWF BANKROLLED ECW for a long, long time -- well judging by the papers filed in the whole bankruptcy case. So let's lay off the WWF's "bad" treatment of ECW as ECW would have died years before they did without the WWF's involvement. TNA is doing the smart thing and avoiding the biggest pitfall ECW had --- expanding FAR faster than you are capable of handling. Will they survive? God knows. I don' t know how they've done it thus far. -=Mike
Guest Markingout Report post Posted September 17, 2003 "TNA is doing the smart thing and avoiding the biggest pitfall ECW had --- expanding FAR faster than you are capable of handling." Hmmm, they are expanding to fast. No TV deal but written contracts. Not a huge fanbase, but they are in talks to get one. They spend alot of money on these big name guys and they dont bring in alot of money.

Go TNA! -=Mike --- the .01 PPV was well worth the money --- take that as you wish
